Crazy to me how "Fast Car" managed to stay relevant after all these years. It's a testament of how beautiful and poetic Tracy Chapman's songwriting and performances are. Seeing her perfomance at the grammys made me cry. This song will continue to reach new generations and audiences because that's just how timeless it is!

@@redshot1015 That's actually not a lot of musicians. I think the point was that the overall performance was stripped back with the vocals of Tracy and Luke being forward in the mix. It's one of the rare occasions where the Grammys live show actually got the mix right. It wasn't flash, or bombastic, or overly produced. It was just a very simple, competent performance by two talented individuals. It was, for a lot of reasons, the best performance of the night.

35 years and still sounds good Thank you Tracy ❤.
You know what I like about this duet? You can tell that Combs respected Chapman immensely. You get impression that he knows he's singing HER song, and that he's singing WITH her. It seems like, when new artists attempt to perform songs with the original artist, the new artists is performing the song like they wrote it.

Even when he re recorded it he kept the same story and everything including the “check out GIRL” part which always gave me a chuckle hearing his burly voice say but I knew (and own) the original
Luke has treated his covering of this song so gracefully. He's paid respectful homage to Tracy's art and introduced a whole new generation to her greatness, never trying to portray ownership of the song one time. I've been a fan of Tracy's for so long, and I'm a new fan of Luke's, I'm just so happy for them both.

In this day and age we need more of Tracy Chapman and Luke Combs their performance was so touching it is a therapy for our sick Nation
Luke Combs is the only one that Tracy Chapman has allowed to cover this song and he did a phenomenal job and with them both on stage he looks at her like am I doing it right because he wants to do it perfectly because the song he grew up loving by her it's probably one dream that finally came true other than being a country music artist

There are other well-known versions of this song, including the very successful versions by Tobtok and Jonas Blue. Are you saying that they were recorded without Tracy Chapman‘s permission?
I don’t watch the Grammy awards because the music I listen to usually isn’t featured or awarded. But, I heard about this performance and finally got around to giving it a watch. All I can say is WOW. I saw Chapman perform when this song was originally released and it’s great to see a new generation discover it. The lyrics are timeless and will probably be rediscovered by succeeding generations.

What i love about this song, is I'm old enough to remember when the original came out in the 1980s, and I loved it, but also love this newer updated version ❤ what made me love it even more is he managed to get her to come and perform this song with him live on an awards show, which she rarely does...it made for a magical moment in my eyes ❤❤
