The fastest bike brand you've never heard of

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

If you follow downhill racing, you already know Neko Mulally has been building and racing his own bike frames under the banner of "Frameworks", but for most of us, this would be unthinkable. For a downhill racer at Neko's level, a bike sponsor is a huge part of your income, your entry fees, and a whole lot more. By giving that up to build his own Frames, all of that is on Neko's plate. Today we're going to find out what would possess this man to do that.

The amount Neko has learned developing these frames is unreal. A fascinating glimpse into what drives a world cup DH racer from a product perspective

Yup, like learning it's better to have carbon for weight savings so he's starting with the rear triangle. But he knows carbon is better for the rest of the bike too. The money just isn't there for a mold yet. Funny thing is that he says he put his favorite things into this bike which is how a lot of downhill bikes are built. They're simply built to the favorite characteristics of a brand's top downhill racers

@joebruggman great reason for a full carbon bike. This is a fun project that's obviously an investment into creating a real bike company. Understable that carbon isn't the first material he's using

@joebruggman there is a lot more weight savings to be had in the frame than the rear triangle and much of it is higher up which definitely matters.

Definitely necessary when nobody knew what worked. This bike really doesn't have anything vastly different than other bikes on the market beyond it being made for one person. The process of creating a bike that has become an extension of my body on court has been hands down the most satisfying endeavour of my life so far. I tear up on it on the regular. Ambiguity intended. Don’t let anyone tell you there isn’t a better way if you believe it in your heart.

This reminds me of the early days of Transition Bikes. I bought the Bottlerocket largely because of the geometry. But it was also built of straight tubing. Nothing was hydroformed or shaped just for the sake of looking a certain way. It was built to function. And it came in raw aluminum with ZERO badges or stickers. I put the included transition logo on the bottom of the down tube because I thought it looked good down there. Consequently, most folks didn't ever see it. It looked completely home built and almost everyone that looked at the bike asked who made it. Loved that bike, primarily because of how it rode. But it was also a lot of fun talking to riders at the mountain about it. Good times!

Super cool, I wish more of the fine details were talked about here but it seems I can get that on his channel.

As a guy with an engineering aptitude (I was a commercial building engineer) it's usually how do we make this better. But also, how can we repair this faster or not repair it as often. Everything breaks. Knowing where they break and why saves a ton of money. Getting to play with materials was never an option for me, but I wish it had been! The empty paper with a design goal in your head and bringing that to reality is so satisfying!

WOW - much respect to this man, giving it up to do his own design. And who better to design & build them than a pro racer like himself?! This man will go very far in his ventures...

Neko is a wnc legend. When I was new to biking in high school I saw him out on the trail once and I’ve never been more excited

Steel frames are soooo comfortable! I have one and it has less vibration than my hardtail. I never thought about how stiffness makes perform better. What a legend this guy is! Thanks for sharing!

I have so much respect for people like Neko. People who get out and do it themselves are the lifeblood of progress on a larger scale. A lot of inventions that we use today were invented by someone who tinkered with what they has available, and evolved their knowledge towards a goal. Massive respect for this man!
