It seems that you are on an impression from QD-OLED and you overated. Put it side by side to G8 Neo and compare them in bright scenes and seperately in dark scenes while gaming. In most cases probably in bright scenes G8 Neo will be a winner because the visible contrast will be higher in G8 Neo if we exclude some black pixels in QD-OLED, in dark ones QD-OLED will be a winner as expected. Your tests are not entirely meaningful and they don't take into account all the situations. It's rather true because common reviewers show these advantages and disadvantages directly comparing these technologies, not by remembering what was seen or some numbers showed.

Just got finished watching something close to 3 hours of your monitors reviews. By far the most informative reviews on the subject that I've seen. One thing I would love to hear your thoughts on is recommendations with a focus on creative professionals. All the videos I watched seem to speak to gamers who might care about color accuracy. While I have been able to scrape most of the relevant information I need from watching the color performance chapters, it would be great to hear your take on what you think the best options are for creative professionals who need color performance first but want gaming chops on the side.

I have had the AW3423DW and have had it for about 3 weeks now. I was on the fence about ultrawide and the curvature coming from a 27 inch 1440p 165hz panel. I have absolutely no problems with daylight or normal room lighting (Window right to my left). No glare or reflections at all in my set up. The HDR is absolutely unbelievable. But the real game changer is the response times. All the animations especially in isometric games have absolutely no blur. Everything is so crisp. I've noticed it feels smoother and more responsive (and better personal performance) playing shooters at around 120 (because of the increased performance costs at max settings) vs 165hz on my old panel. I have a 3080ti and it runs the panel very well. If you use any DLDSR features you it will bring your rig to it's knees at 1.78x at 4587 x 1920 or 2.25x at 5160 x 2160 but the clarity is more than worth it if you can get enough frames. On games that are finicky with the 21:9 The Oled technology is made for this. Pitch Black bars on the side for 16:9 with absolutely no light bleed is amazing. I was on the fence about the curvature but I am so glad I made the switch. The subtle curve with the ultrawide makes sense as it envelopes your peripheral vision and makes it more usable. I would highly recommend making the switch of you the cash and Horse Power to run it!

Also pro tip. For gaming keep the monitor in "Creator Mode" and in "RGB" in the color gamut selection. If not, the monitor is extremely over saturated (like a Samsung smart phone) and you won't be able to get contrast right in games.

It depends on where you are planning on putting it. If you want to put it in a place where you are sure there won't be light reflections on the curved screen, ok. I'd like a curved monitor, but the best places for my computer all have light sources somewhere behind me that would cause glare issues. That's the problem with a curved screen. You can't alter its angle a bit to avoid a reflection as easily as you can with a flat screen.

Great to hear you got one! I'm on the market for such a monitor myself, since I'm going to build my very first gaming setup soon! I got a few questions: -Tim showed in one of his tests that on low fps, like 60 or 80, overshoot/undershoot could increase substantially (overdrive on fast I think?) . Is this really an issue or are you not going to notice it? - IPS panels tend to have IPS glow and backlight bleed, do you notice these two yourself when in a dark room with dark content displayed with max brightness? -Is there anything else you notice you don't like about the monitor? I truly dee this as a really good first monitor for me, but I want to exclude 'cons' and from that make a decision. Thanks in advance!

I know right. This monitor is so good. I got mine for £470 on Amazon. The lack of motion blur or VA smear makes me wonder why bother with IPS unless you really can't adapt to the curve. With the dimming zones on at all times the SDR black levels and no IPS glow is a winner. I was playing a game yesterday and then checked out the UFO alien test for motion blur as the monitor was fully warmed up by then and zero dark smear at 240hz using the highest response time setting (not MBR which is awful). To me IPS is a no go anymore. I hope Samsung continues making these type of VA panels in the future.

Just picked up the M32U. I highly recommend it. Decent contrast for an IPS, moderate glow, good viewing angles, very good pixel response with manageable overshoot, low input lag, nicely saturated colors, VRR, nice immersion. I use it for PC exclusively, as I also have a 77” LG OLED I use for my consoles. After a brief foray into the world of ultrawides (LG 34GN850) I found myself starved for vertical space and image sharpness after switching from the Acer XB321HK (2016 60 Hz 4K 32-incher) so I’m selling the LG UW. That’s why the Alienware AW3423DW doesn’t tick my boxes, even though I can’t deny its OLED virtues and HDR prowess. My next monitor is going to be a 32” OLED since even the recent 42” LG C2 is just too overwhelming for a desktop display… Just my two cents. The M32U is a really good product, my bridge solution until 16:9 gaming OLEDs appear.

I have a hard time trying to compare a higher end monitor from years ago to the new stuff available now to try to decide if I really need to upgrade or if what I have still is pretty good. Of course we all know tech tends to move pretty fast so maybe I am missing out. Any chance you could compare my monitor with the newest ones? Also, I upgraded from a ASUS Strix 1080ti to a EVGA 3080 FTW3 12GB GPU in case this has any relevance on the monitor choices. Thanks!

