I went up to Cass WV to take part in some of the 50th Anniversary celebrations of the Cass Scenic Railroad which started in 1963.
Saturdays trains including Shay #5, Shay 11 & Western Maryland Shay 6.
Shay 5 is a 1905 class C-80 Shay built for the WV Pulp & Paper Co, later the Mower Lumber Co has been going up and down the line of the Cass Scenic since 1905.
Western Maryland Shay 6 is a class C-150 built in 1945 by Lima locomotives work. She is the last shay built, and the largest preserved.
Also on hand on the photo freight train was Shay 11 a class C-90 shay built for the Hutchinson Lumber Company, as their number three in 1923. Shay 11 is an example of a typical west coast type shay.
So with that sit back, turn up the volume and watch as we head up to West Virginia's third highest peak, and enjoy many photo run by's of great antique steam action.
