I just had a family friend give me a 66 mirrocraft 14 ft v hull boat. It's gonna be my first boat build and restore. I'm excited to do it for me and my 7 year old son. It seems like it's gonna be a very stressful job. I kinda have OCD and want everything to be perfect. So many ideas going though my head.
This video inspired me to redo my 40 year old 12ft aluminum boat. good job guys.

nice work boys!
Solid work. Looks really good.
Kudos to these young guys doing this, haters are gonna hate, but its just jealousy, keep at it guys, I'm 71 years old 6'1" 240 lbs and am modifying my 14 foot semi V hull 15hp evinrude, and I love doing the modifications, I guess I'm just a big old kid , but love fishing, catching and cooking the fish. Awesome videos guys.
Love the paint job!
Great job!! I was just looking for ideas to paint and redo the seats on a boat I have like this one, but now I’m thinking about doing something similar.
Finally a video on the same boat I have, can't wait to do the work on mine come spring! Mine says Spectrum HD1400 by Bluefin
Awesome guys!!
Good times. Those headlights are perfect for flounder/frogs/ bow fishing.👍
Awesome work.
Great job guys! Keep it up
Nice work! Well done!
You guys are great love it when his in the hatch boat looks real good
Great Job! I'll follow your lead on my 12Ft V boat. Thanks
I really like how you put your switches in a tool box. Awesome job overall 👏 👌
You guys did an amazing job
Nice work guys!
Super job! I'm working on my 14ft boat also.

Good job guys
Great work man!
Good work!
Just watching it late after the release, but great job fellas!! It really was a great boat to start out with, but every improvement was worth it! I have watched several (many??? Haha) of these boat conversions or refurbishments and you popped into the algorithm. I’m glad to see it! I always thought the shark motif from the A-10 absolutely belonged on the front of many of the utility boat conversions like this and now you did it!!! Excellent job! I’m an old fart, maybe even old enough to be a grandfather to you “young whipper snappers” heh heh, but am very glad to see how you you spend your time. This conversion now means more time on the water! Also a great thing. I must admit when you were trapped in the storage area, I broke out in a sweat myself!! Hate tight spots like that. I’m thinking he owes you a burger and fries for that!!! Tell him!! Haha. I see there is an update video so that’s next! Thanks, Eh!
Amazing
Great job
Awesome job....
I've been working on some of my aluminum boats and was looking for inspiration. This looks sick!
Great video you guys! 👌
Wow. I am doing a 16ft Sylvan. And I like the use of space you did. Came out good guys. I like how you braced the hatches underneath. And how you turned a Skif into a nice fishing boat.
Awesome!

Awesome Job Guys! I just bought a project boat and would like to know where you guys bought that light switch Bar? All the lighting? The Hinges for compartments? Did you brush the paint on the whole boat ? Where did you pick up Carpet? What brand of glue did you use? It looks like you also stapled Carpet as well as glue, is that Correct? Front Bow lights? Blue lights ? Small interior white lights, can you say where you got all these supplies? Did you use 5/8” or 1/2”plywood? What did you water proof plywood with? Thanks in advance!! And again Great Job👊🏻👊🏻
I wish i never found this channel lol , I’m itching to find a 14-16ft aluminum boat to do a build on . I’ll probably look for a old 14-16ft starcraft that’s a closed bow with a windshield and then remove the windshield and cut the front making it a open bow because boats like you guys have cost the same or more as a older starcraft of the same size here in canada and those starcraft are tanks ,very well built . I can get one for $3k or less just hate to butcher one up being there classic boats but with the closed bow you lose so much space . . Love the channel and can’t wait until you post new fishing videos with the new boat you just finished
How do you only have 660 subs you deserve more
Hey guy. I’m impressed with what you did with the boat I’ll be using some of the knowledge you gave me for my boat. Just one word of advice tone down the enthusiasm. Other than that great job guys!
great job guys, how did you support the front deck at the bow? It didn't look like there was any existing support to begin with. Thanks
@MissionForFishing
4 жыл бұрын
We reinforced the bottom of the deck with furring strips and cut the front as close as we could to the shape of the hull. Because the hull tapers down at the front, the deck applies pressure to either side due to its shape which keeps the deck from sagging in. Its holding up very well and we have not had any issues with it yet.
I think I saw your boat on the road near Monticello a couple weeks ago Love the sharks mouth
Big idea what I'd you put a livewell in that spot in the back next to the driver. Just get a cooler, an arearor, pump, drill some holes and connect the lines.
Looks killer! Great work guys. How did you set up the seats? Should do another vid on the fish finder and seat setup when you finish!
@MissionForFishing

That video should be coming in the next few weeks!
how did you support the very front of the deck in the at tip of the boat? I have similar boat and only thing up there is the bolt for the winch hook.
@MissionForFishing
3 жыл бұрын
The deck is cut to wedge against the sides of the hull. It wasn't my idea but it gets the job done. I personally would have riveted an aluminum strip to the side and bent a tag end which would stick out from the hull to screw and support the deck.
Awesome job guys. I just bought a 2022 14 foot mirrocraft and looking for ideas .
Did yo used special marine paint or normal automotive metal paint? did it stick up good on the boat? I'm looking for restauring my similar boat, thanks from Quebec
@MissionForFishing
4 жыл бұрын
We used industrial grade enamel paint by rustoleum. It holds up much better if you sand off the old paint first and get it on the bare metal.
Hey fellas, Great job on the rebuild! I just bought the same exact boat and was curious if you guys kept any of the dimensions for the deck you guys made?
@MissionForFishing
3 жыл бұрын
I don’t believe so as we had to modify quite a bit of it from the original plan to fit.
Looks great guys. Question, when water gets in the boat from rain or out on the water, where will it drain ? There does not appear to be a clear path under the decking to drain.
@MissionForFishing

