Big Block 1961 Cadillac rescued from the field!
Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары
Follow along as we lay out the saga of "Lil Debby", the 1961 Cadillac Series 62. This thing came out of its resting place after 10 years of sitting. We are excited to start down the road of getting this poor thing back on the road. Many more episodes to come!

Keep it original ! Pull the heads and go from there ! Great car👍
Keep it original. If you can afford it. Great looking car!
Gotta tell ya fella, for likens or any mould, use an antiseptic cleaner fluid with hot water and a good scrub. Leave for 2 days. The car will stink for a week or so, but in a good way. NOTHING will live. Stuff is cheap. Over here it's called dettol. Love the channel. Greetings from Ireland 🇮🇪
i had a 62, caddy mine had different back lights man she was something else to big for some of our ENGLISH ROADS felt like a king driving her merry christmas from ENGLAND
You might find the build sheet if you drop the fuel tank, but you knew that already, see... I'm already excited about this Caddie lol!
Must be the nicest rescue I've seen on KZread. This one should be restored as original!

Super cool! I'm excited to see the future of this Ole girl
Like the caddy
I was 3 years old when these cars were new - and had some plastic toy models (1/200th scale I believe) of this car - loved the fender mounted turn signals (amber lenses) this model was the last year before cornering lamps (touted by Cadillac as “the latest advance in nighttime driving”) were introduced on the 1962 models - the relatively good condition of this car is a tribute to the men who built her - the fit and finish, intact glass, chrome etc - I always imagine what these cars looked like as they came off the assembly line brand new - gorgeous detailed styling - factory air conditioning was still an expensive option in the early 60s and the technology and efficiency kept improving year after year
The vent windows in the front doors do not signify a 6-Window Sedan...rather the fixed rear window in the C-pillar on both sides of the car. The 4-Window Sedan for 1961 had the same vent windows, a wraparound rear window and narrow C-pillar, with the roof acting as a visor.

Appreciate the info! I am definitely no expert on these, like they say....you can't always trust what you read online.
This is a well-optioned Series 62 with A/C being the most expensive option. Some buyers in those days didn't want the leather interior that came with the DeVille but insisted on all of the other upgrades.

Your sir, are a wealth of knowledge. Cheers
Can't wait for more. Nice first video. Keep it original 💯
sucker for a Cadillac. I'm in.
Awesome! I have a 61' Short Deck Deville.
Wow I didn't realize this was your first video! Great job. I'm looking forward to more

Pull the heads free it up and go from there, I'll take the ride. Happy New Year!
That's a purdy nice lookin old ride.
I always used Knox's polish for pots and pans to clean all of the chrome. It removes all of the surface rust and leave a film. Give it a whirl.
I've got one of those beautiful girls to. I would use some mystery oil and atf to get it unstuck. Mines White with Black and White interior. The door panels and interior is in great shape ,just the headliner needs replaced. It's a tribute to my dad and grandpa. I'm gone to rebuild the engine over the winter and put disk breaks at least on the fronts. Caddy Daddy has rebuild kitsch for the water pump. I'll keep checking to see how your doing

100%.agree. Sitting here watching the struggle to turn that motor over and I'm yelling at my phone Marvelous mystery oil! Dump some in there with a little tranny fluid let er soak for a day. It'll bust those rings loose. Don't get discouraged by what you see in the valve train there. It's not as bad as you think. And for gawds sake don't put a friggin LS in there.
Definitely original. Great video and great job.

