Caveman Cooking 70 lb Wild Canadian Beaver! (Start-to-Finish - ASMR)
Ойын-сауық
I prepare the wild beaver meat like a caveman by roasting it on the coals on an open fire.
The meat is deep red, and very rich. It has no odor, and isn't very gamey when prepared with care to remove the scent glands. The castor gland is also saved and can be sold. It is often used as a natural scent in food products used world-wide.
Wild Beavers are very territorial and will investigate any foreign smell. Beaver castor lure is made from beavers from another area. This incites a territorial response, and the beaver will come looking for the foreign invader. I set up a trap in a likely swim path between the beaver lodge or beaver house to intercept the curious beaver. The 330 beaver trap is very much like a large mouse trap. When the animal trips the mechanism, it releases the power behind two very large springs which force the linked bars shut compressing the animal ideally in the chest and neck. This ensures and immediate and ethical harvest.
I use the beaver for both fur and food. The meat is very good, on par with other wild game meats such as venison from deer. Beaver was very commonly consumed for meats by fur harvesters and trappers historically as the meat is quite good. The tail was considered a delicacy due to it's high fat content which is rare in wild animals.
The fur of the beaver will be skinned open, and then pinned to a board to dry after it is scrapped clean of fat and any meat. After it is dried, it will be sent to the fur auction or sold privately. Beaver fur is quite soft, and is used in various applications including hats.
Trapping beaver is a large part of the history of Canada, and the fur trade runs deep. Today, trapping beavers is necessary to reduce habitat destruction. Beavers can kill a lot of trees and even flood out roads. As with all wild things, they must be managed carefully to maintain a good balance.
I will show you how to trap beaver, how to set a 330 conibear, how to cook beaver, a really good beaver recipe, how to find a good place to trap beaver, beaver trap caught on camera, beaver trapping with conibears, beaver trapping trail cameras, beaver trapping 2021, beaver trapping live action.

Not many men can handle a big beaver, let alone a 70lb Canadian beaver! Always a good watch.

Always better to digest it the second go around! That was a crafty beaver to begin with, smarter than usual, until you used the beaver scent...lol 😂😅 Hope all is well Chris, stay strong. Love what you're doing 😊

I would like if you do a 7 days survival series without any gears. No guns, traps, tents etc. just a knife. I think you’ve accumulated all the necessary skills over the years I’ve been watching your channel.
6 1/2 minutes in is money! Def no turnin' back after that! Happy you are ok!
Still never had beaver, closest I've had was muskrat hind ends. One of these days I'd love have a couple beers over some squirrel, lol. If you ever drift to the Ottawa Valley give me a shout. I know a few cool spots outside of Algonquin Park.
its quite rare to see a wet hairy beaver of that magnitude!
💪Peeps should pay you to take them out there with you!
I keep hoping that the day will come when we get to see a new 30 day survival challenge!! 🤞
Cute little cabin

Hey chris I know you've been having your own battles, hope you're doing better. I remember you said you got your trapping license a while back. Maybe a new idea would be how to make clothing from animal hides in the winter? Just some food for thought, I think it would go well with your channel
That’s a big beaver 🦫
So when you cook it directly on the coals, it seems like it gets ashes on the skin, which you then have to cut off. Doesn't this cut off the seasoning as well? I'd be interested to know the benefit of cooking directly on the coals verses just having a little grill above the coals.
@TheWoodedBeardsman

Yes, a little bit. Ideally keep it out of the ashes, and cook just on the coals. Then you can just knock the coals off. It works well that way. I did add more spices just before eating!

I still watched it but ASMR is not my cup of tea. We're missing out on one of the main things that makes your channel so popular -- your very entertaining & informative musings, thoughts, plans, etc.
Looking forward to you preserving the hide! GREAT video as always!
In your opinion, what's the best part of the beaver?
what do u do with the beaver fur? does it tasted like chicken?
😮👍
Nice video! Cool to see the trapping process.
Just as good the second time around. Thanks Chris praying all is well for you and yours.
Normally I like my Canadian beavers to be in the 110lb range
Beaver is such a fine pelt. Too bad the market for them has gotten so bad although I understand this year is not so bad for a large good quality pelt. I have never eaten beaver or nutria but understand it is very good. Now, that snapping turtle is some fine tablefare too and goes for big bucks....$40.00 lb. and up. The shell and skull sell for big dollars as well. Skulls go for $200 and up.
Wish you would have shown the dressing, skinning, and butchering portion.
Do you speak French? I know it's normally people from Qubec but I heard you say something about going to a French school?
70lb Beaver would be half Your body weight. You seemed to toss it around pretty easy. Maybe 35lb soaking wet beaver?
I've always been a fan of beaver, especially some nice canadian

Does it taste like beef or crane?
@TheWoodedBeardsman

Crane...never had that. It's like beef more than anything.
I asked a trapper if you could eat beaver meat. He said yes but the meat tastes like the wood the beavers eat lol. He had just caught three. The largest was at least the size of the one in this video. All three of them weighed less than 100 pounds. No way that one weighed 70

I quite like beaver I usually do them like a pot roast or on the smoker
Just wondering, throwing those spices on and then putting it on the coal, doesn't that just defeat the purpose of putting the spices on?
