That coyote did NOT know what to think about being picked up by the tail, they're still capable of curling around and biting you if you grab them like that, I think it was just purely shocked. Good on him for protecting his dog! Keep an eye on your cats and small dogs!

The coyote lost it’s life for simply doing what coyotes do which is eat smaller animals. Animal Control killed that coyote. They do not relocate!

I love every piece of this story. Little Roxy not backing down, thinking she can take on the coyote. He being there and present. Thank goodness he didn't just let her out into the yard. He being alert and seeing the danger. Staying calm enough in the moment, so he can handle the coyote appropriately. The dumpster being at the right place at the right time! And finally his ingenuity to put metal studs on a jacket to deter other animals. Bless the both of them!!

That man truly shows such courage,compassion and love for disadvantaged animals. The way he picked up the coyote by the tail and gently placed the homeless creature into his new home and averted the vicious attack from that mean chihuahua just melts my heart.

The fact that the coyote became completely docile when he picked him up by the tale did it for me. Smart thinking and controlled the situation.

It was still biting at him but there's not much it can do in that situation. I think being held by the tail would be extremely painful and flailing around would likely increase that pain immensely. It's like your spine extended past your butt and then someone suspended you by that "tail". That coyote went from predator to prey in a second. That's probably a shock to the system as well.

My lil dude Cody was also fearless, which is utterly terrifying..... Although not a Chihuahua, he had that same lack of self preservation thing going, he really thought he was 80 pounds when he was 8 pounds lol.... It finally unfortunately caught up to him one night 2 years ago now.... I miss him terribly... He was my heart and soul dog....

That dog lives in complete trust.

Not only did this guy sustain bites from this coyote trying to save his family member, but he put it in the garbage dumpster and called animal control to have it removed. Then he bought a spiked suit to protect the little one in the future. Most of the time little dogs have no fear and don't care they're out sized. Great story.

​@@davon6704you're exactly right. They more than likely put it down after the bite, so they can test for rabies. I would not be surprised if the coyote did have rabies, because of it being out in the day, and was not scared off by the human. From my perspective, the coyote was charging the man, and not going after the dog. It may have been going for the dog initially, but any normal coyote would be scared off or at the very least be more hesitant while going after the dog. We have two packs of coyotes down at the river, near the end of my property, that frequently hunt on our neighbors empty field for rodents. They get so spooked by any human, even when in a pack, they all take off running. The only time I've ever seen a coyote out in the day, alone. It was later put down by animal control, and suspected of rabies. It had distemper. But I remember coming out to it crossing the back of my property in the early morning. Thought maybe it was just out later and running behind it's pack, but it was apparently spotted later in the day wandering around neighboring properties, seemingly without purpose. So someone called it in. Very sad, but necessary.

That was my first thought as well. I mean this is a big dude. I am an animal lover, but defending my pet comes first. He absolutely could have killed that coyote just by dropping his bodyweight on it. And I would not have a damn thing to say about it when the potential victim is so very small. I think this is a rare case of one of those gentle giants. This guy could probably put a strangers crying baby to sleep in his arms, and then go lift a Ford F250 off of someone pinned under it. And then refuse an interview because “I’m not a hero I was just in the right place at the right time“. The world would be a safer place if we all had next-door neighbors like this dude.

@@bobharritech8460Probably put it down and tested for rabies because it’s not normal for a coyote to take on a full grown man rather than continue to pursue the small dog. Still, he chose not to kill an animal with his bare hands and let it be the professionals’ job to decide its fate.

What a brilliant example of critical thinking under pressure. Doesn’t try to fight the coyote, does not try to grab his dog and flee. Assesses, reacts, saves the dog and the coyote. Great job Sir! I take my little dog out every time and am often strangely dressed at night. I live in a Canadian forest so I use a leash at night.

Well, sometimes people aren't able too. Some dogs get attacked by large creatures and still people expect for their owners to hop in and save them as if they're superhuman or something. If this was a bear or a gator, I promise you, he would've kept his distance.

Depends, ONE coyote? Sure. A whole pack? Of course I wouldn't honestly own a dog that small to begin with. I grew up with shepherding dogs so any dog I had could more than hold it's own against a single coyote.

He's better off building a fence to contain and protect his dog, what is he thinking letting her run around like that? From experience, Chihuahua aggression goes unchecked by most owners so not only is the little ankle biter at risk of picking a fight with the wrong person/dog and ending up injured or worse but there's also a risk she bites someone. He needs to build a fence.

Wow I'm so glad you narrated what was happening, I wouldn't have otherwise known what was moving in the dumpster after he had put the coyote in.

that coyote has never been picked up by the tail before and it was just totally confused on what was happening to him.

@@Insert639Yes. Rabies tests require examining brain tissue. When the bite comes from a domestic animal people care about, the animal goes into quarantine for ten days to watch for symptoms. If it’s rabid enough to be contagious, it will likely be dead of rabies by that time.

This guy is a great pet parent! Not only did he save his Chihuahua from becoming a coyote's lunch, but he also got his Chihuahua a spiked harness to prevent future coyote attacks.

This dude is absolutely awesome. Not only did he capture a coyote with his bare hands, he throws it in a dumpster, and then gets his dog the most amazing harness ever.

It's really good to see how much he cares about his dog, you could hear the fear in his voice when he shouted her to come back

We had a rescued Chihuahua for almost 15 years . He thought he was an eighty pound Pitbull and I still love and miss him to this day . ❤ Great coat ! Glad the outcome was a good one .

For a few seconds the coyote understood what all the yard dogs meant when they bark about the magical touch of a human. Yote was chilled.
