Can You 3D Print a HELMET on a SMALL 3D Printer? | TUTORIAL |

Ойын-сауық

This is a SUPER common question across my social medias- and for good reason! 3D printing something that is larger than the printer itself can be a bit intimidating. I hope this video gives you the confidence to print large items on any size printer!

    Just got a 3d printer a couple of weeks ago and was inspired by your videos to start working on an Ironman Mk 3 helmet on my Mega Zero 2. Couple of large pieces left to go that I was thinking about cutting up into smaller parts to avoid the 12 or so hour build times all at once. Going to have to get that Mesh mixer tonight and start cutting. IF I manage to not mess up too badly on the sanding and painting and such, next project will need to be some Halo helmet for my son. At least that one will be scaled a fair bit smaller so hopefully less work on the cutting to fit the printer. I have a feeling the house is going to be chock full of various helmets, armor, and accessories in the coming years. I think I'm going to need more printers lol

    Awesome video! Quick tip though, on cura, use the mirror tool. On a symmetrical helmet like Samus, you only have to export 1 half, saving room on your computer, and if you have one piece positioned great, you can just duplicate and mirror it, so you don't have to try and copy the positioning.

But the edges of this patterned section might be rounded. Hope that makes sense. Is there a tool that allows for freedom to cut/slice anything?

    Hi! I’m brand new to 3d printing and I’m debating which size printer to get (im between an ender or cr10) and I know that a lot of what I wanna print is larger pieces like helmets and armour stuff, so I’m wondering, if you could go back and redo it, would you still get a smaller printer or would you get a bigger one? I’m drawn to the ender because it seems like it’ll teach me a lot and the less space taken up the better but at the same time I’m worried the learning curve is too steep

  • @rose_d_mary

    @rose_d_mary

    Жыл бұрын

    @@lynn8313 learning curve is not bad at all, it’s quite simple. this 3D printer has taught me a lot about how printers work and how to maintain them and that’s important. above all, the important thing is practicing fusing stuff! if u put the time in sanding, fusing, etc, you’ll get much better products even with a small printer. you’re probably gonna have to fuse anyway even if you get a bigger printer

The only issue I've been running into when playing with the mesh of those models is they are mostly solid once you separate the shells for the head and torso. I want to make these into ball joint action figures but it would be way more awesome to do up a whole frame as a cosplay.

    I use microsoft's 3D Builder to do exactly what is shown in the video, and i think it's much more user friendly AND it doesnt leave any remainig glitchy mashes!

    Just a quick question. I know orca Slicer allows you to cut models as well. Do mesh mixer give additional / better cutting options?

    You should make a glowing green lantern ring and lantern, also a working omnitrix. Nobody's done those for some reason and as far as I can tell they are very simple to do but awesome

    Well a working omnitrix is, well, rather hard to make as I don’t think we have access to technology that changes a human into an alien at will then can transform them back.

    Thank you this was very helpful . I was trying to export my image after cutting it up with Meshmixer but when it gets to Cura a blue section is on a small part of it with a message saying missing or extraneous surface . It looks as if the wall to a part disappeared and I can’t close it off . I tried to go back to Meshmixer to view it again but the small pop up box with all of the separate shells disappeared. How do I get the box to pop back up and is there a way to fix this on Meshmixer so I can slice it on Cura ? I’ve restarted the cutting process 2 times already thinking I must’ve done something wrong with the same thing happening in different spots . I’ll take any help for I don’t want to cut it up a 3rd time and I got it the image cut exactly where I would like it

    I never thought about using a soldering iron. I'm working on a Mandalorian Helmet and I might do this instead of using Epoxy and risk it sliding.
