Crazier than Lampards' non-goal is also 1966 Wembley where England cheated against Germany with 12 or 13 field players for few mins, paid refs and received a goal by the ref where the ball clearly was in front of the line, not behind it inside of the goal.

I really hope I will see this kind of football of Germany in my lifetime again. Since 2017 its been mostly horrible. It was incredible how Schweinsteiger, Lahm, Özil and Müller exploited the free space and it looked so effortless keeping the ball. Frank Lampard is one of my all-time English fav players and it was great to see the chat and shirt exchange after the match with Bastian.

Watching Prime Ozil and Muller brought back so many beautiful memories!

Finally I could watch this game complete, back in those days I was in an Olympic hangover and I didn't remember how fast Özil could run or maybe were his boots with the swoosh hehehe. Terrific match.

Portugal against Holland - "The Battle of Nürnberg" - in the 2006 World Cup, please. 16 yellow cards and 4 red cards in that game which was quite a bad-tempered contest between those two countries, where the referee had absolutely no control of what was going on at all. It even made the infamous "Battle of Santiago" game between Italy and Chile in the 1962 World Cup look more like a schoolboy quarrel. The Portuguese and the Dutch were not exactly the best of friends on that day in 2006. Hardly boring, though! 👍😁😁😁

Bio Nic 1998 France winning side also struggled in the 2002 world cup. So of the last 5 world champions the only defending champion country to make it past the group stage is Brazil! 2006 they lost in the QF’s vs France. also don’t forget Brazil make the finals in 1998 and THEN WENT ON TO WIN in 2002. 1994 Germany also lost in the GF’s after winning the 1990 world cup against Argentina!

We were absolutely shocking. This was our worst tournament I saw overall. No passion in the team. No cohesiveness between the players. We barely got through a group with USA, Slovenia & Algeria. As soon as I saw we were up against Germany I knew we were finally going to be exposed for what we really were. Even if that goal had counted (which it clearly should have) it would have made no difference. Argentina also would have smashed our doors off if we'd got through either way. Thank you for knocking this embarrassment of a team out.

That missed called goal certainly took it's toll. England hustled hard to equalize, and 2 of Germany's goals came on counters when England over pressed. It is what it is though, Germany was truly the better team.

It was not a clear goal at all from the referee's perspective. That's what matters. Englands' Wembley 1966 goal vs Germany was VERY clearly NOT a goal from the referees' perspective though.

And yes we do know how the game would have gone even with that english goal. They would have still lost the same way only with 1 goal more with the scoreline being 4:2 as Germany outplayed England nonetheless before and after that Lampard shot. Or do you think that the German players' mentality would have completly crumbled simply because England tie the game making it 1:1 ?? Really?

I was heartbroken when Lampard's goal didn't count, he's one of my favorite players of all time if not my favorite. I remember having predicted that Spain would win this World Cup, I was working at a Hospital's cafeteria and some of the football loving doctors came to the cafeteria to watch matches and ask me for stats and who will be winning this game. Schweinsteiger was easily the best midfielder in the world cup (not considering 10s), easily bossed all the knockout matches except against spain where khedira was suspended, they probably would have won with no injuries since they lost the midfield battle. I forgot about how great of a match this was. Wonderful watch for sure! Though I'm a German fan so that helps but neither team won that year so in the end it didn't matter anyhow lol. Whoever is posting these matches, THANK YOU! Since we gotta wait 5 more months for the next Cup, I'm watching these like crazy to get me ready since it's not running right now like it normally would be. Thanks!

Watched the German forwards in a friendly in Detrroit back in 1984. They explode forward and go from one end of the field to the other in seconds. Long passes. Virtually unstoppable in that mode. Amazing to watch.

Then when it hit's the bar again, it changes back to the ball Lampard kicked initially. So technically, this ball never was behind the line in Bloemfontein. Very skillfully spotted by the officials!

Funny but in all honesty it must have been really hard for the officials to notice. It all happened so fast, so close to the line and the side-line official was too far off the goalline. Also yet no goalline technology implemented during that time.

Superb goal by Lampard and Teutonic dishonesty by German goalkeeper.

That was a model blitz-attack from Germany in the second half. WOW !

What a game it was, it is still enjoyable, eventhough it has been 13 years ago. Both teams played with passion to go through to the next phase of the competition. The German played more collectively and rewarded with the 4-1 victory. What a generation! What an excellent match! This game would also contribute to the drastic change to the world football, with the introduction of VAR, due to the Lampard's goal disallowance. Football game is no more the same anymore.

One of my favourite matches!!!

Every one of the thousands and thousands of people in the stadium and the millions watching on tv could see that Lampard's shot bounced well over the goal line. Only two people in the entire world did NOT see this - the referee and the linesman.

This is absolutely not true. I remember exactly how everyone was looking at each other asking if it was in or not, right when it happened. Nobody knew it, it was after the fact with different camera angles and slowmotion that the truth was revealed. The linesman does not stand there and stare at the lines for 100 Minutes straight he does also watch the game progression and this went so fast that by the time he turned his head the important part was already over. According to the rules he did everything correct, if he did not see it it did not happen. Get over it that is how soccer was until the cameras came, it was over the line but it was not a goal by the rulebook and the ref did as he should....

@@thf3038 no they didn´t they saw what they wanted to see as even thee reporter stated right off the bat that it looked like it was in but we cant be certain until we see the slomo replay. Considering all the different camera angles this is a very true and factual assertion as it could look in for one but also not in from another angle. This is also true for all the people in the stadiuzm as they are all watching from different angles. Stop trying, nobody said it was not in but in the mist of war you sitting in your comfrotable chair in front of a widescreen tv set trying to compare your sight with the man standing there live and expecting him to see eeverything that is happening all at once and making the perfect judgment call is just unreasonable from your side.

They said 'that was in that was in surely that was in' with the surely bit meaning surely they have to give the goal. They showed it from the linesmans angle and the refs angle at the end and it looked very in.

@@thf3038 nobody said anything else we all know it was in but that is not the point of the discussion. I also never said we did not see it cross the line, dude dont twist the words of the discussion this is about if the ref had to see it in the instant it happened and I like many others say no. Talking about what we know in the aftermath after seeing it in slowmotion in replay and what not is completely out of the question. The point is simply that pretty much nobody actually knew in that instant what had happened until it was shown in the replay. Off course all germans said no and all brits said yes but sur was noone and it is telling if you cant be honest about and put the blame on the ref.

Now it's ok, once you loose once you win, it's a football field not battlefield (it kind of resembles it;), but loss in the 40s last century on real battlefield, this would have been a real disaster for UK and the world😉