If I remember correctly this was an issue that was usually remedied with a dry towel.
sweet Jesus. Nice boat.
Y'all did a fantastic job the boat. How much extra weight did you add ? Will you have to increase your horse power, can you without going over maximum rated HP to boat size ? Really great looking boat.
@MissionForFishing
3 жыл бұрын
I think when it was all said and done it totaled to be around 150 lbs. The boat was slow to begin with, only having a 6 1/2 horse Johnson so I believe the top speed dropped from 9 mph to 8.
Seriously nice job guys very very cool how does the paint hold up
@MissionForFishing
3 жыл бұрын
It holds up surprisingly well, but it can get scuff marks if something metal rubs against it with force. Otherwise it is some crazy tough stuff and work great on both boats and trailers!
Pretty dope guys. I'm about to leave to pick up a similar boat. Gave me some inspiration. thanks. any chance you guys have a break down on the average cost you spent for materials?
@MissionForFishing
3 жыл бұрын
All of the materials used totaled somewhere under $250 dollars.
around how much did it cost you to do this renovation? looks great !
@MissionForFishing
4 жыл бұрын
I think when it was all said and done the final cost was under $200 dollars.
Install a longer hatch to store the fishing poles under the deck. & rod holder's
How long did the paint take to fully cure and hardened I painted my boat with same paint and it seems like paint might not hold up to good
@MissionForFishing
3 жыл бұрын
We gave the paint 24 hours between each coat as suggested by Rustoleum. If the coating appears to not harden correctly, I would check the humidity/temperature of the environment, or consistency within the can (can be fixed by stirring the paint in the can for a few minutes before application). Multiple coats and a good clean surface to adhere are also critical to the adhesion of the paint. I hope this was somewhat helpful.
Nice job dudes. Was that a deep v? Or Just a regular 14ft aluminum?
@MissionForFishing

Deep v
Nice job on the restoration! How well has the paint held up?
@MissionForFishing
2 жыл бұрын
It held up pretty well, it was very resistant to scratches and dings but started to fade after a year. Nice thing is if my buddy ever wanted to touch it up he had half of the original can to do so.
If you do something like this again, you could use painted styrofoam boards to section off hatches and it would help with stability and add to the reserve buoyancy if you manage to swamp it
What did you use on the plywood to seal it? (the "salmon" stuff)
@MissionForFishing
2 жыл бұрын
It was some generic stain and sealer. Its more so to seal the wood than stain it, but even good quality paint would do the same thing.
Any advice?? I found a boat the other night, yes found. It was placed next to my dumpsters but it is in fairly good condition, i assume its aluminum and there were two paddles inside. I’m not really sure where to start with this project weather it be sanding or what if you have advice or any links I could look to for help it would be greatly appreciated. The assumption to why it was tossed away is that maybe they just had it and didn’t want to put the effort in to fix it up or they maybe got an entirely new one all together and didn’t think this one was worth selling.
@MissionForFishing
4 жыл бұрын
I would first check for a hull identification number as the boat will need to be linked to your name for current and future registration with your specific state if you are able to keep it. The WORST thing you could possibly do is to put time and money into it only to have it revoked or even worst be accused of stealing the boat. I would contact your fish and wildlife management officials and report the boat or ask for the owners contact information to ask them what is going on. I had a friend not to long ago have a similar situation arise where they found a boat off in the woods not far from a boat ramp that was clearly abandoned. Working on boats is a lot of fun and a very rewarding process at that, but certain rules and laws need to be followed. I would hate to hear of you undergoing potential legal repercussions just for working on a boat. However, with all this said I think it could be something worth pursuing even if you cant keep the boat in the end and I wish the best of luck to you!
How did it fish? It looks like you changed the center of gravity. How stable is it with three guys fishing. Thanks
@MissionForFishing
2 жыл бұрын
It was actually pretty nice to fish in. We had three guys in it on one occasion on some big water and I remember we were pleasantly surprised that it handled about the same as before.
Great work guys! One question though, is it not really top heavy to have a deck up that high and dramatically altering the centre of gravity on a small tinner like that?
@MissionForFishing
3 жыл бұрын
Good question, the deck actually helped with stability overall. My guess is from the additional weight below deck from the added storage space. It surprised us when we first tested it out, so after scratching our head that's about all we came up with.

Very incouraging, not to complicated, but with nice results, good job..now go find another v hule and do it up too so all you buds can go yank some fish out of the water, together.
Amazing boat! you guys crushed it! I just saw a video worrying me a little about making sure I put enough sea foam in the boat if I add wood. How safe and secure would you say your boat feels after having it for awhile? I feel like if the weight doesn't exceed the boats weight capacity your fine right? Everyone I see making these boats seem to be doing fine with very minimal foam and doing fine with the pink foam sheeting under floor boards.

Thanks, we’ve never had a problem with weight and decking yet. The pink foam is great to throw under deck is you feel it needs more flotation.

The decks are just sitting on the stock bench seats but it would probably be advantageous to lower them a few inches.
I love Minnesota almost all my relatives live there and have since the 1800s. What area do you guys live in? In 1996 I caught a twenty pound forty-seven inch Northern Pike up in Ely.