After jumping into PC gaming a year ago I was never completely satisfied with PC gaming until I started gaming on the C1. Now my PC gaming experience is like the console gaming experience but without having to choose between fidelity vs performance mode. I moved both my PS5 and switch dock from the TV room to my desk, so now all my gaming is in one place. Thanks for this excellent roundup of all this information! I'll definitely look into your more in-depth reviews for a lot of these! One small thing I noticed while watching: I found myself frequently rewinding to pick up on information that I missed. If you had some sort of text on screen that covered the information you're talking about it would probably make the video much easier to follow. The footage you're showing looks great, but doesn't convey much information to an average viewer like me (plus, with the names all being combinations of letters and numbers, it's very easy to miss the name and have no idea what monitor you're actually talking about.) It's extra work, but it'll probably do a lot to help viewers retain information, especially on these roundup videos where many viewers are hearing these names for the first time!

I just noticed the name of the monitor is usually at the bottom left of the screen... Either way, a lot of info can be easily missed when it's audio-only (like at 2:22 where people like me who often need audio and visuals to retain technical information need to go over that several times to retain all the information you cover.)

Will be interesting to see what frame rates we can archive in 4K when the new GPUs hit the market. Since GPU prices were very high, I still kept my GTX 1060. I do not expect the new GPU generation to be way more expensive than the current prices, so it seems to make sense to wait ~3-4 months and then possibly buy a GPU that should be able to handle 4K better.

I've seen the 34GN850 go for as low as 600 EUR currently here in Europe. Compare that with the AW3423DW which is not going to be available until end of September AND is pretty bad in normally light rooms with daylight I'd say that makes it a fairly good deal. The G9 comes with a VA panel so it's basically useless right from the start and the form factor just looks soo stupid and is simply inferior to normal 21:9 or something with more vertical pixels like the 38 inch models.

  • @kreativeGG

    @kreativeGG

The AW3423DW is not bad in normal lighting conditions. It is only bad im overly bright conditions with the lamps directly aimed at it, which is not how a normal room is set up.

Yeah, PC Centric gave a strong warning that it is NOT good in normally lit rooms (it is dimmer than even average monitors in the same category) and combined with its screen coating and curve means it has a difficult time handling and diffusing reflections and ambient light. That seriously non-standard subpixel layout leads to really ugly, blurry tex. If you're familiar with chromatic aberrations in photos, it looks like that. An unwelcome red/blue fringing. I'm sure the next batch of QD-OLED monitors will do better.

I honestly still don't see 4k monitors as being worth it. Especially 4k 120Hz or higher. No GPU can actually run any games I want to play at that resolution without having to turn down the graphics settings a lot which just defeats the purpose of having a 4k monitor in the first place. And if it can run a game at 4k then running it at 4k and then downsampling to 1440p to remove aliasing will most of the time be preferable anyways.

These 32" 4k monitors prices are just insane. Ridiculous. Better buy a new high end gaming pc in that price. As far as oled goes, its not realistic to have both multipurpose non oled monitor and oled monitor on a pc desk, there is no space for both. Better just leave the pc desk alone and buy big ass lg oled 65" and game on it.

I have it placed a little over arms length and even for that size, its so smooth and relaxing on the eyes. The only drawback i see is that i wish it had an even higher refreshrate of 144 or 165. But you barely notice cause the pixel smoothness at 120 is even better than a 240hz non oled monitor!! and indeed when you have to read or type. the screen tends to dimm on you after a minute or so. But a quick flip of the mouse on the document/browser and its back again.

For the 4K category I went with the Eve Spectrum (matte) about a month ago, and the deciding factors were I liked the more simplistic design of everything (including the stand), but the fact the USB-C port was capable of delivering 100W of power along with video out made it ideal for the MacBook Pro with an M1 Pro my new employer provided me with. It's able to keep the laptop fully charged and I can connect everything else to the USB hub on the back of the monitor making for a super clean setup. Since I bought this monitor myself it also lets me get back to dual displays for my personal desktop (my personal and work setups share the same desk) and dive into 4K gaming for the first time. It's pricey for sure, but the full feature set has made it very ideal (so far) for both work and play. Only gripe is for some reason the webcam I have connected to the USB hub on the monitor causes me to have to re-allow it for use with some chat services I use for work. The large, external power brick is also less than ideal because the cable that plugs into the monitor isn't long enough to work with my standing desk while leaving the brick on the floor, but this can be solved with better cable management on my part.

@@komethh The only odd issue I'm having at the moment id Teams on the Mac will lose the security permission for the web cam, which means I have to revoke then re-grant the permission for it to work. I also tend to use Amphetamine during the work day so my display is always on, and enabling it in the morning causes the screen to go black and then I have to log in again, but after that it's fine. Not sure if this is something with the USB hub and the Mac (even after updating the OSD and hub firmwares a few nights ago), but those are the only two glaring issues I've had/continue to have and could be unrelated to the monitor itself. Otherwise it's been a solid monitor for work. I've got it running at 144Hz for buttery smooth transitions between virtual desktops, and all my other peripherals seem to work just fine via the USB hub.

I just picked up the MSI MAG 27xxx-QD 1440p Monitor, happy to see it still on the list, cause it wasn't cheap (for me at least). So far it's been great besides a weird bug- got locked to 59hz in windows settings, (switching from DP to HDMI and back fixed it) and a small QC issue- barley visible 2 inch blue spot (light bleed?) on black loading screens in a dark room, just above the logo on the bottom bezel, but it's not visible with any image on-screen, so I'm not going to sweat it. Was a breeze to unbox and setup, I really like how they packaged it. The stand is very compact with a hole for cables, and I really like the joystick for the OSD (1 click to quickly check the refresh rate and if G/ free sync is working right)
