After independence from Yugoslavia, this was our first World Cup, and we managed to reach the semifinals and later get the 3rd place. What a fantastic Croatian generation that was: Šuker, Stanić, Prosinečki, Asanović, Boban..... And Šuker won the golden boot. I hope my Croatia will continue to play great football in Qatar and to reach as further as possible. ✌️✌️🇭🇷🇭🇷

It has been more then 24 years since this match. I was ten years old, and I still, to this day, cannot bring myself to watch it beyond Suker's goal. It's traumatic beyond belief. World Cup Russia 2018 was a godlike year for Croatian football, but the 98' tournament (and that generation) was what dreams are made of.

Amazing for a country (Croatia) that came into existence in 1991. In 2023, I'm watching this match just to see the legendary Algerian, Zandane. Thank you FIFA for uploading for all of us to view.

The dangerous looking game played with sticks. The fastest team field game in the world). My point is he didn't look like a footballer to me. But my goodness he could play! What a shame Cantona fell out with the national team. Himself and Zizou together would of been magnificent!

I remember this match, best start ever in a second half. I think that Lilian Thuram for the second gol could be proclaimed as a national hero in France... isn't he?

Lovely brings back so many memories. I watched all these matches live. Most people think Zidane did nothing in WC1998 besides the 2 headers : watch this and the previous round against Italy which had Maldini Bergomi Cannavaro Pesotto Albertini in defence. Zidane was the midfield maestro throughout WC98 he and R9 were a cut above.

i'm japaese. Japan played against croatia in group stage. At that time croatia won against japan. japan national team was first time played in the world cup.croatia is really strog because they were went to semi final.

Et meme pas 1 minute apres, c'est vraiment incroyable. Quand la France a cette mentalité dans le foot, cette mentalité de vouloir de gagner comme en 2018, elle est impossible a battre. Mais le probleme de notre mentalité, c'est qu'on joue d'abord pour ne pas prendre de but afin de ne pas perdre, et tant mieux si on marque. Si on jouait un peu plus pour gagner et non pour ne pas perdre, on aurait gagné deux-trois coupe du monde en plus.

You got that right! Don't get me started!!! I speak very little Spanish but watched the WCs on UNIVISION in 1978, 1986,1990,1994,1998, 2002, 2006. The only reason I have been suffering through watching the American broadcasts the last several years is because I watched the last few WCs with my best friend/boss who controls the remote.

And Prosinecki one of best players back in the day sitting on the bench. No one knows why.. 😔

I think the french squad, would easely toast today's french squad. It makes no doubt to me. We were superior in everyway. Zidane, Lizarazu, Deschamps, Thuram, Barthez.. It was well balanced. Strong in defend and very versatile in offense. 98's defenders would handle Mbappé and Griezman easy and Zidane/Djorkaeff/Henry would punish them so badly.

Yeah it's the same. He won the World Cup as France's captain in 1998 and as France's coach in 2018. He also won the Euro 2000 as France's captain. This guy is involved in 3 out of 4 main trophies for France, the other one being the Euro 1984 won by the french team of Michel Platini

Bilic was a trailblazer in terms of selling fouls and injuries. He was a looked at as a villain back then. Nowadays it is commonplace and happens dozens of times en every game, nobody would blink an eye. How times have changed.
