Crystal clear was her voice, every note. She never had to scream to get a reaction, to express a feeling like so many singers need to do.

I have never heard this song .......... what a missed opportunity ! Maybe commercially viable is why which only goes to show what bean counters know about vocal art. Anything Karen Carpenter sings is a gift to the ears, a gift to the soul, and a gift to us all. Her voice is beyond commerciality and should be shared by all. Thanks for finding this gem.

Psyche, thank you for your sensitive and perceptive commentary about Karen Carpenter and the Carpenters. We shall never see their likes again. Although artistry is missing in today's music, at least the technology is highly advanced so that the Carpenter's musical brilliance will be forever preserved for us and future generations to marvel and appreciate.

She must have been so sick when they recorded this, yet her voice was as beautiful as ever, truly gifted and talented, such a profound loss and yet she gave us so much while she was here We love and miss you Karen, and hope you’re at peace now ❤

This was her last recording ever and its almost as if she knew she would be leaving us all. Its beautiful, ethereal and shows how karen could sing just like she was breathing. Don't ever think she knew just how special she was. Sleep well my angel, we will miss you always but you left us with many many moments of magic. Lovexxxxxx

Whew. It's just been in the last few years that I've been able to listen to this song. I've had the album "Voice Of The Heart" since it was first released after her passing in 1983. But had not been able to listen to this song. In April of 1982, Karen had come home from NYC temporarily from her treatment for the illness that would take her life to quickly record a couple of leads with this song being her very last recording. She flew back to NYC to complete her treatment even spending some time in the hospital near the end to get some weight back on her. After she was released from the hospital, she flew back to Los Angeles & was home by Thanksgiving, Nov 1982, spent Christmas with her family and friends that December, 1982, and was gone from this earth by February 4, 1983. This was the last recording she ever did, and it was only a work lead at that. After her passing Richard pulled it out and made this beautifully orchestrated rendition from her work lead. What lyrics for the beautiful Karen Anne Carpenter to sing for the very first, and last time. The song and lyrics still get to me after all these years. Thank you so much for reacting to this song. Your comments are beautiful.

HI pSYCHE, Karen Carpenter's voice is such a GIFT. When I was a little girl, I remember their song "Close To You" was one of the first songs I memorized to sing over and over. I felt so VERY SORRY for her brother when she passed away... anorexia is a strange confusing treacherous malady. I didn't know this was their last song.🙏💔

There is a very good TV movie about Karen that Richard helped to produce. Richard is evidently not a mean person, but the movie lays some blame for Karen's mental state on their mother.. Karen's death apparently really hit Richard.

This song was recorded in 1982, 10 months before we lost Karen. Karen's unique Contralto Voice lives on thanks to reactors like you so that new generations can appreciate the artistry of those who came before. Also a shout out to the band's flute and Saxophone 🎷 player, Mr Bob Messenger really gives this song a light airy vibe.

..and thank you DW for being so appreciative - that is very kind which is rare these days - along with 'great talent'! - most people just ask for "react to this that and the other" which I don't do because I do not get paid to do that - people get the content for free and I earn 'nothing' for doing it and giving all my time for free so - thank you so so much! And yes, I respect everything I see and hear. Have a wonderful festive time Psyche 🙋🏽‍♀️🌹 p.s. Hello Linda thanks for your message - much appreciated. Just letting you know that unfortunately I do not take requests as I already give a lot of my time for 'free' so you can watch for free and I earn no income doing this it all goes to the record companies. People subscribe to see and hear what I play which they like. A lot of channels charge or have Patreon which is fine as we all do a lot of work to bring this content, , but I don't want to do that as I want as many people to hear all different kinds of music. But people can show their appreciation by buying a virtual cup of coffee now and then as I produce a lot of content and I have my own playlist which is very full as I am sure you can imagine. 'Inclusivity' that's my goal. People appreciate that I play a broad spectrum of music which is humbling. p.s. one channel charges £50 per request - wow! Also here's the link to The Carpenters playlist. their figures are low but hopefully they will rise so I can keep playing them. Keep safe, happy and healthy. 🌹
