WOW!! Julien Baker...I used to work at guitar center off Stage rd/64 (outside of Memphis) and she was a youngster in there buying up effect pedals. I remember helping her often bc she had really good taste in pedals and knew her gear! Congrats to you and all your success!! Love the cover and it appears you're surrounded by AMAZING SOULS 👏

Such beautiful voices in exquisite harmony, but I do wish they'd given the violinist credit in the description. Her contribution is an important part of what makes this performance so special.

A good song is a good song
im late to this but lucy in the upper register for the second verse is PEAK
Also can we pause and just appreciate the hell out of Camille here? The violin (I think? *tips head* could be viola) just MAKES this song and I always have this half-idea that they're like "hey, do you know this song?" and she's like "I mean, if I don't, I'll make something up" because it literally feels like she can improvise along with anything.
I was a huge Dixie Chicks fan and they continue to hold a very special place in my heart to this day. This was always one of my favorites of theirs and hearing boygenius, one of my all time favorite bands ever, cover it is nothing short of heaven.
Julien's SMILE IS EVERYTHING
I often wake up with country songs from my childhood; my mom's music; stuck in my head. Usually it's infuriating, soulless, overproduced Nashville pop country. Sometimes it's the Chicks or other great stuff. Whenever it's this song, and it often is, I'm glad. And this is the best version of it I've ever heard. Fantastic.
@arthurmead5341

The best version was the original
I am ready for a full cowboygenius country album
Just when I thought Julien Baker couldn't get any better she goes and does this.
I think I fell in love separately with each of them at different points during this song
The dark hair singers part is just so Dam beautiful
This is an unexpected crossover but im here for it.
The album ‘Home’ from the (Dixie) Chicks is one of best country albums ever.
I could listen to Lucy sing all day. I love them all
My job is really stressful these days and playing this song on repeat calms me down
This is a stunner. Also I don’t own nearly enough personalized blazers.
the giggles at the end bubbled somewhat awkwardly over my aching heart. So beautiful. Each voice incredible in its own way: Julien touching, Lucy angelic yet powerful, Phoebe cuts like a knife.
this... is the greatest thing I've ever heard. It's almost infuriating. This was on KZread for me to enjoy for a whole SIX DAYS before I found it????????????? Unforgivable.
All three of them have such amazing voices
I said, I wanna touch the earth I wanna break it in my hands I wanna grow something wild and unruly I wanna sleep on the hard ground In the comfort of your arms On a pillow of blue bonnets In a blanket made of stars Oh, it sounds good to me I said, cowboy take me away Fly this girl as high as you can into the wild blue Set me free, oh, I pray Closer to heaven above and closer to you Closer to you I wanna walk and not run I wanna skip and not fall I wanna look at the horizon and not see a building standing tall I wanna be the only one for miles and miles Except for maybe you and your simple smile Oh, it sounds good to me Yes, it sounds so good to me Cowboy take me away Fly this girl as high as you can into the wild blue Set me free, oh, I pray Closer to heaven above and closer to you Closer to you I said, I wanna touch the earth I wanna break it in my hands I wanna grow something wild and unruly Oh, it sounds so good to me Cowboy take me away Fly this girl as high as you can into the wild blue Set me free, oh, I pray Closer to heaven above and closer to you Closer to you Closer to you Cowboy take me away Closer to you
These girls kill it. Gorgeous and they can actually sing. Nice! I love it. The red lipstick girl is amazing.

If you want to check out their solo stuff they’re amazing! The one who starts out singing is Julien Baker and she has a very sad discography (I’d recommend everybody does and appointments). The second girl is Phoebe Bridgers and she’s more folksy artist (I’d recommend Scott Street and Smoke Signals). Lucy Dacus is the red lipstick one and literally everything she does is gold!

She is Lucy Dacus. Wonderful voice. And further to the comments below, check out the Brooklyn Steel Pitchfork Live Boygenius concert on KZread from Nov 2020. Each of these gifted artists performs a 30 minute set of their own material with their own bands, and then they come together at the end as boygenius and perform their entire EP. It is magical to say the least.....
It's Julien's smiles for me 🥺
LUCY ARE YOU KIDDING literally heavenly
I saw Lucy Dacus perform at First Avenue in Minneapolis last year. The show was amazing, and because she had an injured back, she had to either sit or lie down through the entire show. If boygenius goes on tour, I will be there!
Julien Baker's voice is angelic.
The way Phoebe smiles at Julien singing/playing the beginning is an entire mood.
Isn't this just beautiful and etherial? And not so different from the original? I love when bands can make something sound like them without also not making it NOT sound like the song we're familiar with. That's artistry.
We need an official release of this
And two years later, The Chicks noticed this cover!!!

their smiles have my whole heart melting ... there is nothing more perfect than this
Julien's look at around 0:20 is insane.
I hope we never live in a world where there is not a place for these ladies
How lucky for us these ladies found each other to come together as a very talented group. And they even have fun doing it! 💖💖💖
Youngsters! It's your world now.
Those little giggles at the end of the song just help emphasize that those absolutely amazing musicians are just young girls. Blows my mind how good they already are!
This is so outrageously stunning. I’m completely blown away
This is absolutely amazing. They can sure harmonize. Brings tears to my eyes...
The Holy Trinity.
Beautiful cover and definitely lives up to the spirit of the original!
Why have I never seen this before-
When Phoebe smiles at the start of the song, just shows how kind and beautiful she is.
best cover of all time i think
I think I've listened to this 100 times in a row by now. Well, not really, but it sure feels like it. This is damn good.
I have no idea why this showed up in my recommended...but I'm glad it did!
Everything about this is mesmerizing: their voices, the sounds, all of them.
