Blizzard CEO Mike Ybarra defended Diablo Immortal endgame's P2W gambling by insisting you can play 99.5% of the game w/o paying. My brother in christ, if it takes 30 hrs to beat the campaign & 10 years to achieve endgame max gear, you've paywalled 99.9% of the game. It really and truly is. You don't grind out 100+ GRs, or 100+ Baal runs just because. You do it because you want better gear, even if it's only 1% better that's still 1% more than you had. And you never know when you'll get lucky or find an item you never even considered. For example, I got a primal Blackthorne's pants off a rift with physical %, int and vit. Roll on the armor and suddenly I have a beautiful piece of gear for my LoD Mages Necro that I wouldn't have even considered otherwise, despite me now thinking it's better than the Hexing Pants of Mr. Yan. You certainly can't get that from paying for it. The rush and the feeling of happiness can never compare.

Well, I would say a lot of people don’t play through the end game on games, but Diablo is one of those franchises in which *most* of the game is the endgame. Blizzard knows what they are doing. The game is basically greed central for their core audience, but using the excuse of the casually interested player which will dip their toes, not pay a cent, and quit to try to excuse themselves.

As a Genshin Impact player I often hear: "Isn't that that really predatory mobile waifu game?" But I've never spent a cent myself, and the only thing I've never been able to complete with my broke free-2-play ass is the absolute pinnacle of Genshin's endgame: 9-starring floor 12 of the Spiral Abyss. A single, tiny one-room time trial mini game! Mind you, I've been able to beat it! Just not within the time limit to get the max rewards. Even got 6 stars once. But the difference is negligible, and it only resets twice a month so it's maybe 0.001% of total gameplay? So for anyone to say " YeAh BuT iT's OnLy ThE EnDgAmE!!1" about Diablo, a franchise that has always been basically OOPS! All Endgame! seems completely undefendable to me.

"You don't have to buy anything, nobody forces you!" This is basically the excuse i hear every time i bash those predatory practices. What i reply is the same everytime: did you ever play a game that said you will have to Grind for 10 years straight to even fight the final Boss or beat it on the hardest difficulty? No. And that is exactly the point. It is one thing to give you a short boost when you buy anything, while the rest of the game is balanced enough to make it through the end with genuine effort and you just bypass something minor. That's what makes it fulfilling and then the microtransactions are helpful, but not particularly necessary. That's what they were originally for! But if you HAVE to buy something to even reach the endgame, otherwise you will be forced to shave off YEARS of your life... that's wrong, and just there to take your money. Plain and simple.

And when you look it from their point of view, they are indeed doing what they are supposed to do: offer you a service that doesnt cost them too much to keep, didnt cost them too much to create, and then milk players as much as they can, even if it is predatory (which it is). This isnt just a problem with Activision Blizzard. They're the vanguard and they're being upfront about it. The system is the problem. As long as "profit" is the only metric, they will do this again and again and again. And people are still buying. There is a big problem with the company, yes, but there's also a big problem with the consumers, the streamers, the industry, and the system itself. We could 100% make it so that this was the most disliked game in the history of gaming (which might as well be at this point), but as long as they keep raking money, the rest will be meaningless.

I started playing Path of Exile a few days ago, so naturally I've been recommended a fair few videos relating to the game and I've found it incredibly engaging and respectful. One such video was a short clip of PoE CEO Chris Wilson doing an interview talking about player retention and such, and one line he said was "And we're ignoring the fact that Diablo Immortal comes out in a few weeks by the way guys, that's not a game, we're gonna play Path of Exile". Outside of this clip he seems to be one of the most actively involved CEO's when it comes to his product and company and he seems to have a solid understanding of what is good & bad for the players. Good execs can exist and it's hilarious just how much worse the slimeballs at Activision/Blizzard and other companies end up looking. Edit: The one minute clip I mentioned is titled: 'Chris Wilson: Diablo Immortal is not a game'. It will probably show up just searching 'Chris Wilson Diablo Immortal'.

