This is beautifully produced- I would go as far as to say it's a cinematic masterpiece. This is inspiring. This is SO nostalgic- I've played Minecraft since I was 3, and it was my first console (PS3) game- and it truly invokes your struggles and your final feeling of accomplishment once you were in that world. Amazing. You are an inspiration to gamers and tech geeks around the world.

Congratulations! It is easier to achieve on a faster PowerPC mac (I’ve achieved this on the iBook G4) but with the specifications of the iMac G3 in the video, it’s quite an achievement to get it running. (A 350 MHz G3 compared to a 1.42GHz G4 is quite a difference) I wonder how MacOSX tiger runs for normal use on the iMac G3 (performance, etc. updated web browsers built specially for PowerPC macs) Something interesting to keep open while doing these videos is showing RAM usage (we can assume cpu usage is at 100% the entire time when things are loading) Congratulations on the CD drive too!

@@zacharystaines Thank you! Yea! If thinking of buying another PowerPC mac, go with the G5! The performance difference is quite a lot compared to the G3! (But it is more of an accomplishment to get things running on the G3 iMac because of its hardware limitations. The G5 PowerMac has a much faster processor in comparison)

Its a dog. I had one of these. 400mhz g3, 1gb ram, 500gb hdd. The limiting factor was the rage 8mb graphics more than anything

I had the same problem with my G3 dead cd drive. I solved the problem by removing it, seeing how hard the mechanism was to even understand, smashing it on a surface, mounting it back in and seeing it work beautifully. It’s been 2 years and it’s still working

Finally, i remember the deviation I felt when I tried to upgrade my GPU drivers on my old laptop. Only to have it fail and revert to stock, couldn't fix it and Minecraft that I had played everyday up until then could no longer launch.

This definitely gives me hope with trying to run Minecraft on my early 2009 20 inch iMac

I'm getting flashbacks to the year 2000. I was about 13 years old with the exact same iMac that you have now barely able to play Quake 3 Arena or Diablo 2. And yet here you are running Minecraft on the same machine, a game from 2011. Wild stuff!

Wow, that Mac is so clean. Very good-looking piece of kit!

You might be able to get a more modern version of linux running on it which will then allow you to run x86 games with wine or dosbox. But still great video!

wine only works on x86 cpu's last i checked. dosbox would work though, i think there's already a build of dosbox for osx 10.4

This needs more attention. This can prove that so many things about oh tech is possible. Like, pushing old tech to their limits.

I love your videos, it's amazing that you managed to run a 2011 game on hardware from 1999. I tried getting youtube to work on my old sony xperia x10 mini pro from 2012 but eventually gave up.

reminds me of when i got my 19 year old dell tower to keep up with minecraft until update 1.16.5, that ol thing will forever be my favorite memory played it since it released on that thing

I managed to get 10.4 tiger on g3 imac just by installing the os on powermac G4, and then just swaped the HDD. 333 MHz and 32 megs of ram, no problem.

Congrats that it worked 🎉 Great hard work man :) It Almost Tooks a month maybe? I think that if you set the graphics to low or lowest, maybe it runs more smooth or really smooth :)

Him using the tweezers to sort out the disc reminded me when me and my brother was trying to open the disc compartment of our ps2 which had dusted and got stuck but he used tweezers to get it open

I started playing Minecraft when I was like 10 with the demo back in the day me and my friend would play together but the demo only had like 15 or 20 mins of play time and then it would reset the game I miss the old og tutorial maps

I see a KZreadr did minecraft java latest version on windows xp with weird results. Seeing this even it's just classicube it's neat. It made me remember playing multiplayer on a custom made built in survival server, it's the weirdest experience i ever had. Open source stuff is awesome.

Hey - great video! Did notice in a couple shots of the inside that the barrel battery that keeps the time and date is still installed. That battery is over 20 years old and it’s very common to see them leak VERY BADLY and permanently ruin the iMac - I’d suggest that you remove it. It doesn’t need to be replaced for it to work.

Dude is there like a market for this? Like people kinda updating old computers? I don't use s computer often but if I had an old pc from late 90s/00s that could play osrs it would be a nostalgia rush I'd totally buy something like that

i love classicube! i used to play it on my old xp pc, very small community but nice. its multiplayer minecraft classic but with plugins and approved by mojang

I used an upgrade from OWC on my original G3 iMac to upgrade it to a G4 and like 256mb of Ram. I used it for running an old version of Firefox. lol.

Im in love with the color grading. This content level is high asf.

Yeah keeping away from the top of the iMac is most definitely a good idea. Most of what's in there are Components for the CRT, not knowing what you're doing and one wrong move would send you to an early grave. CRTs are kinda dangerous to work on.

also did this on xp, i had to patch SSL certificates to get multimc to work properly but after that, i got 1.8.9 running at 40 - 120 fps

I'm a bit late to this party, but some of those G3's came with 600/700mhz CPU's and 16mb or vram rather than the usual 8mb. If you can find one, combined with an SSD, you can run tiger and it does run minecraft even better than the bondi model.

Hey did you know that at one point they were something called accelerator cards that you could get for your iMac G3 that could potentially speed it up? I would look for a video by ken , I don't remember his actual KZread name but he does a whole bunch of IMAX shenanigans and whatnot he has shown various cards to accelerate and or triple or double the performance of certain Macs that should not have gotten faster. That might help you actually get the original minecraft, not that open source clone working. I also recommend that you use optifine.
