Billie Eilish Body Shames Men

Ойын-сауық

Billie Eilish recently stated that men are never the victims of body shaming, and women face nothing but discrimination. Ironically, Billie has a history of publicly body-shaming men. What are the odds of that?

    Coming from my female friends and family, women can be really mean. From the experiences I've been told of, they're often really mean to women who aren't inside of their friend group. Sometimes, even their friend group is toxic. Of course, men can be that way too, but in all of the close friend groups I've been a part of, guys are usually very inviting and non-judging. But again, that's my experience mixed with what I'm told by the women who I'm close to.

    @@paddington1670 it does happen, it’s just far rarer (and far more harmless) than the popular narrative about it claims. I’ve been catcalled and my female family members have been, but I’ve never seen it happen around construction sites. My experience with them is that they’re either too busy or just don’t care. I’m sure it’s not helpful when climbing around on the roof of an apartment complex to allow oneself the distraction of whistling at some chick for the few seconds she’s in ear shot, to no personal benefit. The handful of times I’ve witnessed catcalling, it’s been from idiot boys and college guys accompanied by their equally stupid friends, likely for the purpose of eliciting laughter from the group. They’re not typically good looking, either, because good looking boys and college guys wouldn’t feel the need to catcall a girl for her attention. All of this complaining about such a non-issue is really just petty, catty childishness that is profoundly counterproductive.

    I’d actually agree that girls are nice, but niceness and kindness are very different things. Men tend to be honest and to the point, women will employ all kinds of word salad to criticize people. Sometimes this is done out of a well-meant place of not wishing to hurt someone’s feelings, other times it’s done to cover up their true cruelty. Being nice is really just being polite, being kind means you actually care. Honesty, even when it may hurt one’s relationship or social standing, is kind. Lying to someone’s face or at least hiding an important truth for the sake of peace, either one’s own or someone else’s, is nice. Men won’t lie to their male friend about his being fat. Women are far more likely to lie to a female friend about her body. To naive and world-ignorant people like Billie, this seems like being kind, but it’s not.

It is as bad as being mocked because I can't easily tell my nice collegues off and have to bear it. When you already tried a lot then go to a doctor that is an food and nutritient expert. They can test how much fat and protein percentage your body has and tell you what to eat. Furthermore you should look into problems relating to digestion. I'm sure a general doctor could tell you where to go to let certain biological matter be tested. I wish you all the best! Don't give up!

I started lifting using the starting strength method and doing GOMAD and eating 3 big meals a day. Right before bed I would make a protein shake in the blender with 2 scoops of protein and 16 oz of whole milk and add in other stuff like a banana, peanut butter, chia seeds, honey, sometimes coconut oil and the shake itself was usually between 1000-1200 calories. I would drink that then go lay down because it was so filling it made me feel nauseous. I would often eat until I felt uncomfortable. For every meal I would try to eat between 800-1000 calories plus that big shake before bed with my goal being between 4000-5000 calories a day. It wasn't easy at first but I worked my way up to it.

    She was homeschooled, so yes. I want to cut her some slack here and say that in the environment she’s grown up in, it probably does feel that way. In the entertainment industry I do see more body shaming on women and especially on ridiculously young girls. It happens to men too, of course. But I think when it comes to women it’s more of a talk in the media also partially because the reactions to it are stronger. Idk I just see people scrutinize every detail of a gorgeous woman’s body while with men it’s usually limited to overall bodyweight (even there more is accepted than on women) and maybe height I guess. I haven’t seen many people be like “Oh this dude has such a flat ass tho. He’s so mid. etc.” but maybe I’m just blind lol. It definitely happens both ways but I think she probably based this on comparing her own experience to that of her brother. Which is admittedly a little flawed cause she was just way more in the spotlight than he was.

    @@JustanotherKZreadr771I understand your point and I agree that it happens a bit more to women, but towards men, it's a bit more complicated. A man is often judged by what's between his legs, even nobody can see it, people just use it as an insult. A man can also be labelled a creep just for the way he looks, for balding or because his beard is weirdly shaped. Criticism certainly happens more to women, but it's not as far away as it looks compared to the low blows a man can get.

    @DannyDevitoOffical-TrustMeBro

    @@JustanotherKZreadr771 agreed, attitudes in entertainment are different when it comes to body image. It likely stems from the fact that men and women value different things in members of the opposite sex; men are very visual, they are more likely to immediately appreciate a woman for her physical appearance than a woman would a man. No doubt women like a handsome man too, it’s just that there are other things that need to be at play for a woman to regard a man. The role of celebrities will reflect this, as the majority of their allure comes from their looks. Female celebrities will therefore feel much more pressure from their audience to look good, whereas male celebrities could achieve the same level of appeal from members of the opposite sex by being rich, charismatic, etc. However, in regular life, men definitely experience a far more profound pressure from our society to measure up to highly strict beauty standards. For women, good makeup, a clean-ish diet, and cute clothes cover over a lot of “inadequacies” when it comes to our appearances, but it is not so for men. Other than working out, a lot of the standards men are held to regard immutable characteristics like height and the size of their genitals. They also don’t have the cheat code that is makeup. Working out is also a much harder task than anything expected of women. It didn’t use to be this way, even just 20 years ago women had it a lot worse in this area. However, attitudes have flipped strongly very fast.