Thank you very much!
Keep it like it is
Who the hell suggested that music! I had identical Caddy in '71! Great car!
For what it would take, pull rocker shafts maybe they are stuck? Check valves and at least top end is isolated I dunno, cylinders really didn't look that bad Your welds are stress tested good job
Hey, nice to see you save another car from the wrecker. You have your hands full with this one. Maybe pull the radiator to gain you more access to the crank. You have to pull it anyway to get to the water pump and probably have the rad rodded out. I just bought two of these, check out my KZread channel (Vintage Thunderbird Repair) and videos about my journey with my two 61 caddys. Ive been using Caddy Daddy and McVeys for parts. I also found a wrecking yard here in Colorado that has many 1961 parts cars, shown in my videos, that have some very nice rust free pit free chrome pieces, and many other parts that you could use. You cannot fix pitted chrome unless you have it replated and that is very expensive. I just started my journey with my two cars recently. I do Thunderbirds but I needed a break from those and wanted to do something new. I got lucky to find these two cars that were sitting in a warehouse for 30 years. I'm working on the gold one first and I got it to start right up. Got lucky. I'm sorry your having so many issues with getting yours running. I love the patina on your car, very cool. Id keep that. My gold one is weird, has primer spots here and there. My green one is cool though, at least the faded paint is consistent all around. Clearly you have OCD, old car disease. I have OGCD, old guy car disease. There is no cure. I subscribed to your channel and am looking forward to your upcoming videos. Very cool and interesting. Thanks for posting.

Appreciate the suggestions! I'll definitely check out your channel 🤝
Just subscribed! Dig this. Yes it's "yer' Grandpas Cadillac", and "Grandpa was a Badass!" Like to see where you go with this girl. P.s. I'm stealing the mosquito's a** line lol 😂.P.P.s. please go numbers matching as much as possible. I would strip her all the way down and have a complete rebuild done, it'll take longer but when the numbers match the build sheet... That's when ya got a GEM!
As wiser folks than me would say, "It's only original once"...

Agreed!
I know it's not an easy choice but try to use the original engine. I have a 61 coupe DeVille and the 390 is a great engine. Also I've bought parts from Cadillac parts Ltd they are in New Jersey very knowledgeable and friendly. I just got a rebuilt water pump from them for my car, I have some videos of her on my channel. I'm subscribing to you so I can see how this Cadillac turns out!

@@theholubproject3497 maybe try marvel mystery oil? Or diesel?
The more you want to restore this car the more you want to stick with the 390. However, if you want to make this a real driver and have fun with the car and not restore everything to factory, then the swap would be the way to go. Restored cars hardly ever get driven while modified cars do. I guess the first issue is how good the 390 is to better determine which way to go.
Pull the heads and see what the cylinders look like. Once you get in there, you can fill them with Marvel Mystery oil and see if it breaks loose. I hope you don't go the LS route on such a solid original car.
Some 00.00 steel wool will take care of the chrome and stainless without damaging it. And those pedals don't look worn enough for it to be over 128.000
dry ice blast the door trim and dash, bumpers
Man had to walk away from this one, music!
Use a 000006 sos pad to clean the Chrome really nice or a very low grade of SOS pads
Well A FOOL N HIS MONEY ARE SOON PARTED!! I THINK IT WOULD COST FAR MORE THEN THE CAR COULD EVER BE WORTH BUT IT COULD BE A BEAUTIFUL CAR FOR ABOUT 12 GRAND ! OMG. GOOD LUCK
U can use a sos pad on the chrome and inside chrome and it will come back to new shiny chrome
Never try and free a stuck engine without inspection of valve train, make sure starter motor isn't locked into flywhee.
It would be nice to keep it original, but don't know your financial situation. So I would say do what's in your Best interest. It definitely is a nice car. Good luck on what ever Way you choose.

Thanks so much!
Keep it original, engine will free up, will take some work though, I've seen it done before
You may have to take the radiator out, Get as much out of your way as you possibly can, to where you can get a break a bar or cheater bar to break the engine loose. You said the water pump seized up start taking the front of me stuff apart. Then put transmission fluid in the cylinders and let it soak for a couple days.

