You spike it on 4th down, it's the other teams ball on downs. You have to remember too, a lot of these guys aren't in college because they are so smart. LOL. You were right about the laterals. @ 12:00 ~ Mostly correct. If the ball is behind the line of scrimmage, it can be thrown forward, so long as it doesn't cross the line, then come back. Once the ball has crossed the line of scrimmage, the only legal pass is a Backwards Lateral.

@ 18:46 ~ Right, there was only 1 second left on the clock. However they did not have any Time Outs left. The clock stops temporarily on a 1rst Down. My least favorite screwup on any level is dropping the ball when, or before, you cross the goal line. Every coach says, "Hold onto the ball the whole way, give the ball to the ref, then hug a fat guy on the O-line". The latter is not necessary to the play but everything else is. Seriously, take the ball all the way in! Notre Dame was famous for all of their players doing what later became known as the Tebow when they scored (go down to one knee when in the end zone like you're praying, which makes sense considering Notre Dame's the biggest Catholic university in the US with a football team; Tim Tebow was famously religious as well... but this has an advantage: you're establishing that you've made it into the end zone with control of the ball!).

It's actually in northeastern Illinois, very near Chicago. It's named for what used to be the Northwest Territory - the area that is now Ohio, Indiana, Illinois, Michigan, Wisconsin, and northeastern Minnesota. That area was indeed the northwestern-most set of states at the time Northwestern was founded (around 1850); the area further west was mostly territories that had not yet become states.

12:41 - Rutgers was losing by 7 points. It was 4th down, they didn't have any timeouts and there were only 4 seconds left. Rutgers only play was to throw a deep pass into the end-zone and hope their player caught it for a touchdown. Instead, the QB instead spiked the ball to stop the clock (incomplete passes stop the game clock). Since it was 4th down, Michigan State got the ball since Rutgers failed to gain 10 yards in 4 plays. Game over.

@ 4:45 ~ Northwestern University is in Evanston the Northern part of the state of Illinois. It is a private Institution which is mainly focused on Research & Teaching degrees. It is the oldest chartered university in Illinois. The university's main campus lies along the West Shoreline of Lake Michigan near the metropolitan area of Chicago. As for the game that took place in Dublin, Ireland; You may be confusing a couple of different match ups. Notre Dame is one of the closer Campuses to Northwestern, maybe only the University of Illinois is closer, as a Football opponent. However, Northwestern played versus Nebraska in Dublin, whereas Notre Dame played against Navy, there. As a matter of fact, the first game to open the 2023 College Football Season is going to be Notre Dame vs Navy in Dublin, on August 26th.

The nonchalant drop prior to scoring for Clemson is sooo embarrassing for them. Their opponent in that game, Troy, is a tiny school without a quality program and should be a gimme for a school like Clemson (and I guess this gimme mindset lead to such an attempted flex as he neared the end zone).
@NannerBrams

I wouldn't exactly call Troy a nobody. Especially in recent years, they have been quite a bit of a Group of 5 upcomer. They didn't do well under Chip Lindsey for a couple of years but they were 10 win seasons 3 times in a row under Neal Brown and they finished the season #19 this year going 12-2. Wouldn't exactly call them a pushover. And in case you were unaware, Clemson only won that game by 6.

@ramonmartinez7775 Жыл бұрын
17:45 in college if they get a first down the clock stops so no need to spike it or call a timeout. They had the chance to get the field goal team in the game to end it but they instead ran a play which ran the clock. In the NFL it is different, you do need to spike or call a timeout after first downs to stop the clock. The coach should know the situation and got the field goal team out there and got the players off the field.
@elijahfoster2
Жыл бұрын
This is only partially correct. In college, the clock stops TEMPORARILY while they reset the first down marker. The clock starts again when the referee blows his whistle. If they had a timeout, they would have called it, but they didn't. This is why they were trying to spike the ball, which permanently stops the clock until the next play. They tried to snap it and spike the ball as soon as the referee blew his whistle (to permanently stop the clock, until the next play, which would have been a field goal), but this was never going to be possible with just 1 second left. Stupid coaching to not have the field goal team run out there while the clock was temporarily stopped.

@danbaker300 Жыл бұрын
12:05 - you're only allowed one *forward* pass per play, but backward or sideways passes are unrestricted. A backward pass that isn't caught is a live ball, however, unlike a forward pass incomplete (which is dead at the previous spot). 12:40 - a common play in late-game situations when the offense is trailing and out of timeouts is to "spike" the ball (take a quick snap and immediately throw it into the ground). Because it's an incomplete forward pass, this stops the clock - but it also uses one of your four downs. Which is ... not smart if you're already on 4th. 18:41 - college rules temporarily stop the clock whenever you get a first down, until the ball is ready for play again. That's why the clock stopped at :01, and why it restarted when the officials declared it in play (and hit :00 before LSU even got the snap off).

