You heard me right, true believers! Ben Reilly, also known as the amazing Scarlet Spider, is a wonderfully fun ken-doll himbo in the new hit film - Across the Spider Verse. And you know what? That's okay. I understand that a lot of Scarlet Spider fans are rightfully upset with how he was handled in the film, but I've had a chance to sit back and take a better look at the whole situation. Sure, Ben has had a rough string of bad luck with Spider-Man Beyond and becoming Chasm, but to me this is a lot better than that. Having everyone's favorite blonde webhead be a bouncy, muscular bro in a feature film is a far cry from how Marvel has been treating him in the comics.

The edgy Ben would still be there too and imo, it would elevate how comedic he is by seeing how Spider Ben reacts. Also I didn’t really like Jessica Drew in this movie, mainly just her design. I hate the pregnant Jessica Drew. I would’ve preferred Ultimate Spider-Woman.

Gotta be optimistic about it, just like how Ben Reilly is always optimistic. At least he was on the big screen and looked cool.

I get why some people really didn’t like this character choice, but personally, I think he was hilarious, so I didn’t really mind these changes. But, I think it would be better if they had Kaine be the moody Andy Samberg himbo, and have Ben be an optimist foil for him played by Cristopher Daniel Barnes.

@@Delta21OnYT well I'm glad you liked the suit at least 🤣🤣 Funny story: It was a misprint that made the spider LEAN-TO THE SIDE of the chest I tried to get redone so that they could put the spider in the CENTER 🕷️ But they said "what's done is done" and to live with it ! It was an ANNOYING pet peeve that it wasn't in the CENTER 😤 But over time it grew on me But I'm always happy to take Pete's place while he's out of commission

Anyone noticed how when he was reminiscing about his past, the 2 Spider-women were checking Ben out.

himbo ben reilly is what i didn't know i wanted and deserved, i love him so much also, from what i've read, and what i've heard, the clone saga *did* lead us around in circles with the "who is the real spidey" thing, but the writers tried to make the best out of a confusing situation, and made some really meaningful stuff out of it so you know what? yeah, i'm gonna check that clone saga epic out

Point well made - as rough as the Clone Saga as an increasingly spurious “event” got, the great twist in the beginning was that Ben, the supposed-dead clone who had the full memory and entire identity of Peter Parker as of 5 years ago (and knew the entire time he’d permanently “lost” everything in his life) basically came to Peter’s rescue at arguably the worst emotional and psychological period of his life, made him so endearing to a lot of people. A reminder of why Peter is such a wonderful character, while feeling distinct from Peter, with tons of potential for “lost years” stories. I can’t believe that “make him a crazy villain” is the only idea they have for him these days. Loved the Spider-Verse appearance!! He represented his era, he was very fun and funny every second he was on-screen, and Samberg performed that take on him perfectly. As a realistic Ben fan, it’s more than I ever could have expected, haha

i've always wanted a adaptation of the clone sage that was a redo to epifise the spider brother parts.

I can’t shake the suspicion that Ben is only pretending to be a himbo in ATSV

I legitimately enjoyed the Clone Saga when it was coming out back in the day. Yeah, it was far from perfect and dragged a bit but the story beats we got out of it were really good, Kaine and Ben were excellent characters, and the spin off elements with the New Warriors were fun as hell.

Peter in booty shorts is something I didn't know I needed to see

I wasn’t into it as first but I won’t lie it grew on me. Combination of the joke being at the expense of the clone sagas sulk happy benjy. The other is Andy Samberg I can’t help it I love the energy he gives his roles.

Honestly this is exactly how I saw him I wasn’t upset exactly it would’ve been cool to see a serious and cool Ben Reilly but this one wasn’t the worst, man was just an abridged version of himself

We all love our Himbo who definitely ISN'T a clone

Think of it this way: Ben wasn't Ben. He was more like a personifciation of 90s writing tropes. The reason it sticks in my craw, is because Ben DIDN'T embody those tropes, and wasn't some snarling antihero. I get what they were going for, but it doesn't fit who Ben was as a character.