All good ideas. Appreciate it!
Shower the engine inside with bb blaster. Try that. I try vinegar once and it ended up locking the engine up.
Soft steel wool to clean the chrome
I'm a new subscriber and looking forward to see more videos. Where are you located? I'm in Rome Georgia.
You might try putting some ATF, or Marvin's mystery oil to unstick that motor. She's too complete and original to molest her. I would pull it out and rebuild it. Make a motor is going to last a while. Then from bumper to bumper take your time and refurbish it. Wouldn't make a great daily driver. God bless
My 61 was no.power...425 rocket and fluid drive trans
Anything that tight, if u get it to start it won't run well long..rebuild the original.i just paid 4k for the 390 in my 59 fleetwood.all new.
That's a great car for mine I would rebuild it keep it original
Even if you do get the engine to rotate and get it running the rings and cylinder walls are done. Needs a total rebuild. Is the rest of the car OK. Frame, trans rear end and so on. Is it worth it to you to spend the time and money? Hope so they are beautiful old cars.
@theholubproject3497
Жыл бұрын
Agreed. She's going to need some work that's for sure. Trans is unknown, frame is good. Definitely going to spend some time on it. Stay tuned for updates
Definitely rebuild if necessary.
Please keep it stock.
Remove rad and shroud, unnecessary pulleys and belts and give yourself some room to see and work properly to exert the necessary force needed to work on something like this. Disassembly is emminent, so start now and give yourself the room before, not after !!!
All caddys have standard items like wheel choke
Keep the engine if possible! Rebuild it
ORIGINAL RESTO!!!
Pull the engine, disassemble it in a video. Then decide the next step.
again one saved
This is in a incredibly good condition after all the time spent in a field! And NOT in CAL or FL or TX.....
Hi I think the starter stuck I recon removing the heads of allso remove the inspection plate to I bet if you go through the things I’ve put lined you will have a better chance of increasing the engine
Keep the motor!
Penetrating oil, Marvel Mystery oil, WD-40, etc...all down the spark plug holes for 3 days!!! Failing that pull her out and take the sucker apart...
I have must have missed the part we all pulled the spark plugs out and put Marlboro Mystery Oil in there let it soak soak
I know this video is 2 wks old but you need to get that vinegar out of it asap and fill the cylinders with Marvel Mystery Oil and let it sit for a week or so then come back to it.
Time for a crate engine. To hell with all that rust.
BEEN LOOKING FOR THE BATTERY MINE WAS ON THE FRONT RIGHT ????
Rebuild, or maybe a later caddy engine, 472, 500 cid
Should have vacuumed that rust out of those cylinders before adding Pentatrating fluid in them cuts down on what drains down the rings and cylinders
use pb blaster or transmission fluid in cylinders
Please please rebuild that motor please it’s a very good motor
Probably not missing your antenna. Usually the antenna would automatically come up when radio is turned on.
Is the Frame rotted from sitting on top of grass ?
@theholubproject3497
Жыл бұрын
From what I have seen, it's in great shape. X frame appears very solid
All drum
Try soaking in mystery oil
Its a 315 jetaway I know cause I have one just like it
Grind off the rust and clean it up and paint it and clean up the interior
JUST SEEN THE SHELF FOR IT OOOPS LOL
If only a 390 was a "big block". But it isn't, nor is the new 390/429 that came along in '63.
Looking for a 1970 buck electric for a project car
WD-40 won't help you at all. It's a water displacer, not a penetrating oil. It's barely even a lubricant. Use Marvel Mystery oil. Get a big bottle and a funnel with a long flexible tail to fill the cylinders and leave them for a week or two. I've seen engines in far, far worse shape break free using this stuff. I've seen people use a mix of Marvel and ATF, but I never used it. It's more to extend supply of Marvel than anything else.

remove the carb dump atf down the intake until it full and live for a few days
Try stitsville auto wrecker in ottawa ont canada
Don't LS swap this beautiful car. It's so ghetto to do something like that. Just rebuild the engine. If you just want to get it running, look at my previous comment about Marvel Mystery oil.

Love the car, but could do without the music.
Use marvel mystery oil
keep it original
o-tay.....problem is between the floor and the engine.
Try the sea stuff to soak it
Keep it original
Cadillac parts USA Carry's boaters for that car
Replace the hood the hood damage was done by pick up truck
ORIGINAL
remove the fan shroud will make it easier
Keep her original. Add modern overdrive trans. Rebuild engine add fuel injection.
Fix it no Ls
Cadillacs didn’t have “big blocks”, just like Pontiacs didn’t . The engine blocks were all the same size. There was no “small block” and “big block”.
