Dan Slott's 'The Clone Conspiracy' is one of the worst comics I've ever read, and it absolutely stands up as a bottom tier Spider-Man comic in every sense of the term. It's a ludicrously mean-spirited comic that seemed to only have been made to spit in the face of Scarlet Spider fans who'd simply wanted to see the character again after him being out of the spotlight for well over a decade. It just makes no sense to me that writers like Dan and Zeb Wells seem to only want to use the Clone Saga, and by extension Ben Reilly, to tear him and his stories down. I want one win for this character, Marvel. Ben Reilly deserves to be Spider-Man.

Hey synth, it's me Been surfing through the channel for a good while now Great stuff, I'm glad you're huge fan of me I can say that me and Pete have been through some DOOZIES Despite all the noise at marvel (And I can't say I'm looking forward to the future ) I like to look back on the things we do have My favorite years of all time was when I was taking Pete's place as "THE SENSATIONAL SPIDER-MAN" Quite a title for myself 😁 During that time me and Pete were like brothers He didn't care I was in his costume, or that I was swinging through his City It was like... he understood what it was for me, like ... The missing piece in my life I felt exactly like that during my " LOST YEARS " arc, I felt like I lost everything from that I never had... But being Spider-Man helped me... Being a hero helped me... I can say I miss that time in my life But despite what marvel has come to Don't beat up to Dan about it ( we'll ... maybe a little ) I've enjoyed looking back at the times I was a hero The first time I took on Venom ( and won the first time 😎🔥) Or The time Doc Ock was a girl ( that was weird ) And the times me and Pete were closer than the cap and his shield But I will say that despite the HORRIBLE abominations that marvel has produced There are no shortage of great Spider-Man stories Or Ben Reilly's thanks for everything bro 👍 Peace ✌️

Out of the betrayals Doc pulled, him calling Kaine an abomination probably hit the hardest. That scene felt like he just kicked a sick puppy

Its sad how marvels been treating ben reilly by always trying to make him evil for reasons, but no matter how bad it gets for ben i will always appreciate him for being my favorite marvel character and being the character to get me into spider man to begin with, in my eyes he will always be the spider man, the blonde brother of peter and kaine, the spider man who always moved forward no matter what comes his way, to me he will always truly sensational, hope you all have a amazing day and take care

It's why I regret ever having given even one volume of BEYOND a go, I don't care that Queen Goblin has a cool ass design (cuz she really does), I don't care that Mark Bagley drew for it (It's actually some of his worst work yet, nothing at all like is Ultimate Spider-Man work or even what he did for the Kindred Saga), The fact that they just had to bring Ben back to shit all over him is a knife. They just can't stop twisting To add insult to injury, the books that all this garbage takes place and all are drawn beautifully, and that's what people like Brian and Dan and even Nick, do, they hire these amazing artists to doll up and dress up and make the book look beautiful even though the content of the story is absolute ass I've said it over and over, any talent Bendis ever had went flushed down the toilet after The original Ultimate Spidey run, Ultimate End should have been his mic drop like Scottie Young's variant cover even showed, He should have retired then and there because Spider-Men II was a fucking joke, I have literally no investment in "Prime-Miles", or really any of the Post-Secret Wars schlock he shat out, nor Saladin Ahmed's following run, especially not the ULTIMATUM arc (Not once buying the idea that Ultimate Goblin could be made a lackey to ANYONE, especially not an edgy tryhard evil version of Miles), I couldn't care less I'm glad I stopped reading where I did and just took choice issues and volumes from Nick's run to at least see if I missed anything vaguely entertaining or cool Even that's subject for debate

I agree with Dan Slott's era being severely overrated. Though i do have a soft spot for Superior Spider-Man and i thought it gave Otto's character a new sense of direction (Until they threw all of the development out the window)

And even when they tried to give it another go with Christos Gage's sequel run, they fucked that up With another One More Day maneuver, The amount of hoops these fuckers jump through to maintain this unfathomable status quo just makes ya braindead trying to wrap your head around it

I think the reason why Marvel like Slott on spidey is because he was the guy more willing to play ball with no marriage with MJ. Heck he has some bad take on the MJ and Peter dynamic.

This is character assassination on a whole other level. It pisses me off to see what people can do to your favorite characters, and it sucks because it feels like you know the character more than anyone writing the stories.

This story would've been way better if it was just Under the Red Hood but with Gwen Stacy. A brand new corporation shows up thats taking over Parker industies and Oscorp. And a brand new Jackal is using clones of dead people. And it looks like Gwen is the one behind everything. And New Gwen is like "Grrr i hate you peter you were fucking spider-man this whole time and you didn't even kill norman osborn" And she controls all the clones using nanobots which means you can bring back anybody you want.

The more I find out how marvel editorial and some writers messsed up Spidey comics, the more I kinda get depressed.

Dan Slott is one of the worst Spider-Man comic writers in Marvel/Spider-Man history with the only comic run with Zeb Wells might be coming close second.

While I disagree strongly with your jab at spider-gwen, over all this is a great video. I'm so tired of writers taking out their anger towards a character in mainline comics because they think everyone agrees with them. I genuinely love Ben Reilly and It pisses me off that people still hold the opinion that "CLOne SaGA Is DUMB, THERefoR bEN SUCks".

He just had a story set during the clone saga written by the legendary J M Dematteis! It's Ben Reilly Spider-Man: The Humanity Agenda, and it's a PERFECT story for the character.

