Bike check! All about my mountain bikes and what they're for
Спорт
Today we'll do an update on my mountain bike fleet, which is now the best it has ever been. Sure, I've always had capable bikes, but I've also had decision paralysis when choosing which one to take out on the trail. Now, each bike has a very specific purpose.

this is exactly what it’s like when i explain my guitar collection, to people who don’t know about the hobby they have no idea why i need so many, to them it’s a bunch of guitars (or bikes), they may be different colors or shapes, but “they’re all just guitars (or bikes)”, but to people who are interested in the hobby know that some are better for different tasks, and some for others, and it’s also nice having multiple just for the unique experience

As a fellow Smol rider I appreciate you sharing your experiences that are not widely known to others. I just moved from a hard tail to a full sus 29er and yea it’s big even for small.

Me explaining to my wife why I need a new part for my bike
Bear with me. 😉 Despite I’m no mountain bike rider (nor trial or mud, etcetera) this channel has really become one of my favourites. Short story: I haven’t been biking for years. A slipped disc (second one) caused problems with my left leg’s strength and nerve signals were f*****. So I sold my bike (hybrid) two years ago. However, since slipped discs have a tendency “to move/relocate its problems” the strength and the nerve’s signal (knock on wood) has returned. So, I bought a new bike last week (a hybrid arrived with DHL) and since I don’t want to challenge faith (I turned 63 the 10th) I have to wait for the snow and ice to melt. Winter arrived in March?! Gee… 😬 Anyhow, I really have enjoyed watching these videos, and even if I’m not into mountain bikes there are a lot of good things I picked up. One of those things are all the different bike parts-manufacturers and retailers, Seth mentioned. The thing is that I have never ever heard about any (maybe some) of those, and now a door flung open to lots of cheap, useful and good parts, on e.g. Amazon. (Amazon is rather new here in Sweden). It’s funny how people stumble upon something and then find themselves “hooked”. Thanks! Anders, Stockholm 🇸🇪
@AndersMagrioteli

@@waldojpg, with all due respect, I didn’t write in here to be lectured in where I do my shopping. Shouldn’t you rant Seth’s a** as well, when he recommends Amazon as retailer in som parts? I regret writing anything, since the focus landed on Bezos (sick) wealth.

@@AndersMagrioteli I urge you to not be put off by the incessant responses that always come. Hazard of the internet, and there's always one that thinks people actually care about their narcissistic opinions. (e.g. Lukas Walter) Anyway, I share your view on this channel opening a part of the sport that I find really fun! It feels great to get out in the mountains (munros, here) and just soak it all in. The parts availability is probably about the same here in northern Scotland as they are for you. That can be hard to grasp by most of the children posting from the US. Enjoy your renewed hobby, and keep on keeping on! 👍

Literally just did the same thing & figured out what my ideal fleet is going to be! Downloaded all my strava data & compared what type of bike I was riding to what the ideal bike is for that scenario. Pretty insightful activity! Distilled the fleet down to 3 bikes: 1) Long-travel enduro for riding out west & bike-parks, 2) short-travel hard-tail for general trail riding, 3) "all-road" for urban commuting/road rides/gravel/bike-packing, probably will get 2 wheelsets for pavement & gravel/off-road. Maybe a DJ down the road, but we only have 1 decent spot where I live.

hardtails work pretty well on pump tracks and dirt jumps if you just pump the tyres up a lot. they take a bit of extra effort sure, but theyre still fun in my eyes

@@sufyanm4661 Oh for sure, a HT works fine on pump-tracks. I would want a DJ for actual steep/lippy dirt-jumps tho, but we only have 1 spot in my city. Would be fun to bring on road-trips tho where they are legit sweet tracks.

That's my exact set up. 160mm mullet enduro/park bike, 140mm trail hardtail, road bike with wide tire clearance and a fixie for riding and locking up around town. Between the 4, I am covered.
I 3D printed a part for the head tubs for airtags so it's got a hidden GPS locator for when it grows a pair of legs and walks off!

