What causes us to love all these monkeys, the babies, young and elderly ones so very much? This channel, is wonderful, i feel he is giving us a gift, even though it is his job, his business, you know he found his zen and we see & feel the love he equally shares with us for the monkeys and how much he knows and cares for each and every one of them. Thank you so very much for doing such a beautiful job, including the wonderful added touch of lovely soothing music. 🌷

I agree, but Arroz is not videoing there at Monkey Hill 24/7. He works, has a responsible position in a respected profession, and has to earn a living; and we viewers are very lucky and IMHO privileged to see his creative work, and the troupes he has been following since 2016. So I assume the videos that we see are edited highlights of his weekend hikes. As such he will only interact and record what ever troupes he meets on the various roads there. An AM statistic, based on his videos of the babies over the years was that 20% die in the first 6 months after birth due to; accidents, malnutrition or infection. His opinion was that fatal falls being high on the list. This IIRC increases to 32% as babies get more independent from their mothers, and start adventuring more. Also road kill where babies are under the feeders cars is also happening. I would add there is another cameraman who also videos at Monkey Hill, it is the JW channel. However there is no verbal narrative, just banners in the video providing an explanation. I suspect that this individual is a Hong Kong resident Chinese speaker with a good knowledge of English, but we also have access to other troupes. I have been watching the story of a baby called Stormy and his physical difficulties. Sadly the narrative informs us that Stormy died on 26 November 2021. RIP Stormy.

@@michaelhearn3052 Nicely done. Another long time viewer. I did ask Arroz if he knew how the little one died (knowing falls take quite a few). But sometimes the locals do see how it happened as in the case of poor Valorie. Arroz also used Snippets in his videos when he 1st started. But most of us love the voice over. JW does speak English quite well. He also spends time editing his videos nicely. I suspect that is why both have gotten behind. There just isn’t enough time in the day. JW has added music and a sound effect here and there. My hubby does editing for some musician friends that he videos at the Renaissance Faire and it’s very tedious and time consuming (and he is editing videos of a group of musicians or a comedy troupe that stay in one place). Arroz and JW are following moving subjects. What I also find remarkable is how well they are able to tell one monkey from the rest! I could probably ID Our Gang from 2016 and probably most of 2017, but after that…. Unless they have something really different about them, my rate of success drops a lot! LOL Sorry to have rambled on. I am recuperating from a recent illness and have gotten behind in viewing the videos. Take Care Michael. Have a good night.

Watching the clip of them climbing alone when they were so small does make me think an accidental fall or similar from being too adventurous could’ve occurred. There’s also the fact a car that could’ve hit them, the mother monkey may have carried the body afterwards and left it somewhere when they realised they were dead. Natural causes could still be possible too tho. It’s a sad truth not all baby animals are healthy enough to reach adulthood. I’m honestly not sure if the option of being taken/eaten by a predator is an option to consider or not, I’m not familiar with what other animals live in this region and if any of them would prey on small monkeys, especially one that we’ve seen wander quite a bit from their mother’s side, making them vulnerable.

The ones filmed in Cambodia are also being interfered with constantly by the people who film them so there’ll be “drama” which they use to get more views, and unfortunately they know baby monkeys getting hurt get them the most views on KZread. There’s well over 20 different people there filming them everyday, all day, those monkeys must be extremely stressed out. It’s nice that the monkeys we see on this channel are left alone, they seem to all be much happier, relaxed monkeys.

There is no culling done in Cambodia, so far as i know. I'm ignoring the Fake titles that the Cambodian cameramen use in their videos. The last cull authorised by the Cambodian government was in 2013 iirc. Some species of Macaque are endangered like the pig tails and are protected as too many hybrids are being born. So this is why they have the relocations to sort out the different species and release them into their own troupes for breeding purposes. Also pig tails are more sort after as pets to perform in videos which we see. Again it's illegal in Cambodia to own a macaque as a pet and it is something the authorities are trying to clamp down on. But that still does not stop people owning them. There is an individual in Singapore IIRC who videos JK and Shady. Now he owns these two monkeys and is in possession of a legal document signed by their Forestry Dept and a vet to prove this so I have been told.

Could have been a fatal fall or road kill. 20% of babies die in the first 6 months from accidents malnutrition or an infection. This increases to 32% after 6 months as they get more independent from their mothers. It's an AM statistic based on the mortality rates of babies he calculated since he started filming in 2016. Details are in one of his investigatory videos. They carry the dead baby around for some 2 to 5 or do days. It gets emaciated and will purify giving off a pungent and increasingly offensive smell or odour as it decomposes. It's at that point that the mum abandons the dead babies body. If you Google in KZread Jockro that takes you to a video based on a research film made in 1992. The baby died and it's body was carried around by its mother for over 3 weeks. A mother did abandon her dead baby in one of AMs recent videos. Not sure if AM actually found it and did the Autopsy or Post Mortum as we call it here in the UK.

It is possible that the baby died from a fatal fall or ended up as road kill which can happen if the babies go under the feeders cars. Just an opinion.

It is illegal in HK to have a rhesus monkey as a pet. Also they don't make good pets adorable as babies but as adults they are not. They pee and poo everywhere on you your kids in your home and on your kitchen table when you are serving food. That's why they have to be put in a nappy or diaper permanently needing regular changing They also smell which is why they get washed daily that removes their natural scent and oils from their skin which is a problem if the owner decides to abandon them back into the wild. There are videos on KZread giving reasons why they should not be pets. BUT... That still may not stop some people. Chimps are the worse there's the story iirc of Floyd Iirc a male chimp in the US that badly mauled it's owners friend. There's a video about it on youtube including an interview with the police office that shot it. I would also add the authorities in HK do neuter these monkeys in order to control numbers. You can see evidence of this in some of AMs videos if they have a tattoo on their chest showing a Chinese figure. This IMHO includes males and females. I do recall a notice in one of AMs videos at monkey hill stating this and other wild life aswell there are wild pigs in that area also.

This is indeed a very nice tribute to Benji, Arroz. He sure was a cute little fellow. Is it just me or does it seem like Bea is not as protective as a first time monkey mother? It almost seemed like her maternal instinct didn't quite kick in. 🤔 I really feel bad for her, though. She probably did the best she could being as first time mom, I suppose.

A.M I have an important question, I watch everything you release, investigation series on angor wat etc, so at one point a few months back, you mentioned there were long tailed macaque somewhere in the area of course divided from the troops on the hill, but, with Benji going missing, and of course if he is deceased one can only hope it was natural of course, but being a baby, and babies in stress, maybe something like getting lost and seeing other monkeys running to them thinking it's safe, do you think it's possible the macaque troops have moved closer to the hill no one knowing this and Benji was caught by one of the long tails? And I'm sure you can imagine what would happen if they caught a pig tail, is there a possibility that a couple of the missing babies may have become victim of a long tail?

People? When the Bolly's of the troop can snatch and taunt the mum's with no repercussions; what is to stop her from snatching a bebe from a sister or cousin? (Still trying to understand the family of whom is related to whom). Bossy sits by and does nothing when her daughter is putting the lower ranks babies at risk. IDK; family is exempt?

It's always a mystery when a baby turns up missing without any signs leading up to them going missing, such as seeing them lose weight or have an infection or injury. Of course, there could always be a birth defect that could suddenly take a life, such as a heart abnormality, but even defects that are silent cause a few warning signs such as lethargy or losing weight, that sort of thing. His mother, even for being a first-time mom, was very good but babies can have accidents or be grabbed by males very quickly. It's bad enough when you see something happen to a baby but worse when the just disappeared. RIP Benji