    @@EssentialBlueobjectifying oneself does just as much damage as having it happen externally, except that the former is a choice and the other, in the case of celebrities, is unavoidable. By treating oneself as an object of sexual desire one still instills into oneself the attitude of needing to be sexually desirable in order to be worthy, except that one may not even notice this attitude change, as it happens subconsciously. It is far more easy to combat such an attitude if sexual objectification is imposed on you by strangers. In fact, self-objectification _enables_ others to do the same to you, because you present yourself to the lowest dredges of society as someone on their level. Such treatment may not have happened to her on such a great scale of she hadn’t bared her newly 18-year-old body to a world full of creeps for the explicit purpose of being looked at sexually, when those creeps may have felt more societal pressure to keep their morally repugnant opinions on a barely-legal young woman covert. She got her start as a 13 year old because her brother merely enlisted her aid to lend vocals to the song he’d already written, then he went on to produce the song himself. You can’t logically argue that a woman who’s been a child most of her music career has had the same amount of creative influence on her music than the adult brother who gave her her start. He is the musical talent behind her brand, she’s just the face of it. Say what you want about her vocal capacity, but she’s not the creative force behind her music.

    Any time you hear a song by a woman that you think is actually good, if you look it up in wikipedia you'll see it was written or co-written by a man. At most the woman came up with the lyrics while the man came up with the music, and it's the music that stands out. Most men aren't outliers and don't stand out above women, but the few people who are really standouts in their fields are all men, so they rise to the top. Then feminists point at them and complain that it's not equal.

There are a lot of not “nice girls” and half of them hate men from birth at this point. Half of the girls I know have become bisexual or even lesbian because of how much they hate guys. A lot of girls I know have not dated me for my body. This is one of the worst takes I’ve ever heard period and I have no idea how some of these people think to come to these conclusions. (Also I want to let everyone know that I didn’t write this comment for pity and I have a girlfriend. I just wanted to show how Billie was wrong and a viewpoint from a male who deals with dating. And I go to the gym regularly and am a fit person. And for all the people saying you only 15, yes I know that. That girl that you like, who claims she's a lesbian will grow up, marry a guy and have kids by the time she's 30. The whole "gender" bullshit is like Pokémon trading cards - a fad that kids grow out of. What's really concerning is the whole transvestite ideology, where young men and young women are mutilating their bodies. There's no coming back from that.

    I am a "mature" woman (as in retirement age). Weight has never been a problem for me until after menopause. I didn't put on a lot of extra weight, but I did find it was easier to gain weight and harder to lose it. The reason I say this is because I have worked my entire life and have found that women can be shallow and show greater prejudice and disrespect to others, especially to other women. One of the reasons I retired when I did was because my male manager was replaced by a female manager who I had already worked with. Before she was my immediate supervisor, she already had the mindset that I was her personal assistant so when she was actually made my immediate supervisor, I decided it was time for me to retire. Which I did within the first year of her promotion. I would much rather work for a man than a woman because a woman can be so catty and petty!

    Just the facts that Billie eilish is in her early 20’s, grew to this young adulthood in Hollywood of all places, was homeschooled by parents who both worked in Hollywood, and has lived in the Southern California bubble her whole life should make it abundantly clear that any opinion on regular culture she gives comes not from a place of knowledge, but hubris. She has no point of reference. She’s used to the strange, artificial bubble of Hollywood culture that exists almost wholly divorced from the life of regular people. She’s never worked a regular job under either a male or female boss, has never attended a regular school with her own peers, hasn’t even been exposed to these things by watching her parents engage in regular working life. She’s as privileged as anyone could possibly get. Being a celebrity does subject her to far more scrutiny concerning her body, yes, but this is not at all the same for us regular women and girls. She ignores the very real and rampant vitriol regularly spewed against men for their immutable characteristics for the unforgivable offense of not being the modern woman’s perfect mental ideal of a male object. I despise celebrities taking it upon their privileged, soft, spoiled shoulders to lecture the people whose money they live off of on all manner of topics they know nothing about.

    "Nobody says a thing about men's bodies." No, they definitely do. The difference is all in how they tend to take it. Women, and I say this as a woman, will typically break down, internalize it, or possibly wage war on whoever said it, dragging the whole scene out. Men will typically say, "Haha, yeah, you right" and because they don't drag it out and make a scene, people forget and move on. Nobody comments on Jack Black's body anymore because he always took those comments in stride and let his talent do the talking, but I definitely recall early on in his career when he was constantly called schlubby and unattractive. But you always hear about Lizzo's body because she _constantly_ brings it up herself. Now, that being said, bodyshaming ain't right on either side, no matter how you take it. And it's no lie that women do sometimes get the short end of the stick when it comes to that, or at least it was more common in the past. But to make such an outrageous claim that nobody says a thing about men's bodies? Get real. That's so wildly off the mark.
