Cannon Ski Trail Guide - Taft Slalom, The Saddle, Baron's Run and Way Back

Спорт

First time and first run at Cannon Mountain. I was curious about the transition from the main mountain to Mittersill via The Saddle and how much hiking would be involved. With proper XC Skate Skis it would be skateable but it's a little too steep for skating with alpines.
UPDATE 2022: It's been a couple of years since I made this video and yesterday I went back to Cannon to recreate my steps. It seemed like The Saddle climbing up to Mittersill wasn't groomed as far up so I couldn't skate it quite so far. More hiking. But the biggest issue was the descent and available routes to base station. The narrow drop down from Mittersill was "moguled" and not smooth like you see in the video. In addition, Baron's Run, the only direct route back to base, was also moguled, and again not groomed as per the video. Unfortunately, you have already committed to the slope before you can see this so there's no way out beyond hiking back up and taking one of the other black runs. If you don't do Moguls, then I'd advise to stay away from Mittersill, although there is a way back to base from Dragon's Drop and then traversing through. I have to say I was a little disappointed with these changes.

Man, what a view @1:51. The only day I skied at cannon the upper mountain was in a cloud. I guess I skied tafts, upper Ravine, and skylight that day (according to the GPS watch) but I honestly had no idea what I was skiing with the poor visibility

Does this run only lead to Mittersill or can you ski Taft Slalom and stay on the main mountain?

Yeah, you can peel off to the right just before the run starts going uphill. That returns you directly to the main mountain base.

I’ve never seen the mountain in such beautiful conditions
