Dorothy may be able to feed her, but Daphny is softly hooting to go back to mom. Kinda feel for her. No one, not even grandma, beats out mom.

I missed alotta last year's baby season so I am lost on the Dorothy-Dorty-BabyDaphny situation... whats going on with Dorty? Why won't she take Daphny or let Daphny nurse? She has milk, we saw her drinking from her nips in this video. What happened to her baby last year?

@@PandoraBVV Last year Dorothy took Dorty’s first born baby Beany away from her shortly after she was born. Within a few weeks Dorothy was dragging around the lifeless body with the actual mother still unable to get a look in. Arroz speculated that the baby may have died in a fall after a tug of war battle over the baby. This year Dorty held onto her baby for longer but Dorothy finally got her hands on the new baby and Dorty is once again forced to follow her mother & baby closely while unable to hold her own infant.

@@PandoraBVV You mean Dorothy, the grandma. She lost her last baby 2 years ago. She is very old and hasn't had any since. Her daughter, Dorty, had Beany last year, and Dorothy kept taking him away and "babysitting" him. She was able to nurse him due to what I call sympathy lactation. But Beany ended up dead and from what we can tell, it probably was a tug of war situation between them up in a tree or something. He had fall injuries. So this year, Dorty had Daphny, and Dorothy is doing the same thing, stealing her grandkid away, probably due to missing having a baby. Because its her mom, Dorty really has no choice but to wait it out to get her baby back, because her mom outranks her in the hierarchy. Let's hope Daphny won't be another Beany.

@@PandoraBVV Dorothy is also sterilised now, so the only chance for babies for her is to basically use her daughter as a surrogate. Like @grannywillow said, Dorty can’t forcefully take her back from her own mother….and if she tries in the wrong place we might end up with another Beany situation (as she described).

I wish I had a mother half as loving as Reddy lol

I am so mad and so sad for Dorty and Daphny!!!!! It is ripping my heart in two.

For a baby that’s still fairly unsteady on her feet on solid ground, Cora was doing quite well at her foray climbing the pole!

Gigy sure is a whole lotta adorableness.

Poor Daphny, even with grandma lactating, she just wants to be with her mother. Not locked up like punishment. 💔

I wonder if, now that Dorothy is lactating again, Daphny ever gets to nurse from mum? Dorty’s milk will dry up if Daphny is almost always nursing from Dorothy.

@@ickiedeer-lamb7282 I so very much hope that doesn’t happen! Dorty doesn’t seem to be so aggressive trying to retrieve Daphny but rather just constantly shadowing. Of course we don’t know what happens all the time….while it may be an uncomfortable babyhood, if she can survive it long enough to be weaned, well, we can only hope. She’s such a sweet little one.

The Dorty and Dorothy situation makes me angry. I don’t like “babysitting” and/or kidnapping… at all!!! 😢

Daphne needs her mum, it is apparent that she wants to return to the loving embrace HER MUM can give her. Dorothy is a bully, period. However, I do not wish the baby any physical harm. Let’s pray it works out. 🙏🏼🙏🏼

I love how you have taught us how to learn from their world.

Just info: Dorothy could lactate, if the right stimulus was applied. She lost a baby, her last, 2 years ago. Then last year, Beany nursed on her. This year, Daphny. She's had stimulus for nursing for the last 3 years in a row. And, like all females of most mammal species, once you've given birth, your body is always primed to lactate, again, as long as you have the stimulus for it, like a continuously nursing child. Even me, at 56, who nursed my only child 30 years ago, in a pinch, could nurse a baby, if they nursed on me for a day or two, could produce milk. So, Dorothy can too. This is how wet nurses work. Ain't science cool?? Edit: It's also how, before hormone therapy, cows could continue to produce milk, long after their calf grew up, as long as the farmer milked them every morning.

I love how they watch so intently on looking at the baby. So focused and interested. Also on they they groom one another. You’d think they were trying to solve all the worlds problems. They are so beautiful. So wonderful to see them interact with each other rather than with humans

Poor Bolly, though. The way she watches calmly but almost sadly and then reaches out just to stroke Becky’s foot is heartbreaking. It might be anthropomorphism to say that but I can’t be convinced the emotion in animals so close to us isn’t there.

It is astounding their flexibility!!! 13:59. I’d get stuck forever in that position!! So fun to see the different stages: babies learning, older kids playing, Moms being gentle and attentive with their babes…. Just adorable!!! ❤️ Lilaby is a rambunctious little one!!!

