I remember watching this World Cup live on television. I was so pleasantly surprised by how well that French Men's National Team played! They won the title in front of their home country fans! I was so happy for France! Brazil had won the title just four years earlier in Pasadena.

Zidane's performance two years later, in Euro 2000, was even better. Top of his form. I would recommend to watch the semi-final against Portugal. Zidane was SUPERB then!

This match was the best football match ever watch at the time, Zidane was a super hero and the lagend he completely destroyed the mighty Brazil of that era.

Watched the first half of this match in a Magrebi restaurant in Grenoble during my very last studies' year, before watching the rest on a big screen. Zidane first goal's reaction was unreal. The tension was so palpable before. Would have loved a Netherlands-France final, Bixente on one side, Overmars on this other one, can you imagine? Met Deschamp's parents back in 1999 during a wedding near Bayonne where I'm coming from, such a pair of humble and lovable people

I was 10 living in Mexico when I saw the final. My grandpa, rest in peace always liked Brazil. A year after he passed away. The World Cup is not just futbol, it's family memories and joy what we live.

R.I.P Mario zagallo, it’s crazy he already became an elderly in the 90s but still feels like he lives on forever until now. What an amazing coach he is.

This World Cup final wasn’t easy for both of them it was a really hard games with a lot of surprises.

Look at both Zidane's headers. He came late to the ball and Brazil players did not expect that. I know goalscoring is not his primary skills but leaving a player like Zidane unguarded is a mistake. His positioning was on point. Amazing player.

i like how respectful all these world class brazilians towards their runner up medal. they kept them over their neck and kept on smiling. nowadays so called 'superstars' straight away pull their medal out in front of the cameras / vips.

Got goosebumps when commentator shouts zidane after each goal.Greatest French team ever.Excellent commentary also.

This is my first world cup final that i witnesses at my 13 years of age at that time, such a great memories.

this was another golden generation of Brazilian players---made appearances in three successive World Cup finals (1994, 1998, 2002) and won two of those three ! can't think of another team that had that record (may be Uruguay in the 1930s?)

What a fantastic and glorious victory for France!! I'm British, a 'Rosbif' and an England/Leeds United fan but I have to say France were fantastic in this final, finally realising her incredible potential. France continue to set an example to the World with mind boggling skills, tactical skills and innovation, unbeatable mentality and,of course, vitality,passion and drive. I feel France can win any tournament they partake in and set an example to the rest of the footballing World.

I was 9 years old when we got satellite TV at home. First scenes were of Arsenal beating Barnsley back in 1998. Viera and Petit were in the side. So was Overmars and Bergkamp. Became a Gunner at that moment. After the French beat my home nation South Africa 3 - 0 in the group opener I new they would win this thing. South Africans love Brazil so I was dismissed as too young to know football. Even when Suker gave the Croatians the lead I knew the French would be back. Also heavily favoured the Dutch due to the Arsenal influence. Greatest World Cup ever. A France v Netherlands final would have been the dream final but with the Zidane masterclass in the final that was the cherry on top. Great times. Must have been a jump in Paris after the match

On 2016 France hosted Euro and reached the final once more. This time, they missed out the title to Ronaldo (but Portugal) in this stadium after extra time. Luckily, they won the World Cup again in Russia with Deschamps being a coach.

It all started with the French team from St Etienne in the 70s, that gave momentum to the National French team at the beginning of the 80s, who inspired the team at the end of the 90s, who then inspired the current generation. Petit was France best player during this WC, no doubt about it, especially with Zidane missing 3 games. Such a fitting ending seeing him score the "cerise sur le gateau" goal in extra time. Only thing missing in his final, was Ronaldo being at 100% of his capacities. He was such an extra terrestrial player at the time. His UEFA final performance against Lazio a few weeks earlier was so impressive...

My first World Cup, the most wonderful World Cup

The last World Cup final played with world renowned superstars right through both sides. I could still name both these starting 11’s 25 years later.

These were the days. World class players all over that pitch. Never get this many great players on the field in todays boring game.

The issue isn't that there aren't great players the issues is the standard in the modern game has improved meaning there is less of a gap between the best players and the middle-of-the-road players which means the great players don't stand out as much even though they are actually better.

@@cjm-nd2mn ok, it's nostalgia, I can understand that, same for me with World Cup'82. Now take note of the Greatest World Cups ever: México'1970, England'1966 and Germany'1974. Mexico'86 and Spain'82 were also fabulous tournaments, but those three mentioned were the golden age of football. Since 1990 the quality of the majority of the games in the WC has dropped enormously.

few things are more pleasurable in life than watching brazil or argentina lose a game. They take it so seriously and are so ridiculous in the importance they give this game their losses are incredibly sweet to watch. Just a little reminder that soccer is not as important as they believe it is.

here is the path that led me to this video: - seeing the trailer for the new netflix film "mank" which is directed by david fincher - being curious what cinematographers david fincher has worked with over the years - finding that darius khondji was the d.p. on finchers second feature film "seven" - being interested in what other films khondji has shot - discovering that he did cinematography on a documentary called: "zidane: a 21st century portrait" - wondering if zizou had ever won a world cup.... and voilà!!

Just imagine beating this Brazil team 3-0. France were something special that day. Brazil were clueless about France defence. They were that much sensational in the final.
