    As a Liverpool fan I feel a little sorry for Rodgers, things fell into place and he shot to success in his 2nd season nearly winning the league. But it almost came too quickly, within 12 months Suarez had gone, Sterling had gone, Gerrard had retired and Sturridge started suffering multiple injuries. Some of Rodgers signings were bad but for a attack based team to effectively lose four of it's attackers in the space of 12 months, no manager can deal with that. Rodgers is a good manager but ultimately i'm glad he went. Liverpool being 11th place in the league and luring Jurgen Klopp to the club has to be one of if not the best managerial appointments ever. Rodgers is good but Klopp is the best and the reason why we are arguably the best side in the world right now, without even spending as much money as our competitors for that title.

    On the surface, it would appear to be complete mismanagement by FSG, but perhaps they had enquired about Klopp's availability during the summer, and were knocked back as he wanted a "sabbatical". And maybe, some time later, Klopp's people have told FSG he has had a change of heart. In that case, these are circumstances FSG had no control of.

    When you listen to the comments in this clip about the state of Liverpool at that time, it really is incredible what’s happened since. Klopp saved Liverpool and reinstated them as one of the biggest clubs in the world. That status, at least for the next 20 years or so, is secure.

    @@Johndoe-gf7eu you’re missing the point. Klopp took us from hovering just above the relegation zone and getting spanked 6-1 by Stoke, to being widely regarded as one of the best teams in the history of English football, and he managed to do that in just 3 or 4 years. A champions league winner and runner up, a premier league champion and 2x runner up, league cup winner, and whether we ultimately win it all or not, now potentially a handful of games away from being a quadruple winner. The point is we are now consistently competing for trophies, and to be fair, in any other era with these points totals and consistency when healthy, we would be walking the league every year.

    3 years later this has proven to be an exceptionally good move on Liverpool's part. 2 full seasons under Klopp 2 top four finishes, (one more than Rodgers managed in his 3 seasons, and they've also reached a europe league final, a league cup final, and the champions league final. bizarre to think actually looking back, the three managers who contended the breathtaking 13/14 Title race, Pellegrini, Rodgers and Mourinho, were ALL sacked in the 15/16 season. since then Mourinho's replacement won a title, (Conte) Pellegrini's replacement won a title (Guardiola) is it Klopp's turn?

    +adrian mckinty Liverpool haven't just become like spurs, spurs have improved and passed them out structure-wise. The buys that Liverpool make at present Spurs have stopped doing for a couple of years now. The idea of Liverpool bringing through academy players a list as long as Townsend, Kane, Mason, Bentaleb, Rose, Carroll and also integrating as many young players improving in sensible buys such as Dier (£4m), Walker (£2.5m), Alli (£5m), Eriksen (at £13m and a bit more proven still a steal), Davies (£6m), Trippier (£3.5m), Chadli (£8m) etc. seems far off. The only current spurs player who you could consider a current liverpool type buy is Lamela (£28m) - although Soldado and Paulinho would also had fallen into that catagory too if they were still there to be fair. But it would be fairer to say Liverpool's recruitment policy and club stature/structure is more like Spurs circa 2008, when £20m+ flops to try (and fail) to chase the champions league were commonplace. Even more damning that what carragher says.

Liverpool are a team that think they're a world class team but they're not and its been like that for seasons now. In reality they're a solid B rated team. Brendan did make some stupid choices with his signings, like how are you gonna replace suarez and sterling with players that aren't even of they're world class quality escpecially suarez, when he left, i was hoping we would get someone like Marco Reus, Robert Lewandowski or even Edison Cavani. I mean replace world class player with world class fucking players, not with a bunch of B rated players or even C rated players. To me its that fucking simple. Suarez (£65 million), then we got balotelli (£16 million). How the fuck does that make any sense? I agree with carra he should've got sacked in the summer.. becuase now we've let him get more B rated fucking players and not a single world class player.. smh.