17:50 LSU's coach at that time, Les Miles, became notorious for terrible "clock management" and screwing up situations exactly like this one. Of course, what could you expect from a coach who would actually rip up some grass from the field before games and chew on it?
Regarding the last one, the number of timeouts is limited. Often teams run out of them and have to resort to spiking the ball.
As A coach I would looses my ever lovin mind with the show boating!!!
Not sure if anyone has answered yet but Northwestern is in Evanston, Illinois . First time you hear it if you aren't familiar with college weirdness about their names you'd think it was in Oregon or something in the Northwest like Aidan said. But I believe it's meant to mean the northwest region of Illinois. Not completely sure but that's definitely where they are located. Used to be the only team I could consistently beat with IU on NCAA football lol. Love the college football content keep that coming! So many good videos out there. Kto has some bangers.

UT and USV Rose Bowl Championship is an epic game.
Northwestern is in Evanston, Illinois. North of Chicago. Norte Dame is right next door in South Bend, Indiana.
when you are on the field its hard to keep track of the time and the down all the time thats why you see guys spike the ball on 4th down or kneel with no time left etc. you dont have time to look at the clock all the time.

northwestern is in illinois . its a member of the big ten .
Game over.

The other important thing to point out is that a spike stops a running clock, but it costs a down. So you can't spike the ball on 4th down or you lose it.

Bro copy and pasted the wiki😂
The nonchalant drop prior to scoring for Clemson is sooo embarrassing for them. Their opponent in that game, Troy, is a tiny school without a quality program and should be a gimme for a school like Clemson (and I guess this gimme mindset lead to such an attempted flex as he neared the end zone).
@NannerBrams
Жыл бұрын
I wouldn't exactly call Troy a nobody. Especially in recent years, they have been quite a bit of a Group of 5 upcomer. They didn't do well under Chip Lindsey for a couple of years but they were 10 win seasons 3 times in a row under Neal Brown and they finished the season #19 this year going 12-2. Wouldn't exactly call them a pushover. And in case you were unaware, Clemson only won that game by 6.
It takes exactly 1 second for a spike play 😂
Yall got to watch the worst injuries in sports history. It's got pretty much every sport in it
In college the clock stops until the chain gang is in position and the ref spots the ball

Like Jenhalfblood said first downs
You have to have set the offense (completely still for at least one second) before you can hike the ball. So the technically they didn't have any time left on the last clip unless they let the play run.
Northwestern University is located in the northern outskirts of Chicago. Specifically that’s Evanston, Illinois:)
10:00 he might have been a freshmen. In a lot of highschool rule if you catch the ball in the endzone it's an automatic touchback. He probably hasn't adjusted to college rules yet.
I love college football because of the unpredictable nature of it.
6:04 This was on the compilation because the RB could’ve easily “took a dive” and fell at the 1 yard line, thus causing even more time to be milked from the clock in their favor.

The QB made a mistake, instead of throwing the Hail Mary on 4th down, he spiked the ball. QB's have to be aware of the situation going on around them.
@elijahfoster2

@elijahfoster2

@@Dayspring2099 If they had the field goal unit ready on the sidelines they would have gotten the snap off because the center would have just snapped it once the ball whistle went. But yeah, it was pure chaos all around
The reason many people have dropped the ball before entering the end zone is purely ego. There is no tactical advantage to even attempt it. Just taunting.
Army is the united States university for people to become officers. It's called west point.
I'm fairly certain that Florida did the exact same thing either the same game or another game same year but they weren't really that good that year if I remember correctly.
Some of these mistakes wouldn't happen to someone who started playing football right now lol
Illinois. But Go Irish (Notre Dame)
chicago.
The last clip LSU vs Ole Miss the clock only stops to reset the chains! Once the ball has been placed on the ground the referee will start the time. LSU should have gotten their FG team on the field to kick it. They wasted the time! Game over.
Chicago is where NW is
On the 4th and 19 play, it probably would've been better if he took the safety for 2 and kickoff thereafter than to rather give the opposing team a 1st down on the 2 yard line. In that case it would be at least be a 3 point field goal or an easy touchdown attempt at the worst.
@NoobGamer-co1ug

They get the 2 points and they get the ball so they could get up to 9 after the safety and a touchdown
its kinda upsetting to see my tigers on this 3 times
Spiking the ball with no time remaining is the coach's fault. Should be fired immediately.
So here's my question guys. I stumbled on some Tim/Tom Maguire and Lukako fuk up videos and was in TEARS. And I don't really follow soccer but knowing basketball and football soccer isn't difficult to follow. But what I wondered was WHAT HAPPENS TO THESE GUYS after the eff up? In American sports, a player, especially a professional, would be cussed out, benched and if the eff ups continue CUT from the team. But it seems like these guys just keep plugging along with no consequences whatsoever, and making tens of millions while doing it.
