The Stanley Cup is actually the oldest trophy in at least the major North American sports. It weighs 35 pounds.

Having lived Vegas since 2011, this team and this win meant so much more. Their first ever regular season game was only five days after the 1 October tragedy that rocked the city. In the days that followed the players were all around town donating blood, meeting with first responders and the like, really ingraining them to the community before their first puck was even dropped. The team’s and their inaugural season success served as an uplifting escapist moment that helped us uplift and heal, and that led to the miraculous run all the way to the Final in that first year, where we lost in 5 to Ovechkin and the Capitals. Our owner made an initial promise that we’d make the playoffs in three years, and the Cup in 6. Fulfilled. Coincidentally he is also the owner of AFC Bournemouth, who Everton beat on the final match day to survive 😂

I'm born and raised in Vegas since '89. We never thought we would have a pro sports team here. We held on to the glory of the greatest win in college basketball championship history from '90 with the rebels. I grew up a huge hockey fan but a ducks fan because they were one of the closest teams and I loved the movies. Once we got the knights, not a team that moved from somewhere else, or was based on a movie but was truly ours came, I was sold. I've been die hard since day fucking one and always will be. This team is more than a hockey franchise, they actually helped heal a city after tragedy and that means more than sports or competition. The number 58 being retired for the victims and having all of their names in the rafters of t mobile arena is so awesome.
Vegas is hated because its been successful since day 1. So people try to diminish their accomplishments. This Vegas team though, would likely beat any of the last 5 Stanley cup winners. Objectively speaking. They're big, fast, tough, disciplined, well coached, and most of all theyre DEEP. They don't have one 100+ point player. But they have contributions from every single player on the roster. Theyre as complete a team as one could possibly be

Wont be able to keep everyone but I hope most will come back. Marchy, Stone, Karlson, and Stephonson (top 4 scorers) are back. As far as goalies, Quick might retire and Thompson, Hill, and Brossiot are all free agents.

I never hated Vegas. I hate Bettman for pushing for newer teams to win it all. What I mean by that is the way it's promoted. I'm not into referee conspiracies or favoritism. Vegas won because they were the best, plain and simple. I just wish the NHL wouldn't shit on older teams in favor of newer ones in their broadcasts. It makes national games unlistenable. And before anyone gets on me about Jack Edwards, he's not a national announcer. He's a Bruins announcer so of course there will be bias.
Been a VGK fan from Canada since they joined the league. I partied hard that night lol.
Connor Mcdavid had the most goals and points in the regular season, with 64 goals and 153 points in 82 games, second place had 128 points. Jonathon Marchessault won the Conn Smythe, as the MVP of the playoffs, with 25 points and 13 goals throughout the 2023 playoffs. And Mark Stone is Canadian btw :)
First, if you two take anything from this comment, it’s that you should react to the story of the Golden Knights first season. The Knights are way more than just a hockey team to this city, and learning about that story will put into perspective of what winning the cup meant. I was at this game, and it was the high point of my sports fandom. The crowd was so loud that I couldn’t hear the sound system at certain points. I was born and raised in Vegas and my family has season tickets for the Golden Knights. It’s been amazing watching this city transform into a hockey town, and getting to watch my Knights lift the cup in person on home ice was something I’ll never forget. Also, you can kick the puck, just not into the goal. There’s actually some hairy rules there, but just keep it simple. Can’t kick the puck into the goal.
Marchessault’s award was for playoff performance only, doesn’t take into consideration regular season
Stone is the first to get a hat trick in the cup clinching game since 1922 so 101 YEARS!!!!
Vegas is the second youngest team and the first is Seattle going into their 3rd season and the Panthers are the 7th youngest their first season in 1993
When the oldest band gets filled up with names they remove it to the Hockey hall of Fame. Then add a fresh band to the cup.

You can kick the puck as long as you aren’t kicking it in for a goal…
This was so great for our city of Las Vegas and all of Nevada!! VGK are badass!!!
Mark Stone's hat trick was the first in a Stanley Cup clinching game since 1922. As impressive as the scoreline was, this wasn't the largest margin of victory in a Stanley Cup clinching game. That distinction goes to the 1991 Pittsburgh Penguins who crushed the Minnesota North Stars 8-0 in Game 6 of that Final. It's tradition for teams to reveal the laundry list of injuries after the playoffs are over. My God, the Panthers were beat up. Aaron Ekblad has been playing on a broken foot since the first round! Matthew Tkachuk has a broken sternum. He had to be helped to get his equipment on, and just to get out of bed. Hockey players are a different breed.

