I knew Aidan was thinking of UCLA. It won the NCAA basketball tournament in 1964, 1965, 1967, 1968, 1969, 1970, 1971, 1972, 1973, 1975, and 1995. It has been in 18 final four appearances. Twice runner up in the finals. Went undefeated in four years - regular season/March Madness. 23 times in the Elite 8, and 35 times in the Sweet Sixteens at March Madness. It has nationally ranked teams in so many other sports, and won a number of national titles outside of basketball, but basketball is what UCLA is known for. Daz is likely thinking of the Univ of No Carolina, which has powder blue and white as its colors. Most of UCLA’s basketball greatness was under Coach John Wooden, who was very well respected by the NCAA coaches. Many of his players are household names, even if you don’t follow basketball. The campus is beautiful.

Good job BigBilly (lucky guy!)--one thing though, NC is not powder blue, it is Carolina Blue. UCLA was my favorite BB team through late 60s, early 70s.

I forgot to add that when Kareem Abdul Jabbar, who played under Wooden, heard that Wooden was ill and in financial debt from his and his wife’s medical bills, he paid off his bills, and provided for Wooden for the rest of his life. In those days, college coaches made modest incomes. He also visited him regularly until the end. KAJ and other players still speak highly of Wooden and his wife, and the impact they had on them, as they were like parents to so many.

You guys don't know this, but the college baseball 64 team tournament is pure madness and fun too. The final 8 teams play every year in a beautiful stadium in Omaha, Nebraska. This year's tournament has been super exciting! ...By the way, Tiger Woods won the National Golf Championship at Stanford. Jack Nicholas played golf at Ohio State. A good percentage of tennis and golf college teams are filled with Europeans. My university, the University of Central Florida, also has great sports overall.
It's funny they threw in Stanford but made no mention of Tiger Woods, the face of their athletics

OB Daz is right, Michigan definitely should have been on that list. Not only for football reasons, but basketball, softball, hockey (most national titles)...and what have you.
Just as I started my comment UCLA was mentioned. In the 60s and 70s they won the NCAA championship in basketball 10 or 11 times. They had players such as Kareem Abdul- Jabbar( Lew Alcindor when he was at UCLA) and Bill Walton, two of the greatest basketball centers of all time.😊
No, we really say "Noter Dame".
I was ready to fight somebody if LSU wasn’t on the list 😂. Michigan is definitely an oversight. I would have put them over Stanford or Notre Dame. I think they’re given bonus points because they have great Academics.

Covering all sports equally weighted, the top two programs would be the University of Florida and Stanford. D1 FBS (football Bowl Subdivision) institutions must sponsor a minimum of 16 sports, while the FCS D1 schools must sponsor a minimum of 14 sports which the governing body (NCAA) has an end of season championship event for each one. The University of Texas baseball team has won 80 regular-season conference championships and 16 conference tournament championships in baseball. The Longhorns have won six NCAA baseball national championships and finished 2nd another six times. Texas holds the records for most appearances in the College World Series with 38 appearances. There have only been 75 CWS so we have made more than half of them. We are the second winngest team in the NCAA behind Fordham who have played for 36 more seasons than us, we are second in NCAA championships behind USC.
To not include Michigan is crazy. they have the most wins out of any collage football team. Which produced heisman players and many famous players including the GOAT Tom Brady! For basketball, they had many prominent players come from the team Including The GOAT Michael Jordan who also played on the dream team for USA in the olympics. D1 athletic schools bring in a TON of money for mainly football and basketball. Non sports fans will complain but they clearly don't know how basic supply and demand works. A coach might make 4 million a year but his program is bringing in 10x that. Keep in mind, any coach making millions is in the top .05% of their field. edit : Stanford is in Northern California and is easily on par with any Ivy league school in terms of academics. I genuinely don't know how they're always so good at football and basketball because the barrier of entry into the school is so high. Granted I know it's much lower if you're an athlete just as it is with any other school.

Yeah, Michigan should be top 3 and somehow wasn't even an honorable mention lol. Most wins in college football history (11 national titles, 44 conference titles) a top 3 winning percentage, a basketball program that is routinely in sweet sixteens and one of only very very very few schools that have won a national title in football, baseball, basketball and hockey. They are also by far the best softball program for teams outside of the south/west coast and their Olympic sports are elite. Michigan has had their hockey team, basketball team, baseball team and football team all in the final 4/championship game in the last 4 years. They just won 13 conference titles this past athletic calendar (a Big Ten record). All around I'd say the top 3 ATHLETIC PROGRAMS in no particular order are USC, Stanford and Michigan if you're not putting too much weight in particular sports. Florida is pretty overrated because of recent success (late 2000s/early 2010s) and championships in football and basketball in that short span. Are you kidding me Stanford in Florida what an insult. I nearly jumped out of me chair no it’s not in Florida it is in California. I live 45min from it.
UCLA won the NCAA Basketball Title more than any other college with 11. Including 7 in a row from 1967~73, 2 in 64 & 65, plus one in '75. They won their 11th in 1995. Until a few years ago UCLA held more than 100 NCAA titles across all sports (male and female) than anyother college. Stanford (near S.F.) passed them a few years ago. These are leaders... Stanford has 123, UCLA has 118 & USC has 107...4th place is Oklahoma State with 52. College winners are from California. UCLA & USC are crosstown rivals. PS: UCLA would have had 10 Basketball titles in a row....in 1966 the NCAA changed the rule that made Freshmen ineligible for varsity teams.... Lew Alcindor (aka Kareem Abdul-Jabbar) did not play in 1966..otherwise UCLA would have won 10 in-a-row.
