Shortness of Breath Speaking: How to Stop Running Out of Breath When Talking

Do you have shortness of breath while speaking?
The shortness of breath while speaking can happen while talking, during public speaking, and during social interactions.
What causes shortness of breath when speaking?
It comes down to a few variables.
One potential reason for shortness of breath speaking is because you are creating more topics in the interaction.
When you are creating more topics, mental faculties are required. With the mental faculty, you have to deliver the idea as well.
Being the creator of topics is much harder than just contributing. Shortness of breath while speaking can happen when you are graduating from a contributor to a creator.
Another reason shortness of breath can occur is due to disjointed body parts. Which is a pleasant way of saying, get in better shape!
Few ways to get in better shape come down to going to the gym, talking with a workout mask on, doing yoga, and such.
These few methods will prevent you from running out of breath while talking.
Also, these methods will help you improve your communication skills on the public speaking stage as well.
Take some time after watching the video as to WHY you have shortness of breath while speaking.
By knowing the WHY it becomes much easier to execute how to stop running out of breath while talking.

I've been a musician since I was a kid and have been singing in front of people since I was in my 20's. But since I started leading worship, I've find myself getting winded while I'm talking during the service, but I'm perfectly fine while I'm singing. This makes perfect sense now.

People don't really care about it as much as you think, you're here thinking about it, but it's extremely likely that no one else is thinking about it. You have made your first impression already, people make mistakes in presentations, it's normal for many to feel nervous. Even those who perform well can tend to be nervous but they just hide it well. Many people who presented in history have done worse than you, some fainted in front of people. What makes a person successfully and tough isn't just succeeding, it's being able to take the hits and keep on moving. Don't worry about it, use it as motivation to improve yourself and become the best version of yourself. People most likely won't think of you different, they'll likely forget it and we are normally more harsh to ourselves than others are in feedback.

Actually really helpful. To realise being a creator, walking the fine line between knowing and not knowing, feeling the audience without loosing yourself, embrace breaks to think.

I’m currently going through one of these transitions into a “creator.” I would consider myself a contributor out in public, and a creator in private. I don’t talk much or generate conversations at work or social settings. Even around my parents. I’m more reserved. I’ve noticed recently when I want to inform my parents on something that I’ve learned, I’ll start to speak and about 10 seconds in, I’m running out of breath and feel tense. I am very active, play basketball and go to the gym, have a job where I’m walking all day, so I know it’s not a physical endurance problem. This is a brain wiring of not having those previous connections of being able to articulate thoughts into long sentences of speech. I think this all boils down to being out of your comfort zone. Your identity shifts into the daily habits that you do day to day. If you are not thinking and actively speaking these thoughts out into coherent words, then your brain is not used to doing such. You have to force yourself to start speaking out loud, around people, and start having intellectual conversations with people where there is more talking being done by both parties. Without this, you’re stuck with your short responses and boring conversations. And if the problem is that you’re scared to speak out, you’re never going to improve. We all have trauma and been conditioned to not speak at times or always got interrupted so we shut up and listen. I was the same. I am now taking actionable steps to shift my identity to someone who can actually articulate his thoughts into beautiful and meaningful speech.

I've for long faced a short breathe while talking with someone when there's a situation emerges that as long as keep on talking, it kinda start feeling choking for me inside. This has caused me to avoid talking multiple times and often made me nervous when to appear in front of masses, like for delivering a presentation or conversing with a group. My lips starts drying up and my mouth gets stiff. Things have many time messed up because of this and I start getting anxiety a lot.

I have this problem. My speech has become out of breath. I breath hard. I know I have an anxiety disorder. My speech really got bad after my divorce. The stress was almost unbearable. I was also prescribed a beta blocker to lower my heart rate. I don’t know if that is a contributor. I am now tapering off this beta blocker - “Propranolol”. I don’t know if I need medical exams to find the problem. But I will follow your tips. Thanks for your video 🙏