I really enjoyed this video and I completely agree with it. That being said, Dan Slott might find it and I don’t know if you aware of his history of appalling behavior towards online critics but it’s pretty bad. Fact is if he didn’t work in comics he probably wouldn’t be employed anymore. That’s how bad the behavior was.

I disagree on the point that Superior is bad, it is overrated, but I wouldn’t say bad. But other than that I agree this story was really terrible and Dan Slott writes some pretty bad stories for the character. Good video!

I liked Superior Spider-Man it was fine

To quote Hydroman’s clone from the 90’s cartoon “If you couldn’t do it right the first time, you shouldn’t have done it at all”.

If Synth reads this just know that I'm trying to upset considering your distaste like the Dan Slott era of Spidey comics I don't give Dan Slott's era of Spider-Man a pass nor do I think it's underrated cuz it's not. (Especially after seeing this comic you reviewed) But what I do give a pass are things about his run of Spidey that I really like and enjoy. Here's a quick list Spider Island, Big Time, Superior Spider-Man, Spider Verse (the best part of Dan's era) I also feel like Spider Verse was a great way to expand on Morlun and the rest of his family. Again I hope you understand if you somehow find and read this

Say what you will about Slott’s run but Spider-Island was epic. I enjoyed it for what it was. Slott was good at going, “Here’s an idea.” Then another writer would run with it. He set up Kaine’s return and then Christopher Yost took that and wrote a pretty fun Scarlet Spider series.

Agreed. Kaine Scarlet Spider was a great series and I feel it could have gone on longer. Too bad marvel keeps forgetting he exists, purposely or otherwise

I'd love to hear your thoughts on Spider Gwen's solo series before she migrated over to 616. I personally love that early era, and I think those early stories do a wonderful job of distinguishing her from, well, just the girl that peter snapped on accident. She was so compelling, its just a shame that she's more tied to the spiderverse mantra of 'just one alternate gwen amongst thousands of masked heros'. She's phenomenal in the movies, hands down. I'm just waiting for a comeback story that brings the punk and intrigue back to our blond (not ben) webslinger.

How funny this the same guy who had doc ock and spiderman swap minds yet he disses the clones of spiderman because of their introduction story isn't it wonder why Marvel screwed over Superior Spiderman and Otto Octivius just goes to prove no body is safe unless your Venom the X-Men etc

Define safe, as far as I see it Venoms getting milked and plastered all over the cosmology straight towards mediocrity and beyond. I'm also seeing a lot of X men that seemed innocent enough turn into straight up terrorist and war criminals lately.

Cyclops becoming the new Xavier for the X-Men due to the ending of hellfire gala 2023. Sinister becoming the ultimate X-Men villain.

Gwen was wearing Green Goblin colors. I wonder if JMS picked up on that when he retconned her relationship with Norman Osborn?

*shrugs* The fact that Spiderman is still running after ten years of this crap is a true testament of how stupid FANS are. If they stopped buying the comic Dan or whoever the latest depression crazed writer is would be fired.

Maybe we can get lucky and something good will happen to our boy in the new Spider-Man Ultimate series.

I’m sorry buddy, I love most of your content, but I really, really enjoyed Dan Slott’s run, Spider-Island, Spider-Verse, Big Time & Superior Spider-Man are some of the most fun I’ve had with Spider-Man, granted he did Ben Reilly a little dirty, but it’s still head and shoulders above Zeb. Slott was all about reminding you why Peter was so great, and I truly believe it was Marvel editorial that kept forcing Peter back down. In a world where Otto was the more efficient Spider, Peter was superior, on an island where everyone has Spider powers it’s Peter that is the one who will save the day, and in a Multi-Verse of other Spider-People is Peter’s smarts, courage and willpower that stopped the Inheritors. I’d also like to point out that Peter is my 3rd favorite Spidey despite growing up with him (1st Miles, 2nd Ben, 3rd Pete) but I don’t think it’s fair to dump on a run that helped remind me why I love Spider-Man, just because it wasn’t your cup of tea

I am Ben Reilly fan and I hate Clone Conspiracy, this comic ruin many things , but HOW GOD DAMN DARE YOU SAY THAT SUPERIOR IS OVERRATED, NO IT'S NOT , IT'S DEFINITELY UNDERRATED 😅😅😅

Overall this is a good video, but I think you need to find the balance between being frustrated at a story, and acting like a dick. I totally understand why you don’t like Dan Slott’s writing. But there were points in this video that went beyond fair criticism. That little bit about Slott having blackmail was just a shitty, unnecessary thing to say. You don’t have to go easy on his writing, call it as bad as you like, but don’t make the insults so targeted at him as a person. Comic writers aren’t celebrities, they basically see everything that is posted about them, and such personal attacks can really sting. I dig your passion, I really do, but a shitty comic is not a good enough excuse to demonize someone this hard. Once again, I thought you had a lot of good points, and I don’t mean to condescend, I just thought this was important to say.

Taking a character in a new direction doesn't equal making a character do shit he wouldn't (what slott did) This impacts MJ too, and the avengers. Everyone got fucked with, especially in superior. I have nothing against slott as a person but to say his writing is good in TCC is very weird

@@ianbruno237 “Out of character” is a very misleading statement in my opinion. While these characters do have some defining traits. They have been around for almost 100 years every writer has their own vision of what is “in character”.

Everyone pour one out for Ben Reily, he deserves better than this. 🫗
