Billie Eilish - NOT MY RESPONSIBILITY - a short film
Музыка
a short film originally produced for and seen on tour
made by billie eilish
do you know me?
really know me?
you have opinions
about my opinions
about my music
about my clothes
about my body
some people hate what I wear
some people praise it
some people use it to shame others
some people use it to shame me
but I feel you watching
always
and nothing I do goes unseen
so while I feel your stares
your disapproval
or your sigh of relief
if I lived by them
I’d never be able to move
would you like me to be smaller?
weaker?
softer?
taller?
would you like me to be quiet?
do my shoulders provoke you?
does my chest?
am I my stomach?
my hips?
the body I was born with
is it not what you wanted?
if I wear what is comfortable
I am not a woman
if I shed the layers
I’m a slut
though you’ve never seen my body
you still judge it
and judge me for it
why?
we make assumptions about people
based on their size
we decide who they are
we decide what they’re worth
if I wear more
if I wear less
who decides what that makes me?
what that means?
is my value based only on your perception?
or is your opinion of me
not my responsibility

They're responsible for the actions they take, but it's completely natural for men to find young women attractive regardless of how old we are. That's why certain manners of dress are disruptive in professional, academic, & religious environments. We have to exert extra mental energy just to be able to focus when there are immodestly dressed women around. It just makes people less productive. I want to show women the respect they deserve but women don't want have compassion for men. We can't help that we're wired to be extremely visual animals. Even the most respectful, earnest men struggle with this yet we're told to just magically stop being what we are. I wouldn't be okay with a stranger dragging candy across my tongue, but I'm called a perv or a misogynist because I don't want them doing the same thing to my eyes. This isn't about oppressing women. It's about social harmony and productivity. Ideally it wouldn't have to be a rule, but rather women would see that dressing modestly is the compassionate and responsible thing to do and they'd choose to do it themselves.

from an art perspective this is so beutiful and tragic and deep-rooted. even though i am ntot in the spotlight. i put too much pressure on myself to look 'normal' all my life. from screaming in changing rooms at age 8 to starving myself at 11 its something i try to control but cant, escially when my emotions get in the way. but i find that mental and physical health go hand in hand. when im in a bad place mentally, im in a bad place physically. which is why ive started working out every day! when i have the slightest bit of energy and motivation and nothing better to do i'll do a workout, eat some fruit when im hungry (or just drink) and find ways to be productive. recently ive tried to make music (shit) drawn, pained, grown shit, started breeding shrimp, redeorated my room, upgraded my hamster and educate myself on things i like (animals mainly)! yes other people are factors in your life, but you build the foundation and you can influence your outcome. you can make a happy ending
Her voice is like inhaling cold deep breath 💙💙
This is a very powerful message from someone so young but she shouldn’t have to be saying it. My heart breaks for this kid that her talent and accomplishments get overshadowed by what people think of her body.
“your opinion of me isn’t my responsibility”,she couldn’t have said it better. thank you for being a voice for many that could never get the courage to say it. you’ve touched so many young women & silenced the ones who body shame. i have nothing but respect for you & i’m so proud you’ve kept going & growing. your message helped many. edit- im beyond grateful for all the likes,it makes me smile not just the likes but knowing people have seen my message🥺
@ericlwin5348

In my opinion it's not just young women she has touched and sent this message out to. I believe anyone and everyone should know that you should love yourself for who you are, their opinions aren't yours so why do you care? P.S. Of course if a person actually wants to change like maybe get more fit, gain weight, lose weight, etc then that's completely fine and there's no problem with letting someone's opinion of you open your eyes. For example, if you're unhealthily thin and your friend recommends to you to gain weight, that could actually help you. I hope I said it right.

People body shame a lot! It actually hurts.. I’m only 11 years old and I weight 56kg or something. I’m not embarrassed saying this, because I don’t know you, I don’t know who’s reading this, but what I know is, that you, yes you! You can give people motivation to lose weight or to make other people love their body’s. If you do the opposite, people will be insecure and hide their body’s. Try making the world a better place for us. Stop body shaming! How would you feel if someone called you too skinny or too fat?! It hurts! So please stop! I’m serious… Stay strong and remember that someone in this world loves you! ❤️ - a lot of love from April.
