This guy was a walking tank and comes across very honest and genuine I don't think there would of been many in the history of wresting who could of stood toe to toe with him in a real fight.

Every wrestler who ever said anything about Vader was, he was stiff in the ring, but he made being a heel look really authentic by acting stiff. A lot of guys did like working with Vader because he could really make a match look absolutely great. Being stiff was just part of the character, and it made it entertaining. It brought the element of realism and showmanship WCW and NWA made a staple.

Yeah but if you a top baby face like Bret or Shawn, you don't want to be getting shoot punched in the face for 10 mins every single night just so you can look great on the back end. I certainly wouldn't want to be facing Vader every night.

i think WWF buried Vader largely because of Shawn Michaels' influence, it's sickening how many guys were buried in that company but Vader was a tragic waste of talent. you don't get many big men who can move the way he did, dropkick like he did, etc. Bam Bam too

After watching this I revisited the Starrcade match. You can see the emotion in Ric's eyes when he's being introduced by Michael Buffer, it must have been some small measure of catharsis to get that kind of reaction. It's a great bout, and everybody involved did their absolute best to get it right. It was a good cap to that run Vader had all year as well, and a great showing of him as a heel.

He reminds me about how men used to be. From the 40s and 50s. Bar fights were somewhat fair. I worked with a old giant Swede guy. He was probably in his 50s when I was in my 20s. He got in a bar fight and the guy was smacking his face. Tom laughed at him and said it was like a bee sting. Then tore him up.

There's a big difference between being dangerous in the ring, and being a stiff worker. It's a valid way to work, and Vader is renowned in that style. If you don't want that style in your ring, why book him in the first place? That's where the money was with Vader.

I've heard several wrestlers, stories and the like about Vadar being too stiff in the ring. I get what he's saying here but why not just tell Flair beforehand. Look I'm going to take the first 15 and you'll take the last 15 and go into the finish. I mean that would have been the professional thing to do. I don't know, he seems like he had to legitimately piss Flair off to get this match out of him.

There’s an unwritten rule, apparently: If you’ve got a really good idea (like Leon’s for this match w/Ric), you don’t go ask the wily veteran (Ric, in this case) for his PERMISSION, you just DO THE THING, and if need be, seek forgiveness later if it doesn’t work out. Thankfully for both dudes, the work worked.

I feel like some guys get shitted on and ppl dont take into account their circumstances at the time.Warrior,Luger,Vader no these guys werent the best workers but they were thrust into being main event figures before they were ready...thats not really their fault. I feel like Vader gets heat from ppl instead of admiration for how agile he was as a big man. Vader was OVER just by his look but he was no Earthquake or King Kong Bundy or any of those big guys who just stayed “The Big Guy” the whole match,Vader had the moonsault and running ability of a cruiserweight.

I have never heard of any and Mr. Flair also dealt with a lot of fan attacks. He wasn't trying to get in a legit fight here with Vader acoording to this story. Just fighting back hard to create an intense match that is still talked about today. Vader was not trying to hurt him in a serious manner. He was just having a stiff match.

He didn't "let" Flair win. All the match outcomes are predetermined by the booker. Vader didn't really have a choice. Obviously, in a real fight Vader, with his big weight advantage, would have kicked Flair's ass. But this is professional wrestling, not a real fight. These guys were professionals. They went out there to entertain the crowd and have a great match.