2:15 - “Bird spokes. Its almost like building your wheels out of Shtring! But it is a really well engineered Shtring. Its Shtrong!!”
I enjoyed getting to see more about all of your bikes. Thank you for sharing.
I have a Nishiki (?) Red Wolf City 1x3 (normal 3-speed) 26" stiff bike that I've had since 2011. I've had the rear hub replaced, and I've also replaced the saddle and pedals. What's fun about it is it's so obscure. I've seen one other image of one online, in an image result preview of a deleted ad, also here in Sweden. Anyway, as much as I'm into this fairly newfound interest in biking, I really feel like my little bike can accomplish anything. I have very strong legs, so I almost always ride in third gear.
Currently have 3 hardtails. An aggressive AM/trail for shredding, an xc bike for those long rides with friends and my old 26er gt avalanche that i mostly use for urban riding and dirtjumping
I love having a garage full of bikes. My old trail bike, new trail/enduro, dh, bmx and djs
ive had a passion/interest for mountain biking for the longest time. i haven't had the means to buy a bike and go out on rides, but after saving for many, many months, i am finally getting a little closer to my dream of owning my own mountain bike :)
Had 29" wheels on the previous bike, went 27.5" for the extra maneuverability. 29" feels faster but the stuff I ride is so gnarly that 27.5" seems to work better in the chunky stuff. A lot of west coast riders are heading back to 27.5" so we may see a resurgence of that wheel size. I'm nearly 6' tall for reference.
Seth I just wanted to say, I haven't ridden a bike in over a decade and yet I love your content. You're incredibly engaging and endearing as a host! Keep it up!
I needed this with all the sponsorship changes and new bikes. Great video!
Love the videos and custom builds for your bikes. Love the content, keep up the great work
When I saw a notification From Berm Peak Express I got a bit exited
That titanium bike is beyond cool.
That DB Assault took me back to my childhood. I used to race a 20" DB Assault from around '96. Loved that bike.
As a person trying to get into riding your videos are always fun and helpful
I'm starting to build a fleet. So this was interesting and informative .Always good when we get an upload. !!!!!
That sage is just so gorgeous, i love the half raw ti and the back custom blue paint.
Love the videos. I watched one of your older ones and saw that you’ve came down to Northwoods Trails in Hot Springs, Arkansas a while ago. So much of it has changed. The bridge over the dam is finished and many other trails. I thought it’d be cool if you came down here again and did a big ride. Might be a cool video. But on the chance that you do come down. Can you announce it on your KZread channel, because I don’t have any social media.
Seth - for April Fools, do the same but with non-MTBs in your household.... the lineup might contain the knee-scooter, the gator, the shop/test bikes, the kid's bikes, find a road bike somewhere, etc.
Seth, your videos have a good flow, I don't want to fast forward because I feel like things are being redundant. As you say, I find it entertaining.
All I have is a mid 80s Marin Eldridge and 11 Nail Trail 29er. Make them do for everything.
Here in Maine. Just found your channel. Love it. Love that Sage. Lefty, awesome! Had an F600 and F1000 way back when.
Man, a reminder of how poor I am lol…😭 Stuck with my Walmart bike so hopefully something good can come with the recent buzz with the bike market. It would be pretty interesting to hear your take on what’s happening with the bike industry recently Seth in a video or something.
I just took the Mac-Ride adapter off my bike and it's a bitter sweet thing. My 5yr old daughter is now too big to ride along, my knees were having to flop out to the sides and hurting, but she's still a little small to pedal around with me on the trails. Can't wait till she's out shredding the trails with me.

Shout out to the "dad bikes" also highly recomend the shotgun seats and handle bars great entry for getting litter ones passionate about riding and developing balance and steering feedback!!
Use copperpaste on the surface where the screwhead sits on to align the calipers. Works great for me for several years, maguras are the only brakes i ever had.
If you ever do get a park/dh bike, get an older one with 26" wheels, they're stronger than 29" and they're a lot more fun if you don't care about all out speed. Either that or a 27.5"/26" mullet
Would love to see you do some long ride videos again!

