Breathing exercises for anxiety
The breathing exercises for anxiety I share in this video will help you not to feel nervous or self-conscious! Does your breath feel shallow or tight? Then you’re probably not breathing correctly!!
Correct breathing will produce a deeper more resonant sound, giving you more projection to your voice and overall the authority and presence you need to become a better speaker!

Oh dear jimmy, Oh dear jimmy why did i not come across your channel before. You're a game changer, it's surprising how voice can change so many aspects of an interaction, to get the point across, confidently. I thought I was born with this shallow cringy voice of mine until I discovered you can actually train it. Now i'm going to spend some time with your videos, just know that there is someone extremely thankful for your contributions. Much love Jimmy

Welcome to my channel Fatehveer, I hope you get a lot out of it. Jimmy
You’re amazing! I’ve never been afraid of public speaking but finding my breath while speaking was always a challenge for me. I would breathe through my nostrils and gain very little air pathway making it hard to articulate my words. These exercises taught me to breathe utilizing my diaphragm and recover and control. Thank you so much

HAAR10M thanks. If I can make people laugh, my job is done....
Glad I stumbled across this video, I’ve had anxiety for around 7 years and I get very nervous when engaging in conversation with people, mainly because my voice either breaks when speaking, pitch changes or straining my voice because I feel I need to in order to get the words out. And for the most part it’s holding me back big time, I work a dead end job I hate simply because I lack confidence and have a nightmare speaking to people. I’m still not good at being loud or shouting but after 7 years I used the first breathing technique of taking full breaths and my god I genuinely thought it wasn’t even going to work. I managed to talk to a fair few people in a normal voice for once and barely had any issues. The main problem now is, I’ve been breathing incorrectly for years for some reason or other but didn’t have these issues before the age of sixteen, I’m now 26.. I’ve been taking shallow breaths through my nose for years and it hasn’t bothered me until I realised I’m not taking in enough oxygen to my lungs. Not sure how I can try to make this a permanent habit because it’s hard at the age of 26 learning how to breathe again lol. Thanks for the video, really helped.

My pleasure. It's actually very simple to speak louder and with more confidence. The thing about anxiety is that the more we do, the less anxious we'll be. Please check other videos on my channel, and of course, consider subscribing :)

@@jimmycannonvoicecoach I think I’m still going to struggle, sometimes I find myself holding my breath after taking big inhales thinking my voice won’t be as strong if I exhale straight away. It’s like learning how to breathe all over again. To be honest i don’t think I’m ever going to be the loudest person in the room but having the confidence to do it does help a lot. I’ll subscribe and will check out more videos. I’ve been struggling with this for years and literally only just spoke to my mum about it and how it has been affecting me. I felt like I was out of answers but this seems to be helping. I never actually realised I was taking shallow breathes all the time until now.

@@jimmycannonvoicecoach working on some of these at the minute, I just feel inferior to other people and struggle a lot with being loud or engaging in conversation and can’t put my finger on how to fix it, I don’t get this happening anywhere near as often with family. So I think it’s an anxiety thing, but I’ve had these habits for so long I’m not even sure myself if I can break them. I’m trying to talk slower take more deep breaths, but knowing my voice is going to go bad before I even speak knocks my confidence to even open my mouth in the first place. Thanks you for the videos though I’m going to definitely try some of these techniques.

Hi, thank you for your very constructive tips shared in your videos. I speak English as second language. With the exercises in this video I can maintain a better support, they seem to strengthen my head voice. but the problem is that with head voice articulation becomes hard for me. I do 'nay nay exercise' which helps me tune into my chest voice, but in chest voice I lose the power to project my voice. Seems I can't maintain staying in mixed voice. another problem is that when I do warm-up exercises my placement changes a lot which makes it difficult to build up speaking muscles. I would appreciate it if you think there is a solution to my problem to give me tips, I'd be willing to have private lessons. Thanks again.

Steffy Justin I’m glad you found my video, and yes breathing correctly will definitely have a direct impact on the amount of air that flows over your vocal folds. Breathing from your throat so to speak will cause tension. Please let me know if I can help in any way... here’s my website where you can find more information: jimmycannonvoicecoach.com

Jimmy i have had very poor breathing speaking for years it has seemingly come to a place where i seem to have turned into this unable to turn off my anxiety like pooch and hardened belly , i now have trouble relaxing it on my command and it has turned into anger/ fight/ flight a very sad confused state of mind , where i don’t know how to begin, i sometimes work on breathing., but, get so frustrated and my brain gets all these voices how to breath, confused causing more anxiety.. Any tips.

Hi Jimmy I realized that when I practice by myself I can breathe deep and project my voice but when I am to speak to other I hold my breath. Do you have any tips ?
@jimmycannonvoicecoach
2 жыл бұрын
Hi there, thanks for your comment. I would suggest that it's speaking to others that is creating a somatic response and shallow breathing is the result. It will take time for it to be ingrained in your system, but start with small conscious decisions to, for instance, take a breath through your nose before you start a conversation, and build that up to in-between passages of speech until it becomes natural...