Ben Reilly from the universe where he's a broody mood

The thing is if they would have portrayed him accurately it would have gone over just as well if not better. He would have garner just as much interest. Being happy with just having him in the movie is one step above the least the filmmakers could have done.

I am happy that you put your heart and mind into each voice line, when you voice act for ben riley I don't mind the idea of ben riley in this film because scarlet spider in the comics was a plucky and fresh and blood hope you have a good weekend synth. Also you look like a perfect interpretation of a teenage version or college version, of ben riley.

For some reason, I haven’t been getting your videos in my notifications for a good bit, glad to have seen this in my recommended! I was okay, but not satisfied with how they portrayed Ben in the film, but with what you said, it gives me a more positive outlook on him! (Ps. Great dub at the end!!! The way i think about it is this is Ben from earth 94 before taking up the spidey mantle. In the spiderverse event in the comics they pull Spider-Man Ben Reilly from earth 94, calling him the greatest of them all.

Tbh I'm not really a fan of Spiderverses side character writing. Its 1 dimensional and relies too much on being a parody of their character descriptions or plot devices. These characters are only saved by Good Dialogue and Voice Acting. I wouldn't mind the parody approach as much if there was at least ONE other dimension added😭 I hope they address that in the next film because its becoming a tad too gimmicky and a bit of a crutch for them. Once or twice is cool...but when its EVERY side character over TWO FILMS...thats just a bit much😭

But every other that isn't the main cast is either a parody, meta gag(Ham, Pav and especially Noire and Ben) or at best there also a plot device(Peni and Hobie). I dont expect them to have major arcs but they should still have something more than artstyle, dialogue and voice work to carry them since all of that is just spectacle🤷‍♂️

TBH, if they’re gonna bring Kaine into the next movie. They may as well make him the next extreme and have him be the Spider-Man version of Shadow the hedgehog.

Around a minute and more into the video, those were my thoughts exactly. I thought he would’ve been way cooler if he just stood in the frames and didn’t say a word… It probably would’ve made me hate him less I’ll be honest, and he is my favorite Spidey… kinda hurt to see him be nothing more than a joke about how edgy the 90s were 😔 But hey, regardless of that, I’m still glad he got some recognition and I was happy to see my favorite Spidey with my personal favorite costume, up there with the big boys.

I had no problem with him being the joke and all. My biggest issue was the 1st impression that madr him feel yucky. Hopefully he gets a rematch because that design is amazing.

If this is your real voice, You should play Spider-Man.

I genuinely think we’re gonna see a lot more from him in btsv as he’s a part of Miguel’s group alongside Jessica, and it would be awkward to leave him out considering his proximity to two main characters. Also Jessica seems to be showing nuance as a character as she seems internally conflicted at the end of the movie.. so maybe we’ll see Ben get a more fleshed out character too ! Plus, considering all the research done on this movie, I don’t doubt they’re aware of how often Ben gets done dirty 😭 hopefully they continue the trend of going against the grain, like how they did with Peter B and giving him a happy ending finally. Maybe they’ll also give Ben a chance to thrive. Sry that’s lowk messy and lengthy but yeah lol

Think Kiane would be a better way to parody 90s edge. And have him and Ben bounce off each other while Ben actually acts like he does in the comics But in a multiverse full of Ben Reillys, him being an edge lord is pretty funny

Crazy enough I predicted this would happen but I didn’t get made a little deflated yes but it’s ok I get it he was the obvious joke I just wished they would’ve done it more like “hey I’m Ben and to explain who I am would take the whole films running time so no” and he’s just like friendly if not trying to see that the whole thing in the movie matches his crazy life.

Considering how long the og clone saga went on and the back and forth on whether or not Peter or Ben was the clone, I think any spider person would be hung up on that confusing mess. Also the fact that Ben doesn't seem to take Miguel all that seriously (Responding "yes, dad" when Miguel's giving out commands), while Miguel is acting all high and mighty is an interesting comment on 90s melodramatic storytelling vs modern day melodramtic storytelling. I def think that in the next film, Ben is gonna have a big heroic moment and defect from Miguel's team
