    I have the 2021 Siskiu T7. Love it and no regrets, but for $500 more the T8 is definitely the way to go. I had a hard max budget at the time of $2K so I went T7. But like I said I have no regrets. I’m loving it.

    I wasnt happy that when my T8 arrived (around 5/01/21) the cool lil cardboard box inside that had all the paperwork and tools etc had been opened and pretty much dumped out inside the big box and the big box had a hole in the bottom from shipping so who knows what was missing. More importantly- they had Vee tire co tires on the bike instead of the Schwalbes that they listed. - Those are worth about half as much by the way. -also a paint chip by the emblem on the headtube. So I emailed them -only about the tires- asking them to take the vee's back and send me the Schwalbes... The bikes online guys try to distance themselves from polygon like it was a different company and took zero responsibility for the manufacturer swap. (polygon is the only bike online bikes sells) They said there was a shortage (obviously you can buy as many Schwalbes as you want on Amazon). They said I should be glad i didnt have to wait longer for the right tires ( I did wait about 4-5 months). Im ok with taking a chance to save money adjusting the bike myself etc, Im not ok with this company not sending me what they advertised and what I paid for.

    I was looking at some of these bikes and will pick something up this year. On your criterion would you consider the weight of the bike? A lot of them are 15kg+ which is getting quite heavy, as mentioned someone suggest the trek fuel 7 which came in 14.1kg (the more pricey models get down to the 12kg mark). So hard to compare weight and some manufacturers don’t list it. But I think it’s reasonably important if your going for a decent days ride.

    I just bought a Nukeproof Reactor Comp 275 for £1650, brand new! EDIT: I had a Boardman, the MTR has a terrible rear shock tune. They're made for 40 year old guys getting into the sport with money to burn, and they're sold exclusively in a shop that sells car parts and accessories. Avoid at all costs.

    Another great list Phil, as always. The value winner seems to be a tie between the Polygon and Vitus, with the Siskiu T8 easily the best component-to-price here, and the Escarpe CR the best value CF framed bike I've seen yet (Polygon wins overall, unless you really want to try carbon). Its a crying shame the YT is so expensive in Australia, because if it was the same price as the Polygon (like it is in the US and UK) I'd probably be willing to sacrifice the slight component discrepancy for that XXL frame. Failing the YT going on sale, my choice would be the Siskiu T8, paired with a 50mm stem and 35mm riser bar.

  • @gpearce11

    @gpearce11

    3 жыл бұрын

    @@Cadams7 Perhaps, but I want directly comparing the two. Rather I was pointing out that they were the two best value options on this list. The Siskiu T8 is the clear winner from a component perspective; everyone else is using Shimano Deore instead of SLX, or cheaper Rockshox/Marzocchi suspension instead of Fox. The Escarpe CR, meanwhile, is admittedly specified a little lower than the T8, but compensates with it's carbon frame. The Vitus Escarpe CR has almost identical spec to the Nukeproof Reactor Alloy Comp (Reactor has a Super Deluxe rear shock, but otherwise identical), and costs almost exactly the the same, yet features a carbon frame, which no one else offers for at least $500-1000 more.

    @@gpearce11 Mythique has an SLX derailleur at least. Is the Fox 34 a notably better fork than the Z2?

  • @gpearce11

    @gpearce11

    3 жыл бұрын

    @@Cadams7 The Marzocchi Z2 is basically a budget Foz 34 (likewise the Z1 is a budget 36), using a heavier Rail damper compared to the Grip damper in the 34. As for the SLX derailleur, the only noticeable performance difference between SLX and Deore 1x12 is weight (SLX is approximately 250g lighter), so the difference between a full Deore and Deore w/ SLX derailleur would be negligible, as almost all SLX weight saving comes from the cassette and crankset.

    He has a good video about some budget hardtails under $1000 that have pretty slack geometry for trails, but good luck finding anything available right now. kzread.info/dash/bejne/lZuFybOndceeZ6w.html Feels like manufacturers are waiting for 2022 models rather than working to restock 2021 models. I know that some places like Fezzari have wait lists where you can buy now and you'll get it in about three months, but that's a long time to wait imo. I'm still riding my ten year old 26er that I've kitted out and was thinking about upgrading and passing by old bike to someone to have a solid bike to start on, but it's impossible to find anything in stock in the US right now, can't imagine how it is over there. Anyways, hope you can find something good, and I'll try to find the video to link you so you can see the bikes and their kit/geometry. Cheers