Poor Dorty. I wonder if she ever gets to hold Daphny. If Dorothy is really lactating I wonder how long that took. So maybe if Skinny or one of the other childless females got Charlotte, maybe she would have had a chance.

Oh Gigy does look like Fify. I just love the way Reddy reaches for her babies with a loving arm around the shoulders to bring them to her. I also think Dinky looks a lot like Dopy. I see the confusion in the pretty eyes of Daphne reaching for Mom, to have Mom recoil in fright. I still wouldn't have Bossy's daughters near my babies, sympathizing or not.

I find the relationship between Dorty and Dorothy so painfully f'ed up. My heart breaks for Dorty. Daphne may not be in any danger, but keeping a mother from her child is not only unnatural, but it's psychologically devastating. Mom Dorothy is putting her own messed up needs before her daughter's... and that's why I will never fully understand macaque society. No-one will intervene and Dorty won't stand up to her Mum. I guess human society can be similar, too. Oh well, it works for them. And I wouldn't know anything or be able to comment without your detailed and loving ethnographic research and observation for the last six or seven years, AM. Thank you. I love videos like this- you doing what you do best... being one with the macaques.

This isn't the norm in macaque society. The Mum/child bond seems to be respected aside from some kidnappings which usually don't last very long or there is some babysitting with the Mum's consent.

Oh WoW....so THAT is what the deal is? Dorothy is stealing Dorty's babies? WoW, if so I feel so bad for Dorty & Daphny. Daphny is so very pale and has that unmistakable deep sadness and desperation-despair in her eyes that we only see in the babies who are deprived of their mothers physically and emotionally.

Last year, Dorty's baby died, and it's suspected Dorothy may be at fault for always stealing the baby and fighting with her daughter if she tried to get her baby back. Even when Beany died, Dorotthy wouldn't allow Dorty the body to grieve properly. Dorothy carried if many days after passing very decomposed with Dorty following close behind obviously wanting her baby still.

I just love Cora! What a cutie. They're all cute but to me Cora has something extra.

I don't know if Dorothy is lactating or not I hope she is and those little whimpers and cries we're hearing from Daphne is because she wants her mother and maybe because she's not getting any milk from her grandmother

I'm not so sure she is lactating, either. The orphan babies at the Vervet Monkey Foundation will "nurse" their adoptive moms but it soothes and pacifies only. That's why they are taught to go into the feeding cages for their milk before adoption. I noticed about the time the other babies began to nurse Daphne seemed more stressed and anxious for her Mom. I hope this isn't a repeat of last year.

The Mum's sure have their hands full when the babies start walking. 😬

Thay are so precious. I would love to hold one and pet her/him. Your videos are so informative and honest. They look so much more satisfied here than they do when humans have they.

I love watching your videos, you are a remarkable person! I hate the situations that these beautiful monkeys are put in, all bc of greed and power. But I now watch guilt free and being educated and entertained. Poor Dorty, there's a KZread channel ,vervet forest foundation and they are great too. But I say this bc they get abandoned babies, and injured ones ec but what they do is have foster moms that will take the babies and teach them and raise them. And if there is ever a program for these monkeys she'd be great as a foster mom! Thank you 🥰

Lovely to watch normal monkey activity, especially with so many babies! Baby season is great to watch.

Gypsy kids are very loving towards each other and her in my opinion that says a lot about her . She some times seems a little unconventional but I think she may be a very good mum. Just a thought.

Just love all this adorableness. I think Dorty will one day get to snatch Daphne back when Dorothy lets her go to walk around. She knows that will have to be done soon. It was so sad to see Dorty reach to touch her baby's hand when she was grooming her mom. Out of all the family units, Ridgy's children are the only ones with their father around to make a more complete family unit. Are Ridgy and Bossy siblings? They sure look alike.

I know Daphne is in no danger, but I still wish Dorty could have her baby. It was the same with Benji. I don't know what is worse, not being able to have a baby, or having a baby of your own and not being able to nurse and cuddle her. Granny doesn't grab Aggys' babies. I feel sorry for Dorty and Daphne, they clearly want each other. :'(

Daphny's littles cries for Dorty just break my heart.

Every time I see nipples stretched that far, I cross my legs. Just a reflex! 😂 PS: I think that if one of those baby snatchers tried taking one of Bossy's she would go on the attack faster than a 240 Z at the starting line. They would have to shoot her and unfortunately I think that's what they do in other counties. I am thrilled that Reddy is much better. Having a lot of babies will do that at least in humans.

