The last day of May I - The girl with a shabby coat 🥺

Blooper: 2:21 should be Pepper, not Flöffi
She always wear a shabby coat - be it summer or winter. It must be hard for her to keep herself and her baby warm. She was the first to response to an abandoned baby's call for help. A remarkable girl's tale to beat the odds.

    Yeah, I’m surprised that they didn’t try to do something similar to skimpy, even though she was a baby. The baby must’ve been with her. Perhaps they gave skimpy some kind of special nutrition while they were sterilizing the mom. It’s just terrible humans really have taken it upon ourselves to do whatever the heck we want.

I'm really curious about those kind of specifics of the sterilization process though like what do they do with the yearlings caught or the babies clinging to their drugged up and kidnapped mom? Do some of them have trauma from the experience?? The way AM described how they sedate them honestly sounds horrifying 😬

    @@prpr44still, I wish they would have a system where they kept an eye on who has had babies, because sterilization for many primate species means inference to troop dynamics. Having babies can be a factor on a females ranking. A low ranking female who has one of two babies with only one being a girl or one who had had only one boy is still treated better than a female who has never had any. It’s like the females who don’t produce any babies are treated like ‘dregs’ for a lack of better term, because they aren’t producing anything to contribute the troops future. I would understand random sterilization round ups in places like India and parts of south east Asia, where monkeys like Rhesus macaques live constantly near humans are far more aggressive this population shown in Kam Shan country park, but these monkeys are generally a so well behaved around humans that it feels too rushed to sterilize the females without a plan.

    I could watch macaques all day long no matter the type. They are mesmerizing. My favorites are Rhesus and Northern Pigtails. I'd say my least favorite would be the longtails. Maybe that is due to the content creators. Though those same creators do Pigtail content as well. However the Pigtails were the only ones to fight back against over bearing vos. I started cheering when she dropped out of the tree and tore one of them a new rear-end. I'm sure they made her pay for it, but she definitely got some good licks in on that punk.

  • @DanielC__

    Wish I had seen that but I find the long tails vile. I think it’s mostly because of the VO’s as they’re innocent but the behavior seems so much different. I can’t watch them anymore though. The VO’s are horrible to them and the activity at the shrine in Cambodia is completely different then these troops.

  • @jbielinski12

    @jbielinski12

    23 күн бұрын

    I think that the VO's have been harassing the long tails for a far longer period of time. Vos have had more generations to essentially rip up the nature of a proper troop dynamic. The long tails have gotten to the nature of rarely leaving the temple complex areas. The macaques know that people bring food. Why go and forage when you've got people throwing food at you. So the troops don't go and forage into the deeper jungle areas. None of them really do. So the natural foodstuffs they would normally have in their diet has long since been eradicated from the temple environs. Their dietary system isn't used to daily eating of the bread, sugars and other sweetened items. Ii have read that the long tails have a problem with stopping eating they're full. I would think that this behavior would be typical. If you come across food then you ate it. If you can access it. As you never know when food would show itself again. So basically they don't have a stoplight on their appetite. Then obesity develops with all the typical health problems that go with it. The breeding control used to be more typically in the hands of the breeding age females. Some would elect to have that one baby per year. Others would be more likely to skip an occasional year. That control has been usurped by the big males and their aggression. And most of the females now have a baby each year. The heightened aggression is not solely sat with the males. The females are also more aggressive. The higher ranking ones (even the higher ranking adolescents) will be more than happy to kidnap a lower ranking baby. I think that the kidnappings are more frequent and more dangerous. The higher ranks (females) kidnap because they can. They could grab a lower ranked baby. Keep it for a while and release it to mom. Which would be typical. They can also grab the baby and drop it from the tallest tree and kill it. None in the troop would lay blame on the kidnapper as this would be in their right. In fact if the lower rank mom tried. too hard to keep hold of her baby and therefore denying rights of the higher rank females. They can do what they want. So in light of the kidnapping issue the mothers seem to tend to keep their babies gathered close. Protection..This i think delays the development of the babies. The alpha males within a troop would typically stay in that position for longer periods of time. Now I have observed that they get overthrown sooner. A new alpha make is highly likely to kill the nursing babies (they likely wouldn't be his biologically) so mom will be more inclined to breed with the new guy. So many troops in such close contact leads to greater aggression by the big breeding size males. Those males attached to troops are desperate to breed. To ensure that their genetics are passed on. So the males are far more frequently breeding the females. Even thou the females are only in heat for one period of time thru the year. Mid-late fall I think. Then birthing season is about 5.5-6 months later. So the males are aggressive in their treatment of the other nearby troop males in addition to aggressive with the females. The males are also breeding the females ever earlier which drives them into menarche. The young males are being driven out of their natal troops earlier as well. I think that the freshly ousted males (who are supposed to join other troops) don't understand the process. They don't leave the area as it is the only area they have known. They can't get too far from their birth troop as that exposes them to the other nearby troops aggressive males. Typically a newly ousted male (or males) would bind together to form a transitory bachelor troop until they can get accepted to a more formal troop. So they have a hard time getting truly away from their mothers troop. So they have a longer period of being in that 'newly ousted' transitory troop to a true bachelor troop phase. The troops that normally would be looked upon to be adopted by mainly know the young males as something to be driven off. Now a lot of this is from general curiosity and watching videos and from doing some research into the long tails. And, in my completely amature opinion, I'm thinking that the VOs have greatly damaged the many generations of macaque structure and society. Sorry for the dissertation (not sorry). I just get interested when good questions/thoughtful insight come across my view.

