Just noticed the DSP shows the Dolby logo and DTS. It's not mentioned in the manual, but it may support DTS. I will try it out later. Thanks again for your vids.

@@razenby Unfortunately, no DTS support. DD is ok. I used a soundbar to check DTS was outputting and it wasn't (it was PCM). Changed to Audio>SPDIF via VLC and DTS was being output. Connected to the BOSE and no sound. DD Yes, DTS no. Shame as the chip is capable.

The Texas DSP chip is probably OK but it is all about the timing. I managed to resurrect some Bose products with an emulator via JTAG. I haven't had time to do a deep dive on this product. If there is a boot loader present I haven't managed to find the code in the FLASH. The DSP is a BOSE custom part number which is not recognised by my development system and it wont cooperate. Likely Flash corruption. It is probably a standard TI part with a custom ID blown into it. Check 1.7V and 3.3V relative rise times VS reset.(See generic datasheet for the DSP). On some you can get them to boot up by holding them in reset longer or slowing down the rise of one of the DSP power rails. Usually if you warm it up and it starts OK it is an indication that the latter approach may work at room temp. Good luck.

@@razenby Thanks for the feedback. Unfortunately, it will probably be returned to customer as not repairable unless I get inspiration before the weekend. Shame, as I think that the hardware is all good! I seem to get a lot of this type of problem turn up where all the signals and power are good on the processor but the processor does not appear to be running any code.

Magic Smoke, I have the same Bose Solo TV Speaker main board that you are working on in this video. The problem with mine is that I am not getting any power into the unit. As I plug the unit in, I get nothing, no sound, no lights, no nothing. Bose says they no longer support this product and I feel that perhaps the problem may be a simple power supply component that has gone bad keeping the 120 v from moving through. I work in Biomedical Electronics but I have been unable to find a schematic or enough information concerning my main boards issue in order to locate the faulty part. Can you help. Thanks Brandon

Would you happen to have any repair info on the Bose Cinemate home theatre system? I believe mine is the old original Cinemate 1. It does not have a separate power supply board like the Cinemate II and the power transformer connects directly to the main board. On the back side there is only the power cord and 2 9-pin serial cable like connectors, one for the speakers and the other for the interface and no volume control for the sub like on the newer models. As far as I can tell, the power supply section is working as I'm getting 5V and 3.3V in the digital section but the issue I'm experiencing is that the interface unit LED is not lighting up at all. It's supposed to be Red in standby and Green when on, and there is absolutely no response from the IR remote control at all, which is the only way to turn it on. I've verified continuity in the cable and the indicator LED is pretty much a direct connection to the main board. Based on another KZreadrs suggestion, I also tried replacing the IR sensor to no avail. I can't even find as much as a schematic or service manual online. Please let me know if you have any info or suggestions. I would greatly appreciate any assistance. Thanks!

Sound like it isn't booting. Check for what Bose call dendrites on the Sound processor board. These aren't really dendrites but just bad board manufacturing due to lack of cleaning. Tiny brown stains or crusty bit that don't belong. If you see any check the continuity if you can determine where they go. Usually on power rails. These show up as brown stains around via holes. Locate the electrolytic decoupling capacitor of the 1.7VDC DSP core supply rail to the DSP and change it. There is a SMD choke in the power line that gets crusty dry joint. Stop the main clock on the DSP until the power has stabilized and see if it boots.

Do you think the problem is laying inside the main IC chip? I found exactly the same chip on the internet and I'm keen to try to change it. At least it will be a good soldering practice to solder 100 pin chip imo. My unit is not turning on at all. It has 3.2V on 6th pin and after pushing the remote button it is dropped to 2.4 so I assume the signal is correct.

Hello, I exactly have the same Solo Tv sound system with the same Mainboard and the issue is really similiar. I have the 24V DC available at the output of the power supply and also the input from the IR-receiver on the microcontroller (pin6) is perfectly working (perfect signals measured by oscilloscope). Also both crystals are perfectly working with the correct frequency and a fine sinusiodal signal can be measured. Nevertheless the Soundbar unfortunately doesn't start up at all (no LED, no sound, also no flickering noise, absolutely no startup reaction). Therefore I am also searching for your proposed video with the solution of your repair. What you also mentioned is a bias-voltage that can be adapted. Where to do so? I haven't been able to find the mentioned videos. Can anybody please provide any hint what else I can try to get the device working again? Thank you very much in advance.

I am not sure that they are that clever. They incur a great deal of warranty costs and a somewhat bad reputation. Having managed a team of development engineers for nearly 20 years, I would say they often don't do reliability testing , do the math and have their designs appraised. Often I can spot the likely fault causes just by looking at the schematic. It is that simple.