Poor Dorty, her mom is baby crazy and it’s just not fair to Dorty. JMO but I don’t think Dorothy cares too much about her own daughter, just the babies she can have, it just seems cruel to me.😔

The babies seem especially squirmy this year... LOL

All these babies are so adorable. I enjoy seeing them in their own environment. If people didn’t come daily to feed them could they survive on their own?

@@ChristyDPrice I truly believe that to. I think they could forage enough food to do so. Some would wonder in town that’s why I suspect they have some registered feeders.

@@josephhuman7390 I suspect that they would wonder too. I am not sure they could live well eithout the feeders because lots of the vegetation is poisonus to them although they know to eat kaolin to counteract it. I am not sure they would fair well in a really cold winter either or a really bad drouth. On Gibralter the Barrbary apes (macaques) cause havoc in town. They know how to raise unlocked windows and can really damage a house, just having fun getting into everything. And they have primate vets and primate nutritionists feeding and caring forp them. I love monkeys but i would be a little irritated to come home to monkey poop all over, shredded electronics, everything in refrigerator on the floor and partly eaten, broken dishes, etc. The guide was telling us about some that get in his house. But they love their monkeys, the legend is as long as there are monkeys on Gibralter, it will be be British. During WWII, the monkey population dropped dramatically. A message was sent to Churchill and he got some more from Morocco sent to Gibralter post haste. Up on the Rock of Gibralter a little wizened mom with a suckling tiny baby were sitting where the buses drive up. She moved 3 inches back, like she knew exactly where the wheels were going to be next. It missed her by an inch snd she did not flinch but i did.

This troop has a higher infant survival rate due to good mothering and family support. It takes a village of monkeys to safely raise a baby!

Plus the babies will have ‘Grandpa Grandee’ close by to help out. I can’t wait to see his first generation of grandchildren toddling all over him like his little fan club of daughters have!

@@Filecabinet0170 IF Grandee is not also their dad, lol. Vivy is fertile now, she just skipped a year, and Fify will be this fall/winter, and monkeys don't really have incest issues. It's very possible that when they go into heat, and if Grandee is around, he would follow instinct and mate with them. Happens all the time.

@@vg7735 yes, Bessie’s boy is his grandson, but it’s Fifi that’s always by his side. Ridgy’s younger girls of his have shadowed him, but Fifi is almost his sidekick. Bessie was never as close for so long.

I think now that lubby has had her new baby I think she's going to stay mostly with our gang instead of drifting like she used to do

I suspect both Rena and Cora are Grandee's kids, which would make it easier for her to transition from Annie's troop to Bossy's.

I'm very unhappy seeing Dorothy keeping little Daphne against her will. Dorothy can suddenly feed her now?? WTF? Not quite sure how that's working. I have a feeling that Dorothy has no intention of giving her back to Dorty. She can feed her now, what does she need Mom for? I'm pretty sure that has actually happened a few years ago. He ended up passing away, an Dorothy wouldn't give her back her baby so she could mourn. I was really pissed. So shes done it b4. I hate that she wont just let her go play or anything that is ridiculous. Idk what her problem is but its pissing me off all over again!

Lisa Morin, I have the exact same feelings when it comes to Dorothy and Dorty. No one should have the right to keep a baby from it's Mom grandma or not. So I watched them in frustration. Wanting to grab Daphny from grandma and return to Mom. As another viewer commented poor Daphne is a prisoner not allowed to move out and explore even a little like her contemporaries from Grandma's arms. When she was with Mom she was allowed to climb a little explored a little all under mom's watch. Just so sad to witness.

An why does she keep her, shes clearly trying to get free an making calls for her mom, an if Dorty just let's it happen it will happen with every child she has. @@tngrandma242 daily the person's involved are part of our monkey hill gang. I won't say anything else so as not to sink to her level, but if I don't Jon comments during video I'm dealing with hurt feelings. Sad because I have never had any problems with any of our family. As the hurt heals I'll be back normally but I don't want to cause the person the pain she caused me, and I'll only choose people like yourself to share what goes on in my life so I can't be accused of upmanship again.

First time seeing a mom hold her baby so long like that.

In their world also all kind of different moms and their their different ways to treat their kids I don’t wish my mom to anybody, even my enemy...
