Shawn Michaels had 2 hall of fame careers. Pre back injury Shawn was impressive. The irony is that when he came back he could not perform physically as he would in his prime, but he had greater matches, every year he stole the show, the man was a wrestling machine. God bless him.

Everyone says wrestling is fake and whats the point. Look at the joy Shannon has on his face just interviewing Flair. This is why we watched wrestling back in the day. It was absolutely a joy to watch with the memories we had with our families all watching together those iconic PPV events on Sunday evenings. The stories wrestlers have are some of the greatest stories ever told.

You say corniest, but when you compare all the other possible ideas that were coming up with, Mark LOVED Undertaker. You say corny, I say inspired. Absolutely none of these personas would work if the person inside of them wasn't owning them entirely. Hot Rod, Macho Man, Hulk, Stone Cold, Dusty. None of them work without that man taking it by the horns and riding it all the way home.

As a professional wrestler myself, I’ve gotta say, I’m super impressed with Shannon Sharpe‘s wrestling Alex! When he just starts reeling off some of Ric Flair‘s opponents, he doesn’t name the obvious ones that most people would when Rick does these interviews (like Hulk Hogan, macho man, Dusty Rhodes, etc.) for him being able to pull out, Baron von Raschke, Bobo Brazil, Mr. wrestling #1 & #2, I was thoroughly impressed! You could tell he’s much more than just a casual wrestling fan. Very cool stuff! Great interview!

Promos of shawn after the comeback was just on different stratosphere, like for example as small and short his rivalry with jericho was which most of us forgot, that storyline was just different level, even that was the best highlight on other wrestlers career, but to shawn that was just a small piece, thats how good he is (and jericho of course). But to perform swiftly during that 04-09 run was just phenomenal and being not the same athlete before injury, you wont notice it yes, but if you watch closely its just different compared to the 90s shawn, BUT, he is still better than most even on those time. Flair just stated facts, as much as i love hogan and taker all time, Shawn for me is the GOAT.

I think you can't compare many wrestler because they belongs to different eras (with a different target of people) and during the same eras they have different roles. A lot of wrestlers dislike Ultimate Warrior for example (and probably for good reasons) BUT if u were a child at the time u couldn't help but be fascinated by him, even if he basically had 3 moves, his character was jaw dropping for a little kid. And he changed the game. So knowing that wrestling is a show, it's really tough to pick the right criteria (or to establish which one should prevail) to judge every single wrestler.

Well said. Sustained popularity, how ever that is achieved at the time, will carry more weight than any one person's set criteria on how to judge an entertainer. Technical skills have never meant more than the ability to control an audience's emotions.

@@JPK169That’s just factually incorrect and shows your lack of knowledge. Shawn Michaels was still a tag team performer when Bret was making it up the ranks and was intercontinental champion. The WWF was moving away from Hogan and those guys and Bret was next in line, and won the championship in 92 when Michaels was finally breaking out of tag matches. Even when Shawn Michaels became intercontinental champion, Bret was already the champion and face of the company. Now, who you think is better in the ring is your opinion. I prefer Brets technical and better in ring storytelling. Every match looked more realistic and a gruelling battle. To me, most of Shawn’s matches just seemed like him being flashy and just winning.

So myself and a group of shipmates decided to go to D&B's. We're sitting there and I look back and see someone that looked like Ric Flair. I tell my buddy next to me, "Dude, I think thats Ric Flair." He says, 'Nah, that can't be him." So I get up and walk over to him and say, "Excuse me, sir. Are you Ric Flair?" He politely confirmed he was, so I get excited and ask if he would be willing to take a picture with us, and he politely agreed. So, there is a picture out there somewhere of me and about 5 of my shipmates, in our Dress Blues, at Dave & Busters, with Ric Flair.

basing it off the comments here and wherever Jordan is, this is how it goes: Jordan = James Hetfield = HBK and Lebron = Dave Mustaine = Brett Hart. The latter one has fanatics always on the case for their idol/favorite and cannot take it that there is someone actually being heralded as better. They will always say overrated, and nitpick the GOATs so they can elevate their own idol. LMFAO
