🔧 Built by Truckers, for Truckers 🔧
Founded by Chace Barber and Eric Little in 2016, Edison Motors is a testament to the trucking spirit. Beginning with a 1969 Kenworth Logging Truck named "Old Blue," they journeyed from Merritt, BC, hauling logs to the Yukon and drilling rigs in Alberta. Frustrated with newer trucks, they rebuilt classics from the frame up, expanding into power generation and off-grid solar systems in 2019. Their journey led to the creation of the Edison Truck, a robust electric truck tailored to logging and heavy vocational industries.
🔩 Upgrade Without Replacing: Edison Electrification Kit 🔩
Keep trucks on the road longer with the Edison Electrification kit. Upgrade your driveline to electric without replacing the entire truck. Ideal for vocational applications, this kit is a cost-effective solution. Unlike other electric trucks, Edison Motors offers customer choice. Choose between Rebuilding (utilizing existing cab and frame rails) or Remanufacturing (brand new frame and chassis).
🚚 Payload Efficiency: The Weight Balance 🚚
Edison Trucks match the weight of a normal diesel truck. With reduced motor weight and additional fuel balancing out battery weight, experience efficiency and increased payload capacity. The L series, though slightly heavier, remains comparable to a normal diesel truck.
🛠️ Keep Your Equipment with Rebuilt Trucks 🛠️
For vocational trucks, keep your equipment with a rebuilt truck. Edison's e-pto and control system integrate seamlessly. No need to replace your entire body when upgrading to an electric truck.
🔧 Bespoke Manufacturing: Handcrafted to Your Needs 🔧
The manufacturing process at Edison Motors is a testament to their commitment to customer satisfaction. Each Edison Truck undergoes a meticulous five-step process, from frame and rolling chassis preparation to final touches and rigorous testing. The focus is on building a truck that reflects the customer's requirements, embracing the philosophy of "Building The Truck Of The Future With The Quality Of The Past."
🔌 Electric or Diesel-Electric: Your Power, Your Choice 🔌
Edison Motors offers both fully electric and diesel-electric vocational trucks based on customer demands. The onboard generator ensures continuous operation in areas lacking charging infrastructure.
💡 Advantages of Electric: Power, Torque, Longevity 💡
Edison Trucks bring increased power, torque, reliability, and longevity. Inspired by electric freight trains, regenerative ability harnesses energy for efficient uphill climbs.
⚙️ Efficiency Redefined: Diesel-Electric Technology ⚙️
Diesel-electric technology delivers peak load demand energy supply. Batteries initiate movement, and the diesel generator recharges the battery, capturing braking energy for restarts. The generator's constant RPM eliminates turbo lag.
🌿 Environmental Benefits: Paving the Way for Change 🌿
Diesel-electric technology results in up to 70-100% fuel savings, directly correlating to a 75%-100% reduction in diesel exhaust. Smaller lithium batteries mean less environmental damage. Diesel-electric offers a practical transition to electric for energy-intensive trucking industries. Generator diesel engines ensure optimal fuel/air ratio, contributing to a hotter and cleaner burn of emissions.

For those wondering about the cost, I couldn't find for the Tiger Cat, but the Doosan DD100 doozer is around $140k USD for a lightly used model (everything new was "call for price"). The Doosan is priced about the same as used equipment from other manufacturers like CAT or Deere, even those with a dedicated forestry package & a few thousand hours. It's still crap no matter the price point. Can you imagine the small fortune you're going to have to spend in replacing those crappy plastic switches when they get beat on by the guys day in day out?

They set a purpose built logger next to General Excavation line from Volvo. Its not very honest number 1 and it's not comparing like to like. I come from this world and I understand he's being brief on tbe features of the doosan and Volvo for a reason. Tigercat is a great brand but they would look better if they stood toe to toe against like machines. Like a line backer creaming some sub hundo dweeb vs holding thier own against Lawrence Taylor. Which is more impressive?

The looks always matter. The question is: What do you want the looks to "say" about a machine. The Canadian one says: "I'm a robust workhorse, I'll get the job done." Seeing bolt's and so on isn't bad as well. Just place them nicely. Make sure they are installed correctly (nice and tight, maybe with a "decorative" washer). Use Quality bolts that won't rust away. This can actually look really nice. It just is a bit more effort then to click-in a plastic panel that will brake on its way out of the factory.

Depends how many are being made. If they've only made 10,000 of those bulldozers then you're probably right. But if they've made a million then those injection multiplastics have probably saved them about $100 per dozer

  • @samjubilee6593

For relatively flat panels with simple shapes, making the injection molds is not that expensive. (Use CAD files to CNC machine or 3D print the molds.) So probably much less than 10,000 units to break even on injection molds. I think it could be more about corporate mentality & forcing customer to buy replacment parts, rather than self repair.

@@jonasstahl9826 my issue isn't so much with the durability of plastic, although that certainly doesn't help, my issue is they're using it to try to save their money and make more money off of you later because you will be locked into replacement parts from the company whereas a flat steel panel is not exactly complicated for third parties, also even ignoring the number of suppliers for spare parts, it just makes machinery harder to repair because the plastic panels will use some bespoke mounting solution whereas flat steel panels will use the insanely complicated technology of nuts and bolts

In my opinion, the Doosan was designed in favour of cheaper assembly, and manufacturing costs. Doosan is a big company and they assess where to cut costs. On the other hand the tiger dozer was designed with the consideration of a lower manufacturing number. If the Canadian manufacturer would build 100k units instead of 5k they would also go for more plastic and snap and snip mounts.
