No visit to the historic town of San Miguel de Allende, Mexico would be complete without a guided tour of its top taco and tequila restaurants and venues. Luckily, our Inspirato host Jorge hooked us up with local gurus (Alma and her brother David) who dragged us all around the city center to experience top tacos, street tacos, tacos al pastor, fried grasshoppers, authentic mole, enchiladas, and enough tequila and mezcal shots and cocktails to make us forget half the evening :) Luckily, we got it all on video. In addition to the food and beverages, we got enough education on the city to make the previous day's official historic tour seem pretty redundant-just do the taco tour and you get two for the price of one!

We LOVE mezcal! We tend to stick to that when making “tequila” drinks at home and we often ask places to substitute when we’re out. Love that smoke flavor!

Love the places/food/drinks you shared with us, but how did you convince the kids to join? They reminded me of my 60 yr old boss at a 5pm meeting, asleep 😏

😆 They love doing these tours. Especially our son, he’s a foodies like us. But after so many snacks and a couple hours of walking… 😴 💤 They reach their end point.
Oooh. Eating grasshoppers. Flashbacks of SERE training, Summer of 1994. I guess I only ate ants during that summer. And as for picking the best one, no need to do that. Just say they're all good. What's up with the world constantly having to rank things? Mole is delicious. Pineapples are delicious. Street tacos where the grease soaks through not one but two corn tortillas are good too. They'd all be number one in my book.

Ah, yes... SERE. Did you eat the rabbit, too? Did you think the ants tasted like lemon? The grasshoppers were definitely lime :)

Absolutely. We LOVED the taco and tequila tour with Alma. We booked everything through our concierge with our travel club but I think this is their website: sanmiguelfoodtours.com/ The wine tour was at Cuna de Tierra. Here is their website: www.cunadetierra.com/

Do you ever get too buzzed to film after 3 drinks? I've never food hopped before, but I'm filling it. I might have to copy y'all.

LOL. I (Erin) certainly do! Phil never seems to be effected by a few drinks. But luckily we walked everywhere in San Miguel. I don't usually finish all my drinks either. But you can tell I was pretty buzzed by those last tequila sips. :)

No prob! We paid $343.35 for our family of 5. - I believe that was before tip. Alma is so knowledgable about the city and history that it was much more than just a food tour. It was a walking tour as well. Highly recommend!

Erin hates grapefruit and Phil hates raw tomatoes. But we’re all open to trying everything. We had a fantastic guide who took us to places that are well known for good food. It makes a difference when your tour is well vetted.
