Boat Deck Modification 14ft Aluminum Boat

Спорт

This is a video showing how I built a front deck on my 14ft sea nymph aluminum boat. It has made a world of difference while on the water and exponentially increased my storage space. Enjoy watching and please subscribe and comment below. Thanks!

    Pro tip: Use a counter sink or pre drill your holes to not split your 2x2.

    I have the same boat and I am changing my deck as well because of rot! I toyed with the idea of a front deck also but since I take it out off shore in the Atlantic I think it is probably better I stay low! But you did a great job! I like the carpet.

    I just got an old 14 foot Appleby Vee hull and I wanted you to know I got a ton of great ideas from your video! Thanks so much for sharing! The previous owner cobbled together a floor but he used plain 2 X 4's and plywood. The flooring and frame are already waterlogged and swelling. I am going to strip it down to the bare hull and redo it using redwood for framing and medium density overlay plywood for the floor. The plan is to waterproof all the wood with either oil based enamel or redwood stain. I like your hatches and rod rack and hope to incorporate them both in my boat. Thank you also for mentioning how you had to redo the hatches to allow for carpeting. Not everyone man's up to there mistakes. You did and told how you fixed the problem. And it looks great! Thanks again for your ideas and video!

    nice setup. I'm gonna get a 2013 tracker guide v14 this comin weekend and will eventually do some sort of front castin deck as well. these little aluminum rigs are so customizable its great. I have had Boston Whalers, really nice ones but i'm goin back to a simple tin boat with a 9.9.

    Nice Build. You've already got a flat bottom which makes your build quite easy. Most Deep V's don't have that. I would guess that I'll have to build that up first and then do the upper deck build.

    With 2 X 2s, you HAVE TO pre-drill or you'll split the wood every time. One trick with cardboard, just do half a side a time. When done with both sides, tape them together when you're done. Its less hassle. With your hatches with your 3/4" cut, you also had to compensate for the hinges. Nonetheless, EXCELLENT job sir!

    Hello Viewers! I have a favor to ask. I just received word that KZread will demonetize this channel in (Feb 20th, 2018) 30 Days if I do not reach 1,000 subscribers by that time. This channel is really close to that number. If you like the videos i have produced please subscribe. This isn't my full-time job or anything, but the very small amount of money these videos produce is used to create more content. I have some awesome videos in the works that I will publish regardless of what happens, but I do appreciate the support! I really want to keep this channel growing. It has helped a lot of people. Also, I want to water proof the plywood with something? Anyways, how thick of plywood did you use for your deck? Oh yeah, you just convinced be to put a stereo in also. Great Video! I am looking for my first boat, mostly for me (5'10" 200lbs) and my 9 yr old son. Sometimes, my brother will be in there too, 5'8" 275 lbs. Will be fishing mostly small lakes/old strip pits at a private fishing and hunt club, but I also want to take it on a river, Fox River in IL, to get to spots that I have been unable to wade in the past. Ironically, one of the boats I was looking at was the exact same Sea Nymph FM146 you modded out. I came across your video because I was wondering how to mod a deep V. I was originally looking at Flat Bottom Jons, but the Sea Nymph is in great condition and comes fully loaded at a great price. My question is, how stable is your boat when you are on the deck and someone in the back? Any different than a 1448 Jon Boat? I was thinking of placing the height of the deck exactly where you placed your to line up with the side box, so NOT all the way to the top like yours. I was just curious how your mod effected the "center of gravity" when you fish from the raised deck.

    The boat is super stable! I fish with 1-2 other people in the boat a lot and I feel very comfortable on the front deck. I think it is much more stable than a John boat with a deck.

    One more question for you. I see a alot of people use the pvc pipes sticking up on the sides of the trailer, is that to help guide the boat unto the trailer? Any info would be great. Thanks again

  • @bluelineangler8450

    @bluelineangler8450

    3 жыл бұрын

    Its most helpful while backing up the trailer when the boat is not on the trailer. My trailer is small enough that it disappears behind the truck when I’m backing back down to the ramp. The pipe are really helpful to see the trailer in that situation. Also helps with the boat, but that’s not the main reason. Hope that helps!

    @@bluelineangler8450 Oh now that makes perfect sense. What size thickness did you use for your plywood decking? I am leaning on 1/2" because 3/4" seems to be to heavy. What did you use and how is it holding up? Thanks!

  • @bluelineangler8450

    @bluelineangler8450

    3 жыл бұрын

    @@k.toddweaver6584 yeah, pretty sure it was 1/2. It’s holding up well. I would seal the plywood with something if I did it again. They make marine grade sealers, but even some heavy coats of paint would work. That being said, it’s held up great. No issues, but the wood does soak up some water in heavy rain, etc. I would just seal it with something to make sure if I were you.

    I second this question- I am also curious to what hinges you used and how you were able to HIDE most of the material of the hinge- most all the lid hinges I've seen online are your standard 3" or 4" hinge that shows so much of the metal on TOP of the carpet. Nice CLEAN boat you have there!

  • @bluelineangler8450

    @bluelineangler8450

    7 жыл бұрын

    Hey guys, for installing the hinges just lay the lid of the hatch upside down at the edge of the opening oriented the same way it would open. The hinge to the INSIDE edges of the opening and lid. When you close the lid the plates of the hinges are inside the crease of the lid only exposing the round edge of the hinge. Use STAINLESS STEEL or ALUMINUM continuous hinges. I used stainless steel hinges from Lowe's. Hope that helps! Glad you enjoyed the video.

    If you’re thinking of decking an aluminum boat don’t use wood, pay a little more and use aluminum with rivets. After a while wood will eventually get saturated with water, swell, warp and rot. Aluminum will be lighter and last forever.

    While i do agree with this, at the time did not have the ability or the money to build with aluminum. I've had this boat for 8 years now and the Deck is still in great shape! well worth the time and effort. If wood is what you have avilible, i'd still encorage folks to do the build.