So naturally, I decided that I wanted to completely trash those games and destroy the reputation of the company that made them." Not exactly verbatim, but this is what Ybarra is saying in a nutshell. Gotta start calling people out for their crap, and that includes both sides of the isle. Ybarra is an embarrasement to Blizzard and the Diablo community, as proven by his constant disregard and instant dismissal of any negative feedback, but the people on the opposite side of the line are often not much better. The streamers and content creators who are bashing Diablo Immortal, while streaming Diablo 2 and 3 and talking about how excited they are for D4 are just as bad as Ybarra. The old "I'm not going to support what you do but I will keep buying your products and providing free advertising so others will too" argument that has proven so effective in changing the minds of developers in the past.

Minor correction. Blizzard has NEVER had a single ounce of integrity even as far back as Orcs vs Humans. I've recently taken the dive into the Warhammer universe and with even just Dawn of War, with it's DLC content, and the very early stages of Dawn of War 2 I am convinced of that. When people say Warcraft and Starcraft were heavily inspired by the Warhammer franchise, repurposed and advanced upon and otherwise... I want you to picture Mike Ybara saying that you can play 99.5% of Diablo Immortal for free because that's what they did with Warhammer. They took 99.5% of their shit almost directly from Warhammer and used the last .5% to dodge copyright lawsuits. Every mission I run in either of these games I'm like, "Oh there's a Zergling. Oh there's a High Templar/Dark Templar. Oh there's a Pylon. Oh there's the Adrenal Gland upgrade FOR the Zergling and it does the literal exact same thing." They copy/pasted shit all the way down to Psi Storms and Adrenal Glands, unit upgrades, and Hero customization like SC2 had for each expansion. Literally all they changed was the backdrop of the universe and lore and just inserted everything else and they probably took that shit from elsewhere anyways. They've never had an honest bone in their body much less a single original thought.

@@rageofheaven First off: Wrong. Warcraft was meant to be a Warhammer game, not Starcraft. That's a misconception based on some half assed report from some gaming jouranlist. Second off: First Generation Tyranid models came out in 1990. They included figures that strongly resembled Zerglings, Infested Terran, Ultralisks and was the source of where Blizzard grabbed 'Hunter Killers' from based on the names of two other types of Tyranids. To name a few. Starcraft came out in 1996. It took me about 5-10 minutes to google this. Edit: Also a funny side note is they got the name Hunter Killer, for the elite Hyradlisks in Starcraft Brood War from the taking Hunter from Hunter-Slayers (the model they ripped off for the zerglings) and Killer from Screamer-Killers (the same Tyranid model they ripped off for the Ultralisks) and bunched them together to make Hunter-Killers. Blizzard, innovating plagiarism since 1996. Imagine what they could do with an original IP if they put half the effort they put into nakedly stealing everyone else's.

I try harded the game when it released, I grinded until paragon 30 with the EXP downed to 30%, was in the number one clan of the server and made it high in the rift challenge entirely F2P, until it hit me that soon enough the grinding will be useless as the clan will start to seek players with a set number of resonance and I refused to pour the little money I have in such a scam. At that point I gave up and let's say I magically made 45$

Imagine if Nintendo made the original Super Mario Bros with the blizzard model: 1. Each level has a real world mile of repetitive level length. Basically, take each level, lay it end to end 1800 times, and you got a Blizzard level. You can now buy speed increases in the Blizzard Store! 2. Each of these new massive levels only has one item drop. Randomized Item Packs are now for sale in the Blizzard store! ( Coin - 90%, Mushroom 9%, Fire Flower 0.9%, Star 0.1%) 3. You only start with one life and each level has a chance to spawn with one 1up Mushroom hidden in the level. On Game Over you can spend $0.99 for a Single 1up Pack (Excellent value Ten 1up pack available for $8.99!) Obviously this would be a good game because "anyone can reach the end game with enough hard work!"

It's the same on Elder Scrolls Online. The game launched without a cash shop and a year later it was implemented. Since then it has been chapter on chapter of content, debatable quality and very little interventions towards issues that the community has been pointing out for years. The creative director replied to a streamer/player on a personal stream and when asked: 'Why are you using predatory tactics on new players via the cash shop?', he replied: 'We aren't greedy f'''ks!' Sad times indeed.

It is in fact... predatory behavior and a SCAM.