    You seriously think Lewandowski would have left Bayern Munich for Liverpool? And that they would have sold him? Cavani? Get real, you said it yourself, Liverpool are not in that league. Any signing following Suarez's departure was always going to be a step down unless they'd signed Ronaldo or Messi which we've already established is just unrealistic.

    Nick Cockayne We came second in the league the season surez left, only three points away from actually winning the league. We were destroying teams that season. If there was ever a chance for us to get another world class player, it would have been then, we had the money we qualified for the champions league, we were in a great position then to actually sign great players. Lewandowski yes a bit unrealistic, but I definitely believe we could've got Cavani or Reus, plus suarez is way better than them and their more than a couple steps down from him skill level. Plus Balotelli was 100 fucking steps down from suarez. Tell me, do you think signing a bunch of players who have potential to be good players is better or actually signing players with real established quality?

    can't say it's entirely rodgers's fault... he truly has a great character (this is no joke), a cool headed, calm and professional manager who was very close to bringing a PL trophy to Liverpool 2 seasons ago... right now any manager will find it difficult to revive the club's title-contender status, especially after losing many key players who were the core bloodline of the club... hyppia, alonso, riise, carra, torres.. and now, suarez, sterling and gerrard.... the mishandling of the players' contracts which led to the departure of gerrard and sterling was rodger's biggest mistake imo... but other than that, the way he handled pressure, the media, his own players and staffs deserved some credits...

    I don't buy the argument that Rodgers was only successful in 13/14 because of Suarez, if you look at the stats their win percentage was just as high when Suarez wasn't playing. They were successful because of an immensely positive and exciting brand of football that Rodgers introduced. It also helped compensate for a very weak defense. Then suddenly he abandoned that philosophy and began playing a more negative brand of football, I have no idea why, if it ain't broke don't fix it. Liverpool made the right decision to let him go.

    Forgetting the legendary faces and hand-on-leg moment of magic, it's pretty interesting how, basically as a result of this move, and then everything that has since followed, FSG have pretty much addressed every single criticism (rightly) thrown at them by Souness and Carra. Almost as if they used this bit of commentary as a mission statement for how to turn it around. Incredible what a few years, a (fairly) modest net spend, and a ridiculously affable German coach can do!

  • @danielthompson6448
    @danielthompson64488 жыл бұрын

    The heart of Rodgers side when they finished second was Agger-Skrtel in defence, Gerrard bossing the midfield, Suarez, Sterling and Sturridge ripping teams to pieces at the front, they were incredible really. This season they only have Skrtel left, with Sturridge just coming back from injury. Henderson and Coutinho always play well, but the defence is a mess, Lovren, Sakho and Toure have consistently made errors, they bought Clyne and to be honest, i prefer Jon Flanagan, Moreno at left back is frustratingly unreliable. If Liverpool had gone on from 2013/2014 and improved the defence, bought someone like Begovic or Forster in goal and kept the disgusting Suarez another season, it would have been a different story, they'd probably be in the champions league now, attracting big names. But once you become a selling club it's hard to attract anyone Big.

    Oh Jamie, just shut up. Rogers came closer to winning the premier league for Liverpool than any other manager in the premier league era. He inherited a mess of a club, who were in a downward spiral and he gave them an identity and got them playing some beautiful attacking football that was both entertaining and effective. Yes Liverpool have been poor for the past few months but can we please stop this "We would've been better without Brendan" nonsense. Say what you want but Rogers proved that he was worthy of being the manager of Liverpool so let's not argue how he got the job in the first place. And honestly, Liverpool are just not good enough to be in the top 4. It doesn't matter who the manager is, the players just aren't that good. They cannot compete in the transfer market with United, City and Chelsea and they'll never have a manager like Arsenal Wenger who can spend 1 million in the summer and still make the top 4. Please lets drop these delusions of qualifying for the Champions League every year and accept that we're far from that position. In fact Spurs are much better than us at the moment.