It’s the most goals scored in a finals clinching game. Not the biggest margin like you said . But It is the most goals scored in a cup clinching game though
Seattle is the other new expansion team. They made it to the “quarterfinals” this year. Florida has been around for a few decades. Their only other SCF appearance was back in ‘96 when they got swept by the Colorado Avalanche, a team that relocated from Quebec.
Panthers just don't have the depth. They relied on 2 key players way too much. Their 1st line was all that was putting in work. Bobby was left out to dry so many nights. Add on the fact they they were what, 0-14 on PP. You cant win like that. Vegas was scoring shorthanded. The lack of depth and discipline cost them the cup big time.
That was a fun game.. Tickets were crazy expensive, a couple grand a piece but to see them and be there for them to lift the cup
Panthers have actually been around since 1993. For whatever reason, they just couldn’t match the urgency that Vegas showed all series. Always two strides behind. Compared to the other North American leagues, notice how the players get the trophy first?
The NBA finals and the NHL finals were strangely similar, 2 8th seeded Florida team versus 2 Rocky mountain West 1st seeds with the West team winning in 5 and being their first championship

The worst NHL & NBA finals I can remember, both blowouts and unless you live in Las Vegas or Denver nobody cared lol.
You can pass the puck with your skate. What you can't do is kick it into the net. A goal will be called back for that. But if it just deflects off a skate into the net its a good goal. What you cannot do is put your hand over the puck (aside from the goalie). That's delay of game. If you use your hand to push the puck to a teammate the play is just blown dead (no penalty). it was a great victory for Coach Cassidy who was fired from Boston exactly one year earlier.
Vegas baby - fan since Day 1!!!👍🔥🔥🔥
When I was at the game, it was such a good feeling to see them lift the cup
As a Bruins diehard this one gave me a little bit of sour grapes. I never wanted them to replace Cassidy. I mean, Montgomery crafted the best ever regular season that the NHL ever saw, but it should've been with Cassidy. I firmly believe that if Florida didn't bounce the Bruins in the first round and that they went to the final against Cassidy that the Bruins would've lost like Florida did anyway. This was the year of the Knights, can't take it from them.
Its crazy cuz this year, the panthers looked like workd beaters... but the Knights still had their number when it came down to the finals... crazy... the golden nights have only been a team for 6 years, and this is their 2nd Stanley cup win... that is unheard of... totally amazing

GO KNIGHTS GO
Love this reaction
Matthew Tkachuk fractured his sternum in game 3. He didn't play at all in game 5 (this game). Also, Radko Gudas suffered a high a ankle sprain and mild concussion in game 2. Radko was able to play all games, but he wasn't close to his normal self. Those are Florida's two most important players. I'm not saying that Florida would have won the series if it were not for those injuries, but it would have been MUCH more interesting. Also, you are allowed to play the puck with your skates, the only real limitation with that is you are not allowed to score a goal with a "distinct kicking motion".

They were both healthy for games 1 and 2 and it wasn't that much more interesting. Knights won 5-2 and 7-2. The injury angle is being way overblown, started by their own head coach. But I've got eyes. I saw what happened when they were fresh off an 11 day break.
Honestly it was a blood bath, the score makes it seem way closer than it was lol
We have a brand new profesional sports league here in the States - Major League Cricket! The first match is July 13th.
The only place you can't use your skate is while trying to score a goal. In other words you can't kick it into the net! Cheers
Hardest trophy to win in all of sports. Within Canada, the Stanley Cup is our Royal Highness - The KIng of All Kings.
congaratas on your teams championship...
I was there!
this is the first 9 goal game in a cup clinching game and tied for most in the Stanley cup series from a game in I believe 1996, may be off on that year though.
your allowed to stop the puck with your skate, its kicking the puck into the net that isn't allowed.
You guys should watch a Best Deflection goals video.
Second ball we call a rebound
VGK we’re one of the deepest teams I’ve ever seen!
The cup is the oldest and the panthers are an older team
You can kick the puck to lay it but you can’t kick it into a goal
Kicking the puck is allowed, you just can't kick it into the goal
Indy 500 cup You get your face Engraved On It
It's huge cuz they add onto it every year. It started as the top mini part as a legit cup lol but they add the names of every player to ever win it... Unlike the cups in football/soccer. They get to keep it for the summer only then when the NHL new season starts, they have their names put on it and wait for the next winners. Fuckin iconic
You can stop the puck with your skate but not kick it in the net.
who do you guys support in football?
Vegas Vs Boston final would have been epic but the stupid Bruins choked lol
Extraterrestrial Mob owns Las Vegas Now….smh 🙄🙄 Those UFO’s Visited and won Loads at the sports books in Vegas
This shows how 1 sided the expansion process is in the NHL. Las Vegas was the first team in the new expansion rules. The second was Seattle. 1 wins the cup after 5 years (Vegas). Both made playoffs right away. While they got to take their pick of players from every other team.
