We purchased a comm system in Spring 2019. Wanted voice commands because messing with buttons on the helmet while riding is not something I want to do; also easier for my spouse to deal with. The UClear was my initial choice, but after learning that the motion sensor was only on the top end device, and questioning the unique mic system, we went with the Freecom 4+ and have been very happy. Even riding with earplugs and modular helmets, it is plenty loud, and the sound quality is great. Thanks for another fun and informative review!

This is quite interesting. My driving school in Germany uses Walkie-talkies for communicating with students for Motorcycle lessons. The instructor usually follows behind in car and gives instructions. I always thought it was due to the modular nature and the fact that students can use their own headphone for hygiene. But range seems like a good added benefit

Yup. My motorcycle club has been using them for years. Works way better than any Bluetooth based device when it comes to communication range. And if you can even program some of the baofeng uhf radios to be able to communicate with these Motorola units. Although you need to check with your country's laws if they're legal to use in your area. The advantage is range and has no limits to how many riders can join in.

I recently picked up a Freecom 4+ and I gotta say my experience is very good. The JBL speakers really do make a huge difference, with earplugs in they sound fantastic. Awesome video as always. Got a vnet in june, the volume is basically impossible to adjust while riding, and the power-off button is right next to the volume up button and DOESN'T require a long-time press. 50% chance of shutting it off. I found it to be quite loud without earplugs, though with earplugs it might be a little too quiet depending on the type of music or your partner's voice. Also, the intercom only works for two people at a time, you have to switch between "channels"... So basically, it's a 2-person intercom. However, for 115 CAD for a dual pack, it's still worth it imo. Plus you can share it your second unit with whoever it is your riding. If range becomes an issue (never was for me), you can always make a phone call. Sound is great even without a full-face or windshield (riding buddy rides a sportster and wears a Bell Rogue.

I use a combination of a cheap china reciever like the BT-S3 (QA is hit or miss) and a adapter cable to a fit a kenwood/baofeng walkie talkie. Twice the hassle and a whole lot cables but you get both the fidelity of the bluetooth and the range of a walkie talkie. Still looking on how to mod a CB to use the system for that ultra long range thou

Our group has now upgraded to Cardos Packtalk Slim coming from other Cardo units. The new generation is really good and we are quite happy with it. What I dont understand is that Shoei has locked itself in with Senna. It was previously my go to helmet choice. Now I have to look for a new manufacturer. I dont understand why a helmet company would do such a thing. I can more easily convince myself to buy a new helmet as to convince my whole group to switch headset brands.

Thank you for another great informative video sir from your last one on communication devices my friends and I got the pack talk. It has been a great device for us. Several people have called my phone while I was riding alone and they didn't realize I was on my bike. And I ride a 2006 Harley Davidson Softail Standard so I do have a bit of noise.

Same here. Had Sena 20s, was fine on its own, but unusable with 3 riders. Sena customer support was horrible and left me with same feeling that I would never buy a Sena product again. Have since gone with Cardo Packtalk units and they have been great. The main issue with the pairing and crackling sound of the Sena was resolved and no issues with the Cardo.

As always my friend, another great vid with great info. Thank you for doing them. Sometimes you would like comms after a current set dies but do not have much money at the time so Sena stays on the shelf. Dang, just saw this and probably when you were doing the actual review I was buying the V6 BUT I only paid $29 for it so I could not pass it up to try, and it is the TWO pack! I love auctions AND it does what I need it to do-Phone/NAV/etc AND it works well talking to other riders BUT only one at a time. I mostly ride solo so it works with the main functions. I DO also have a good WT comm system that reaches out a few miles. Anyway, I found the Vnet to have pretty clear sound and works well once you do get used to those tiny buttons. I have it down now, its just the OFF button is the littlest of them all. I fit them in my helmet to get the best sound I can get with placement. So I can talk/hear music up to around 75ish (full helmet, 50/50 knobs tires) also cement the main into its base, since the little push release somehow was getting pushed. I also give it a spray with silicon just to seal it a bit better than factory. Used it a year and a half now and its working fine. Would I need to do that with the others- Probably not but if it bumps up the life of it for next to nothing then all good. Maybe I just got a decent set since I am sure qual control is not strict!. When it dies, set #2 will go on and by then the inexpensive will be good with the leaps of tech. When I can get a better comm I will and it should last until the tech changes. SO even though this vid was made a while ago we were getting them at the same time! As always, take care and be safe in your travels my friend!

Acoustician here, the SLM (sound level meter) readings at 04:37 actually seem to show different results. The Uclear at the bottom left is set to "Max", as opposed to what I assume is the average for the others. I would also question if that SLM measures average over time or just an instantaneous response. I wouldn't put too much faith in an SLM like that, useful for indicative ballpark numbers, but I guarantee you they are not accurate to 0.1dB

I was looking to see if anyone noticed that 3 of the four systems were labeled as the wrong brand at the same point in the video, so not only were they listed incorrectly but also had different settings on the SLM. My search for audio comparisons between these continues I guess.

They work well for noise isolation meaning no need for earplugs and they produce really good quality sound with the need to have them ridiculously loud meaning you can still hear the outside world perfectly well. They're super comfy and small as well so the don't catch on your helmet when putting it on. Top video as alway guys 👍

Great video, as always. I’m new to the sport, and these vids are a huge help in helping me get oriented and educated. So, now a question... How do I treat these devices in the winter? I won’t be riding again until April, most likely, and having recently gotten two pack talk slims, I would hate to have them be dead after a month or two of use, come spring. Just leave them on the charger? Leave them off, unplugged? Let them run down?