cool vid man, I've been wanting to see more bike checks and this is like the epidemy of bike checks
It's good to be the king . . . I have 3. One vey old Trek rigid, one very new hardtail with a 120mm 29er fork, but set up for 27.5 plus 2.8s with Cushcore XC inserts at the moment. No worries, wanna ride the MDH in August? Just swap on a set of 29ers. I too am shorter and started riding on 26". 29s can get a bit rangy and slow to turn in in tight stuff. Last is a bike like Alexander's, only stock. You just did a complete once-over for his birthday so you know what it is. Although I do run Cushcore XC too.
Hey Seth, I'm a long-time sub scriber, since you were living in Florida shredding the urban on your black and white bike, and I just got to say I love your videos. Love the bikes. Loved seeing you recover from injury an come back 10-fold. LOVE that when i have my captions on, when you have you, music playing it says " groovy Music" lmao!!! YES!!! One thing i do want to see more of is you shredding!! its straight up therapeutic. I am putting together a Giant Boulder SE 26" bike for free off of Face Book Market Place so Guests at my house (Nieces, Nephews and basically anyone that wants to come and hit some Mildly intermediate trails. Ide love some advice on how to put this thing together properly (Berm Peak style) so these kids could enjoy themselves on it. I would also be open to shipping it to you to do a Bike build and putting it up for sale towards a charity of your choice. Please let me know.
I highly recommend the wolftooth bar and tools, they have a much better mechanism for staying the bar than the pro bike tool ones I have that looks similar to those lazine ones
Lovin the new vids Seth, keep up the good work!
Great video and a gorgeous bike. I chose a Why Wayward V2 that kind blurs the line of trail riding and off road exploration.
Another strong positive comment for Revgrips. That video from two years ago still plagues our (UK Revgrips importer) social media marketing but these follow up inclusions really helps :)
Amazing collection thank you.
Descision fatigue from having too many bikes is a problem I would like to have.
Nice fleet, I used to have a nice fleet myself. But, bums stole both my full suspension and my favorite Hardtail 😫😤 I'm slowly building back up though. Be safe everyone🙏🏽✊🏽✊🏽
Does anyone else call the mixed wheels “mullet”? That’s what I know it as
TIL Seth and I are the same height! You don't show it, man - whenever somebody says they're "short", I expect them to then say they're closer to 5' 6". Thanks for sharing your perspective on tire sizes for us short dudes - my riding buddies kept trying to get me to switch to 29ers, and I could never get it through to them that it just doesn't make sense on my 28in inseam.
I have 4 bikes, one for each of the riding styles/conditions I ride, and they are all ridden as often as possible. So yeah, ya need lots of bikes!
The black hardtail is beyond absurd, but in a good way xD
i just ride my 2004 trek hardtail 100mm travel that has only the frame as the original part, I love it get i back from the bike shop today so i can get back to riding the bike that is older than me ;D
If there was any time to get a DH bike, it would be now. Considering there are now 8 shuttle access bike parks within striking distance of WNC. Snowshoe, Bryce, Massanutten, Sugar Mtn, Beech Mtn, Jarods Place, Rock Creek, and Windrock. Quite a lot of choices for those summer weekend trips.
As always, a witty content... Wish i could have a fleet of bikes too
The foam/lefty/berd bike is aspirational for me.
After selling all my motorcycles , I dusted off my 24 year old Marin Shoreline Trail . I’m ready to do something I haven’t done in a long time . Love your channel and I am surprised how much is available at affordable prices !
Entertaining plus justifies the need for more than one bike ☺️ I have a penny farthing, roadie, eBike commuter & 90s MTB, dreaming of adding a modern MTB with full sus later 🚴
Seth what about another checkup on the bikes u kept at the storage? At those lockers???

Great video. I went the 'fleet route' also.
Not seen a manual trainer for donkies years! We built one in the garden from planks of wood back in the day! Showing myself my age now has to be 25 years ago jezzo I'm getting old lol
Sweet lineup. Love my Ti bikes.
69° headtube angle on the dirtjumper? Nice
Ain't no one like this dude, love ur vids man
N+1 IS LOVE, N+1 is life. Oh, and if that Bern spoke ride quality thing? You can get that "off the shelf" with Spinergy wheels. Have a set of GX alloy 700c on my ti monster cross rig. Great wheelset.
Love it, Seth. Another benefit to at least 2 bikes is always having a backup ride when your other is in the shop or down for repairs. Whatever happened to your single speed experiment though. I feel like that's a gap in your fleet.
The rail is a thing of beauty
Cool, I’m back to 2 bikes. 1 for town, 1 for country ☯️.
Seth fantastic delivery as usual
I have 1 bike a Polygon D7se which I use for everthing, from commuting to and from work, popping down the shops, hitting dirt trails and bike parks. I fitted some mudguards front and rear though as I find I get soaked within minutes when riding onroad in the rain, not so much offroad. Weird that.
Seth, please get a street trials bike again! It would be soo cool!
I'd love to see a detailed solo video on the "dad bike" just to see how the kids seat works
Omg aligning my Magura MT7s is literally a nightmare, funny you mentioned it about the MT8
I’m 6’1” with my shoes on. My favorite bike has 27.5 wheels. I ride it all the time. I don’t think they’re going anywhere.
Have always enjoyed your videos.
Thanks for showing us your bikes! I'd love to see you build up a slopestyle (full suspension dirt jumper) bike, downhill bike or bmx just for fun. Very interested in what parts you choose etc. P.S. You should try a Maxxis Dissector as a front wheel for your Sage bike. I see a lot of people going for these over the DHF/DHR 2 for their short travel trail bikes.

Food for thought with the shifter company going dark is that they may have stolen the design from somewhere, and the sudden increase in exposure/sales probably got them worried with lawsuits

Magura needs to put bleed pores on their calipers so you can just beheld the brakes like cars. I saw someone did it with their Shimano. Super easy and no more removing the capers and adjusting.