    The VO’s have brainwashed you into thinking the Long Tails are vile. They aren’t. I used to watch videos of 1 long tail and 3 pig tails. The long tail always tried to protect the smallest pigtails and would get frantic if he couldn’t get them away from their captor. He was the sweetest of the 4 monkeys. But the captor always called him “naughty” “nasty” “mean” “bad” because she hated him and wanted others to hate him too and it worked, except for a few of us who saw how sweet he really was.

    @@gsmith6026 I dont disagree. Like I said, I think it’s mostly because of the VO’s but the net is cast and I’m not sure I’d give watching those channels another chance. Partly because I’m unsure what channels are exploiting and what channels are on the up and up. There seems to be quite a few in Cambodia but I don’t think you’d disagree those monkeys behaviors are different then the HK monkeys. They’re very aggressive and very forward with people. Again, some of that is the VO’s fault but I’ve never seen the HK monkeys act with such candor. It’s unfortunate as I’m sure other monkeys are as enjoyable to watch but before I found these channels I had a negative impression of the Macaques. I landed in HK in 2007 and went to work for CX. I remember reading the paper when this sterilization program got underway. I met friends who had bad experiences with the monkeys and saw one or two TV stories about the program but that was it. I paid little attention to Kam Shan or the monkeys when I was living there. Didn’t really think much about them until I left and here I am today following them on YT. How ironic. Cheers…

    @jbielinski12 I really don't think we can judge long-tail behaviour on the AW videos. Those monkeys have been so tortured, tormented, harassed and affected by humans for quite some time. I don't think they remember how to be monkeys. Their physical structure and physiology has also been changed by the human food given them. I am sure all the sugar and additives in the food they eat must alter their brain structure too. They are forced into unnatural troops, leaders, and any that stayed wild were killed, or went missing. The AW monkeys are no longer true monkeys. I would imagine if this continues, these monkeys will develop into a new sub-species after a few generations. I'm by no means an expert or even really knowledgeable, but I can see it happening.

    That would be Charlotte. Her story doesn't have a happy ending. The videos about her are a couple of Arroz's most popular, so they are easy to find if you want to view them for yourself. Summary with spoilers after the gap. Charlotte was abandoned at birth by her birth mom and raised for two weeks by the daughter of a couple of the registered feeders. Due to legal and ethical concerns, Charlotte was released to Skullhead troop after two weeks, with Skinny being the one to carry her off. After that, Charlotte somehow transferred custody to a high-ranking male known as Enoch/Flea Picker/Gerry. He was too possessive to let any of the females get near Charlotte and nurse her. The feeders made a grab before Charlotte dehydrated, but it was already too late. She had already suffered a head injury at some point, leading to her death a few hours after the grab.
