Aiden was spot on with why they shouldn’t have been passing the ball in that spot. Less than two minutes and you’re ahead all you need to do is get the first down. You shouldn’t even consider passing the ball until third down

You forgot to explain why passing is a bad idea: 1. It’s easier to get an interception than force a fumble 2. The big one: incomplete passes stop the clock, which they are trying to bleed.

My favorite college mishap was seeing Louisianna Tech with 2nd and goal at Mississippi State's 6 yard line and turning it into 3rd and goal from their own 7. An 87 yard loss on the play.

When dooley was at UT we beat LSU in the swamp in his first season. I ran around the house screaming and cheering. I woke up to find out we had 13 men on the field, and during the next snap LSU won. I found out the next morning. horrible way to wake up.

l think it’s easy to underestimate the high pressure situations, esepocially with giants barreling at you. Quarterbacks (and the whole team, really) have to memorize an insane amount of information and plays every single week, so I can’t imagine keeping all that straight while still executing the physical stuff also. The new show quarterback on Netflix has a great episode all about the mental side of the position that shows a lot of stuff it’s easy to forget goes into it. Worth watching on your own time if you’re interested in learning the game on a deeper level!

It's hard to realize how much you have to think about in football, especially as the quarterback in a pressure situation. The guy who spiked it on 4th down has to think about the down it is, how much time is left on the game clock, the play they are running, if the defense is in man coverage or zone coverage, what formation the defense is in, and the snap count. It makes sense he might forget one. Unfortunately he forgot the most important one.

1:50 This was Kentucky's 30th consecutive loss to Florida, known simply as The Streak. Fortunately, nobody beats Kentucky 31 years in a row as Kentucky would end it the following season in Gainesville

Running backs are far more important in college because the quarterbacks and receivers aren't as good/developed/experienced/aged(take your pick) as the NFL. Running is the safer more consistent option.

In that instance…they needed to kill clock so throwing the ball wasn’t smart.

Running the ball on first down is a thing because you want to get the clock moving (dominating time of possession helps reduce how often your defense is on the field to give up points) and you will usually pick up 3-5 yards which will then make 2nd and 3rd downs alot easier to convert to another first down and you rinse and repeat as much as you can to at least waste as much clock as you can to keep your defense rested and not giving up points......teams that like to pass on first down often end up in 3rd and long situations which make converting alot harder and usually struggle wasting clock (incomplete passes stop clock) which usually forces their defense to be on the field alot and that usually leads to giving up alot of points.....which then forces you to throw even more to keep up with the other team abusing your tired defense......also a sack or holding call on first down makes converting even harder.. the primary battles in football are over time possession and field position.....generally on most possessions that dont end in a score, you want to waste alot of clock or at least put the opposing offense's starting position as far back as possible...doing so is almost as good as scoring on the possession.

The one at 9:40 would have been a safety either way. He was getting sacked in the endzone so if he hadnt thrown it out of the back of the endzone itd still have been a safety. Nothing he couldve done.

The pass play was not smart, because as you said, they were up 3 with a few minutes left. The reason you would not typically pass it has less to do with possible turnovers and more to do with the clock. Incomplete passes stop the clock, giving the opposing team the equivalent of a free timeout. On top of that, there is the higher risk of turning it over.

6:56 I was at that game, Garcia made the right decision there. The risk of an Alabama touchdown was too great if he tried to scoop it up and play on. Alabama did kick a field goal after receiving the ball but that combined with the safety still resulted in two points fewer than it might have.

The last one actually makes sense if the QB thought the defender at his feet had any chance of catching the ball if he didn't. A loss of yardage on first down is the lesser of two evils compared to a turnover. It's not like it pushed them out of field goal range either.

3:54 the announcer is wrong here. Intercepted yes, but since he got it out of the end zone and voluntarily went back in its a safety. Other team will get 2 points and the ball.
