18:13 the logo lighting isn't a waste of battery, it uses the cold cathode florescent back lights of the screen to light the apple logo. So there isn't any extra power being used to light it. Thats why OLED screens don't have that feature anymore.

The light up logo was actually SUPER useful for when your display didn’t light up for some reason, you could shine a light through the logo to see whether it was the display being off or the backlight.
@-ef
12 күн бұрын
Or they could make the display work in the first place :P
If I'm not mistaken, the apple logo lighting up doesn't waste power. It uses the light from the display. If you shine a bright light on the Apple with the screen off, you'll see the light come through. Normally displays have a layer that prevents this.
Me watching this on a HP
The light-up logo was lit by the backlight of the LCD display, so they actually didn't use any extra battery. That's also why there could be a hotspot on the middle of the display: the sun could shine through it lighting up that spot. In my experience this only happened with direct sunlight shining on the logo.

I never understood where people got the idea that the light up logo wastes battery. If anything it’s more efficient or neutral. It’s just the normal backlight for the screen, it’s not a separate light. That’s why it can create a hotspot in the screen in some lighting. Because you’re literally looking through the display.

As a life time Windows and Linux user, buying a MacBook pro with M2 Max earlier this year was quite an experience. The performance is amazing and I've found that it's become my daily driver instead than firing up my noisy and heat generating i9 13900k gaming rig to use it for work and non-gaming related tasks. I'm quite impressed on where Apple has taken their laptops today.

I've been using unreal engine on an M1 macbook air and just recently the performance you could expect has jumped from playable framerates at low settings to high or even epic graphics. This is more a testament to Epic finally optimizing for apples hardware but it also shows just how much performance you can squeeze out of a bottom of the line apple silicon chip if you actually bother to design for it. And people were already impressed by what it could do under rosetta.

This is a fascinating video and just shows the staggering development of computers. It also takes me back, as thirty years ago and a teacher, I was second in charge in my school's science department and responsible for a lot of the equipment spending, especially technology. I was allowed to buy a laptop for my personal use and in a world of PCs, chose an Apple Powerbook 145B. It proved very useful, though back then, it scared me stiff commuting with it, carrying it on the tube and buses in its shoulder bag! My very first laptop I bought exclusively for my own use was in 1999. Yep, an iBook in the same blueberry colour as the one you got. I loved it but hated the 'handbag' appearance if you carried it by its built-in handle. My current laptop is a 2020 M1 MacBook Air. Happy days and thanks for the memories!
As a devoted Apple enthusiast, I must express that this KZread video stands out as one of the finest I've seen recently. The level of thought put into it is truly commendable. Witnessing the evolution of all the models from their inception was truly captivating. Consider me a new subscriber! 😉

MacOS 10 on the iBook is seriously impressive. The design looks shockingly modern for just how old it is. I've generally been a Windows/Android guy for most of my life (but I bounce back and forth and you should too because both are excellent.) But Apple has always had their finger on the pulse of design. When it comes to hardware and software/UI, Apple has been top notch in this regard. I have always appreciated Apples relentless focus on making things look beautiful and easy to use. It's that obsessive attention to detail that has made them the most successful, and by FAR the most influential tech company on the planet.

My first laptop was the PowerBook G3 - I had the 333mhz version. After that I got the white 500mhz iBook G3 (had to buy and install the AirPort card separately to get the WiFi working). One model line you missed was the Duo - it was the first ultra portable which was so small it didn’t even have a floppy drive and there was a dock you could insert it into like a cartridge and provided support for media/enhanced GPU etc. was the MacBook Air of the 90s
got a second hand macbook 12" in 2018 for university and though it lags at times like adding animations to powerpoint but other than that it had been really smooth. i studied engineering and was tired of carrying my acer laptop which was so heavy and it got me through 5 years of uni. done so much coding and stuffs there and it's about to reach the end of its time but really loved the 12", wish they would make an update version. the size is literally perfect
The cool bit about the Retina MacBook was that it didn't actually drain battery with the lit up apple logo. It used the light from the backlight as the logo light. Wish they never got rid of it.
Gotta mention that the retina MacBook Pro improvements also apply to the last generation of unibody MacBook Pro’s.
9:07 I love how modern macbooks look exactly like they did back in the day, I knew it looked pretty old-school but I didn't know it was this old-school
While using bargain bucket PCs at home, it was the candy colored iBooks that were my introduction to Apple back in high school school; it just stuck with me and then upon being given an iBookG4 for going to college in '04 - that's when it became my personal computing choice. Yes, they have enormous (GIGANTIC) problems in how they do things, but I've always just enjoyed using their products more and am ok being within the ecosystem. This was a fascinating ride!
6:06The upside down logo on the powerbook G3 had me laughing
The first Macbook Air was an engineering masterpiece
This is sick, good job Mrwhostheboss, you put in the most work I’ve ever seen in a channel.

The MacBook Pro early 2008 model was my first Apple laptop and I will never forget the PREMIUM feel it had when first opening it after being a windows user for years. Never got back to Windows again.
Very informative, nice!
Love the effort he puts into his videos, and also always finding a way to rickroll us😂

5:27 The Apple service guy was really patient, considering what Arun asked him...
18:14 the logo lighting up used exactly 0 battery power because the screen already lit up all they had to do was make a slight cut out on the back of the LCD to let some light through and film light up Apple logo. And as long as you weren't in direct sunlight we wouldn't have an issue of bleedthrough.
The great thing about Arun is that he gives more info like how more powerful a system is
small correction there. The logo that light's up doesn't use extra battery and is the same light from the screen. as explained below. It gets light from the backlight. The glowing Apple logo is not a light, but rather a window into the backlight of the display. The Apple Logo is illuminated from the rear of the display panel. The light from the display panel passes through Apple's logo, resulting in its illumination. Thank you for the work ! I love what you do !

Your videos have gotten a lot more entertaining than they were a year ago. Keep up the good work:)
We didn't call portables back then "laptops" -- it wasn't meant to be on your lap. It was basically a portable desktop. We called them"luggables". Also, check out the "Compaq Portable" which looked like a suitcase
its sometimes crazy to think that for people back in 1989, laptops were a complete revolution of gadgets, meanwhile today any new laptop model is basically the same thing but with a bit better components
12:35 I still have and use that model (polycarbonate mid 2009, Core 2 Duo) MacBook to this day, I've added extra RAM an SSD and got it running El Capitan. Still a great machine I've used for more than 10 years and plan on using till it dies.
