Klipsch R-20B soundbar repair!
How to repair this model of soundbar that turns on but makes no sound. This is one possible cause but given the reason I'd say many of them will suffer from this.

Thank you for this video. This is the same exact problem with mine. I've had this sitting in a closet for years and just decided to see if I could fix it. Thanks to your video it's back to life. Your a legend!

Thank you very much. I also changed the dsp audio processor because the glue is brown I thought it damaged the chip. After I saw your video with the help of microscope found out the resistor was apparently burnt so I changed it and my klipsch is alive again thanks to your video.

Excellent. I've not yet seen glue cause damage to a chip. I guess it could happen if it was in a high voltage area. Well done though!
Well, another satisfied "customer". Yep, it was the same resistor! What I wasn't prepared for was how small it was. I had a lighted magnifying glass and used the finest tip soldering iron I had which wasn't made for this fine of work - but it worked! This was the first time I've worked with surface mount electronics. I could not believe how small the resistor was. At one point, I dropped it from the tweezers I had holding it and took a while to find it. If the connection fails again, I'll probably just solder in a conventional 1K resistor. Thanks!

Well done for giving it a shot! I've lost so many small components to the carpet.
Wow, your video is bang on. Same problem with mine. Didn't realize that resistor was so small. Lost it as it came off. Needing to take to a shop anyway as too small for me to tackle. Thanks for the video.

Glad I could help. I'm sure they can fit a new one for you!
What a great video! Mine just started doing the exact same thing. Looks like I will be opening it up! I bought it brand new in 2016 and yes it did come with a wireless powered subwoofer.

Thanks. Hope you figure it out!
I have a R-10B with no sound and I'm getting its pretty much the same layout. I got it free and was told it worked but no it doesn't. If this would fix my issue haha to him. Thanks for the video. Now I have direction.
Thank you! Just repaired ours, exact same issue. 🙏

Do you remember where you got the replacement resistor and the part number?
Nice repair
The resistor certainly was cooking, I would have been tempted to swap it for a through hole type to increase the heat dissipation.

Yeah I thought about that after the fact haha. It has lasted all these years though so should be good.
Hello, thank you for your informative video. I want to ask you electronic part codes which used on U504, Q500, D503.
damn that resistor runs pretty toasty the new heat camera is great :3

Sure comes in handy 😊
I’m having the same problem with my R-20b should I take to a certain shop to get it fixed ?
Thanks! This was very informative... I took mine apart and had a hard time noticing any loose resistors or anything like that. BUT I did notice that the yellow glue is VERY dark brown in a lot of places throughout the board... I'm guessing it has become conductive and is the source of my issue... Is there any fix for that, or is the board shot? Thanks in advance!

If that is the problem simply scraping all the glue off should resolve it.
Jonny- Ty for the walk through. I have same system. I know this is a little older system but worked great. I went to the Digikey website but is there a part number for the resistor you used? or Would Amazon have this part? Looking forward to fixing this and getting sound with a small cut out for Heat venting! Thanks again !

Look up 1000ohm (1k) and size is 0805 I think. There will be a few part numbers it won't matter what one you choose.

Well done, high speed repairs Ltd :-D Ooow did you work out the current flowing through that 1k? I wonder if they skimped with the wattage of there resistors. Yes of cause they would lol.
@JonnyFix

It's dropping 24 V to 3.5 across it so unless I'm wrong 20.5v/1k=20mA = 420mW.
@zx8401ztv

@@JonnyFix 420.25 mW or 1/2 a watt in normal sizes. I wonder if a capacitor on the output of that resistor is a bit dodgy, creating a semi short sometimes, 24v across 1K would be naughty lol
Great video! I have a very similar soundbar (R-10b), but mine will work for a bit and then suddenly drop sound entirely. Sometimes restarting it will fix it (but only temporarily). Any thoughts as to what may cause that? Has anyone else encountered something similar?

@@lefamily8290 I ended up taking it to an electronics repair shop and they basically did exactly what this video demonstrates. There were a few bad resistors that needed to be replaced but it works like new now.

Do you have a link to where you picked up that replacement resistor? I tried ordering one online but it was physically too large.

@@Dankasaurus6 I thought you were joking because there is no way a small resistor is too large to send. You can try RS components or digikey or element14 or mouser or ali express. You may have to pay a shipping fee.
Hey there. Awesome video. Definitely pointed me in the right direction though in my case the resistor seems to be fine. Measured 1kohm between the pin on the resistor and the solder joint on the neighbouring component. Reckon you could tell me what the components are that are lined up next to the speaker connections (the ones with the conductive glue on them). This appears to be my problem but am having trouble identifying the component

If you mean the dark grey ones with 220 stamped on top, they are inductors and almost never fail, you should measure low or 0 ohms resistance on their pins if they are ok. Why do you think those parts are bad?
@user-vl1pk6kp4f
Жыл бұрын
@@JonnyFix those are the ones. Measuring 40ohm on one of them, most likely an issue caused by the glue becoming conductive. Also seems to have lifted out of alignment with the other inductors. Worth a shot. Thanks again for the video. Excellent guide to repair of this device

The thing that grabbed my attention with it was it was visually different. Lifted out of alignment and very dark glue on top. When measuring the 4 components, I got a zero reading on 3 and the 40ohm reading on one of them. I figured different = bad
@JonnyFix

@@user-vl1pk6kp4f I doubt the glue would have caused that, must have got quite hot tho. The glue can be scraped off and any problem it's causing will go away. Keen to hear if you get it working and what else may be bad!
ill send you mine 🙂
Yep my Klipsch is exactly the same as what you’ve just fixed and that sounds like the same thing to me. You pay so much hard earned cash for what you think of nice things but the manufacturer is crap. Klipsch never again!!!!
