    No no he killed 11. It was said that after killing off the most he went off INTO THE FOREST AND HUNTED DOWN THE REST of the coyote flocks for 2 whole days!! Then he came back badly injured as he was. Imagine that, what a great hero, sustaining life threatening injuries but still holding on and continuing the mission to protect his family and sheep herd NO MATTER WHAT

    The Great Pyrenees has a very strong bite force. These dogs have an average bite force of around 500 pounds per square inch (PSI)! That’s actually a stronger bite than Rottweilers and Pitbulls! This varies between individuals, but still makes these dogs some of the strongest biters around.

    This is why you should always have LGD’s in pairs. I’ve always had pairs in the 30 years I’ve had these dogs. They have each others backs. I’m glad he is going to be ok. They are fierce warriors when protecting whatever animals they are given to guard. Those vets are angels to donate their services! That’s rare these days!! NOTE: My comment was not a derogatory one towards the owner. It was in support of the fact he had two dogs with his herd. I didn’t “miss” anything and I watched the video in its entirety before I commented.

Lol AND I never made an assumption about the owners. I made a general statement. Instead of a troll you should have been a mind reader since you seem to be able to ASSume to know what people meant or are thinking without knowing for sure.

    When I watched a news report on this incident, they said that it's rare for coyotes to hunt in such a large pack -- that although they live in families, they usually are solitary hunters or pair up with just one other coyote to hunt. Don't know if that's true, but if so then this was an unusual case where Casper had to take on so many adversaries. I'm just grateful he survived his ordeal, the poor guy!

    I disagree coyotes being more afraid of us than we are of them. I'm in California the coyotes in our area have been getting bigger in size, running in larger packs & they've been getting far more brazen attacking people & pets. I've got 3 big dogs (2 90lb females & 1 160lb male) the coyotes have gone after our dogs several times & coyotes are killed either by our dogs or by my rifle but they keep coming back.

    Yes, I grew up with them, they come into the neighborhood and walk down the street,but they ran away if you’d make loud noise. I have never been afraid of them, but it seems that nowadays maybe we need to be wary of them.

  • @dp2677

    @dp2677

    Жыл бұрын

    @@melrezlittleranch They use to stay clear of us around here too but over last 6-8yrs something has changed their behavior. Part of problem is loss of habitat. Never in a million years would I have thought they'd go after our 3 big dogs especially with humans present. Heck most humans cross the street when they spot my Corso, apparently since he's 160lbs he "looks scary", at least to the people who don't know him. Coyotes have even been hopping fences & going in houses through doggy doors killing pets too which is very disturbing. From what Rangers said there's also been issues with homeless encampments along our rivers, the homeless people's female dogs breeding with male coyotes resulting in dog sized coyote mixes w/ limited fear or avoidance of humans. Female coyotes only go into heat in spring, so the males are out & about with a wandering eye the rest of the year. It's wierd for sure! Stay vigilante & watch your kids & pets to keep them safe.

    To dogs like Casper (Great Pyrenees) the flocks they protect are viewed as their families. Those dogs are great pets, but they watch over their territory and flocks the same way mother bears protect their cubs. Most of the Pyrenees dogs I’ve know live outside year round with the animals they watch out for. When Casper went home, I’m almost certain the first thing he did was check on the heard. They literally are always on the clock.

    I know he was just doing his job, but that dog went through a horrific experience. He is lucky to be alive after an encounter with that many coyotes. The fact that he killed 8 of them is amazing. From his injuries, it looks like they were all over him at some point. A spiked collar for Casper and one for his female companion might be a good investment. They will probably have more encounters with coyotes in the future. At least having survived this experience, Casper has a good idea what to expect. I would imagine he will be even more hostile to them and understandably so.

    My thoughts exactly! It was like he let Casper die out there, fighting off those coyotes! But Casper didn't, which was a miracle in itself. Thirty minutes of fighting, he said. Did he just watch the whole thing doing nothing?! My golly. And I know he has other dogs other than Casper. Why was Casper left alone on the frontlines defending everyone? Poor Casper!

    Casper, for sure, is the hero and his owner is the one who did nothing. He let Casper fight with all those coyotes alone in the battle field for 30 minutes or so! Did he not have a gun or some sort of weapon? And why didn't he let his other dogs help Casper during the fierce fighting? He did not even look for Casper when he went missing for two days. He just thought that Casper was already dead. He just did an FB post, bah! If I were in his shoes, I would be restless and hbe up and about looking for Casper up until I see him, dead or alive! Anyway, I am just glad that Casper is alive. Hope something like this will not happen again.

    For people who think you can "retire" a dog, it doesn't work like that. A dog will never stop doing its job unless it no longer has access to it, or is too old to do it. Look at *retired* K9 units. Break into their house and see what happens. If you *retire* this dog, but a sheep makes a noise of distress, he's going into work mode

    This man needs to wake up and smell the coffee!!!! Casper already did his job. Retire him by letting him just be with the sheep's. Do not let him be there to fight with coyotes again. Just let him enjoy life or let someone else care for him. After all, it took two days for Casper to find the energy get back up to find YOU. YOU did NOT find him. Casper is loyal, He deserves a whole lot more than a job and a bowl of food!! He needs a whole lot more and he deserves it all!!
