Well done sir. Good to see a fellow wrencher, in his driveway, no fancy shops with a hoist to just drop the engine. Makes it satisfying to see this "old school" wrenching. A huge thumbs up from the great white north. Keep it up.👍👍👍👍👍

I know this video is old, but I just wanted to say that I can appreciate your work on this. I know there are a lot of KZreadrs out there buying and working on cars, as if it's a difficulty for them with their lifts, garage full of every piece of equipment you could need, and using it as a side project. Yet, here you are staying up late, getting up early, dealing with the cold, climbing in an engine bay with no lifts, access to tools you have on hand which is far less, and likely a smaller budget than those other people. This is also a critique of the euro-car snobs who continuously buy BMW and Mercedes as if their overengineered garbage sitting on their in home car lifts are some gift from God. Anyway, I appreciate the video and insights.

I got an 04 Lariat. Gets serviced every 3-5k miles. Runs flawlessly. It does the knocking but I’ve been told if you ain’t knocking then you ain’t rocking. 160k on mine so far. I’m the third owner. First was an old man, second was a guy who wanted a work truck but bought a lariat and thought it was too nice. Also came from a small truck so he didn’t like a big trucks gas mileage. I bought it due to us having a child and I was driving a single cab Ford Ranger at the time and needed something for a car seat. I literally love my truck. It’s such a good truck for me and tows everything I put behind it. Goes through mud easy too. I believe these trucks are how you drive them is how they last. If you push it all the time it’s gonna have problems. I typically drive it 20 miles every day 5 days a weekend on weekends it either sits all weekend or is hauling my trailers around and working. Cruise around 50 most of the time in back roads and have all windows down and back one open so ac don’t have to run or stress. I think I got me a good one

I bought everything on Amazon. Cam phasers Water pump Timing chain kit Intake manifold gasket Motorcraft sparkplugs VCT gaskets Timing solenoids The most expensive parts were the cam phasers $240 each, truck has two. These are OEM, you don't want to use aftermarket phasers. Some smaller parts and bolts I got at the Ford dealer, since they were not a big difference than Amazons price. Parts I paid around $1,100. I saved a lot on labor, since my brother did the work.

Some manufacturers give a dry torque and or oil (or wet) torque, But for future reference u only need enough “lube” for the threads, u gotta be careful loading the hole with oil, it can cause a hydraulic lock at the bottom of the hole when u try to torque the fastener, giving a false torque value

@BB_Gun public bandit that's alot of mile just goes to show that with good maintenance oil changes. These trucks last a long time I got a 5.4 3V too I rebuilt the engine and transmission and got like 4,000 miles on it but it's good to see video their very informative. You should make a video just to see what we could all do to reach 400,000 mile bro.

90 degrees after torque..Ford sure does love their 90 degrees. How bout an actual torque spec? TF is "30lbs torque, then oh yeah turn it some more"..?? This pos engine is case in point. "Ford guys","Ford Techs", and especially those hacks at the Ford dealerships don't know JACK. I have a 5.4 Triton. You won't find a cleaner more taken care of 135k mile 5.4 3v. Oil change every 3k. Baby this mofo. Put cash in it on a regular/ Guess what? It ticks. Fuckin rocker arm. RU SERIOUS? FUCK FORD. Fuckem right in the...Do I have time to do it myself? Fug no. I'm sorry did you say 1800$ to fix Mr.Dealership man? FML

@@treynathaniel4075 Only GM uses Hydraulic lifters anymore. As most cars are Overhead cams. No need to soak anything. Just lube and go.

@@MasterChief-sl9ro TF? You special..first of all only gm uses hydr lifters? Er...wrong. The 5,4 has them. Secondly just throwing in a cam is a noob move. Sine its obvious there is no break in lube for the cam OR break in oil for the lifters in play soaking them will help. If you say OHC doesnt need it or a roller doesnt either ill virtually smack you

@@treynathaniel4075 Actually you don;t understand push rod lifters vsd Overhead Cam. As you can soak the Overhead cam lifter for a week. It only works when you pump it. Shim over Bucket has no such issues. Learn to read. Thank You

That's from their cheaper kits that don't include the OEM Cam Phasers. Right now the proper kit runs about $1200. They have a cheaper version with some other brand phasers they "say" are upgraded but seen a lot of failures. Go wath FordTechMakuloco.
