I mean the bigger issue is how the sport and federation are so corrupt. the past 4 tdf have had a humongous jump in climbing performances I find it incredibly unlikely the current generation are clean either. they also hated him bc of the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq, but he was a huge bully and worked with the UCI to silence others. there was also a period where USPS was on top of the transfusion game and other teams were behind the ball. I am a huge lance fan but he is definitely a sociopath and the issue is deeply rooted in the sports history nearly every generation has doped for over 100 years. it's not as cut and dry as people make it out to be.

The thing I've realized long ago about Conan that sets him apart from all other late night hosts is his humility. When he has a comedian on or anyone who is telling a great story/joke, he doesn't interrupt and try to steal the spotlight, or make some weird side joke that ruins the flow, or try to carry on the story after it's finished, etc, he just lets the guest speak how they want and lets it naturally run its course. That takes a certain kind of humility and respect for the guest.

I'm assuming this is a boring UK vs USA comment so lets talk about something else. It's interesting that well-known American comedians usually represent a lower/middle-class viewpoint -- so Mr. Harvard up there will always downplay his education at every turn and talks about his Irish Catholic upbringing instead. Meanwhile English comic personalities often skew towards being eccentric provocateurs or having an intellectual superiority shtick or both (Russell Brand). So Ricky Gervais is from the home counties and has a whole lot of takes that are more or less the same as Bill Burr, but instead of Burr's whole "eh, maybe it's just me" routine Ricky Gervais has to be the smartest man in the room at all times and wants you to know it and gets weirdly derailed if someone happens to think otherwise. Thoughts? Fwiw I actually like Gervais more, despite his acting career being garbage for 15 years now and Burr kind of on the ascent these days.

@@razjml My thoughts are that you are really missing out on some top-notch British comedy. I love watching Ricky Gervais and I love watching Bill Burr even more. But there's a whole spectrum of British comedians who all have a particular style that are just so great to watch. I don't particularly care for Graham Norton but if it's talkshows he has some interesting British comedians on. British panelshows is where the real fun is at though. 8 out of 10 cats, would I lie to you, the two seasons of Nevermind the Buzzcocks when Simon Amstell hosted. Let me see, you have: would I lie to you(WILTY), big fat quiz(some great American guests too!), was it something I said, QI(bit brainier, not always my cup of tea), argumental when it was still at the BBC. Really recommend any of those. Not American or British myself btw, I think there's a lot to appreciate in both countries when it comes to comedy. I'd recommend some Dutch/Flemish comedians, but I don't think their material makes much sense for non-Dutch speakers.

We should be embracing it and working out how to get the benefits without the risks. We're already doing it in all other areas of life, everyone takes pills when their backs hurt, when they can't digest food properly, when they need energy to work a long shift, or to calm down for a presentation or to fall asleep, what makes sports so different? When doctors first discovered steroids they didn't even think of them as something to be used in professional sports. They saw it as a panacea that would allow humans to be fitter and stronger and live with high youthful quality of life until a later age, the first man who isolated testosterone in a lab actually tried it on himself. Instead people have been brainwashed into vilifying these potent drugs that could be improving our quality of life in so many ways and as a result while we are now expected to live until our 100s we just accept that we'll only life with any real quality until our 50s or early 60s at most, and then we just have to slowly wither away like this weak broken useless thing for the next 40 years. The difference between Bill Burr and 99% of all other top-comedians, is that Bill Burr is a genuinely funny guy. He doesn't need a rehearsed routine to be extremely funny, it just comes naturally to him in conversation. Imagine having a night out with him when he's in the zone. Good god, I'd never want the night to end!

Hey, Jimmy Fallon! This is how you treat comedians like Bill Burr. Shut up and let them talk. Do not jump in every other word trying to "share" the moment. Respect them enough to pull the focus from you for a few seconds. I tried watching the Bill Burr rant on Fallon about Christmas and Fallon stepped all over it. Conan understands letting comedians go. Burr isn't some open mic-er; he's a talented artist. He doesn't need the training wheels.
