Ben Reilly is Marvel's favorite Spider-Man to have kick the bucket when they want a "tragedy" for one of their Spidey stories, so it's no wonder that his time among the reaper has become a bit of a joke among fans. From the Clone Saga to Spider Verse to Spider Geddon to the Clone Conspiracy, he's REALLY gone through some rough years. When a character's gone out the way Ben has, to the point of it being in the DOUBLE DIGITS, maybe it's time to start wondering if that drawing board you threw in the firepit back in the early 2000s might have come in handy every once in a while?. Still true believers, your favorite synthetic voice is here to go into painful detail on every single time our titular blonde, hooded wallcrawler has been sent out to pasture by the ever lovely writers and editors at Marvel Comics. I also got at angry at the ending of The Dark-Web storyline okay Ben invaded New York with a army of Demons but all he wanted was to be helped with his memories that were taken from him. Peter had to understand that that’s all Ben wanted

@@Tuttyoff Know what? I'll say fair. Part of Ben is discovering who he is to himself - finding himself as his own person. He deserves to be the Scarlet Spider because he deserves his own identity, both secret and costumed. Plus it'd be kinda poetic. When it denial about being his own person, he hates the name Scarlet Spider because it's just been tacked on by the press. But, after discovering himself, he'd come to love the title. But Chasm... Chasm is taking it the wrong direction. Ben shouldn't be a villain. He shouldn't be an anti-hero. He should be a hero. I want my paragon Scarlet Spider back. (Also, um, shout-out to all the identical twins screwed over by Marvel Editorial as well, because twins are literal IRL clones, meaning that one of them must clearly be a sub-human carbon copy that turns evil in outrage at being a copy. Right? Right? Ain't that what clones do?)

Ben honestly should have stayed on as the mainline Spider-Man while Peter retired with MJ. It was a perfect send-off.

It seems like he is gonna have a MAIN role in Across the Spiderverse so hopefully he gets Mainstream popularity finally. I never grew up with Ben but it seemed he was like 1 Half of Peter Parker the more Jovial side so I could never hate him

judging by the toy description, "an intense spider-man who looks super cool fighting crime," i'm afraid he might be a side character that's a play on how ridiculous 90s comics could get and they play him up for jokes i hope that's NOT the case, though i mean, we cant always trust what toys have to say about the movie

Ben is special, but sadly a lot of people don't view him special, only us Ben Reilly fans who cared about him ever since clone saga, who cared to get to know him as a person. They just view him as a clone, when he is so much more than that, a real hero. Btw, your dubs are great and do you like Spider-Man 2099? Ever thought voicing him?

Just make Ben Reilly Scarlet spider the hooded web head send him to Vegas or anywhere else and make him have his own adventures.

I realized why JMD's Ben Reilly: Spider-Man miniseries was so true to the character. He made him up in the first place. Well, not really. But JMD is credited in many of the books of the Clone Saga. Books that defined Ben as a character, such as the beautiful ASM 400. Basically, JMD was a big contribution to making Ben Reilly who Ben Reilly was when he died his first death. Practically making the character is the only thing that let him make a story faithful to that character. Which is both really interesting and an incredibly sad state.

What was so special to me about Ben was at the time of his birth he was Peter figuratively. He had every cherished memory, every feeling, everyone who Peter loved he did and he couldn’t help it. He didn’t ask to be born and that’s what was tragic. He could never feel the love from aunt may or the warm touch of Mary yet he still loved them. It was as if he was a bastard and despite the terrible clone saga he was set up to his own man. His story was set up to be that of a man trying to discover who he really is in all this. A man that started in tragedy and had to work up to find his own identity and happiness. That what we had at 1st but marvel now has a hard hateboner for him that he’s now a fan meme. Also you know your character has a good design when every video game has to bring it back

this just makes me sad, honestly if they wanna reinvent ben reilly, they should, like give him to someone who doesnt hold an ungodly amount of hate towards him

@@SynthVoice including me, it was my first introduction to ben's time as spider-man, and it was absolutely amazing, you know *exactly* what i'm talking about i knew stuff about ben reilly before but honestly it wasn't until a year or two ago when i actually started trying to learn more about him and get as invested in him as i am in peter and miles theres a lot of ben reilly comics to read through, i've already read lost years though if you have any recommendations, maybe you should make a video about where people should start when it comes to reading about the clone brothers

When I got into comics, Ben Reilly was the Sensational Spider-Man, Miguel O'Hara was the Spider-Man of 2099, and Phil Urich was the Green Goblin. I'd had my Dad tell me about Spider-Man, about Peter Parker, and watched the cartoons. But Ben and Miguel were *my* Spiders. And Phil was cool. As you might guess, I have not been especially happy with current Marvel.

I miss the 90s era Ben as well. "Beyond" wasn't a great arc and Dark Web was a joke. Hopefully there's light at the end of Ben's character arc tunnel

Your absolutely right... about all of this the kingdom hearts battle music is particularly fitting too lol. Marvel editorial past and present just sucks. Hopefully things change in thr future.

From someone who has literally no idea what is going on except a man dies and that sucks for a lot of people here so here is some comfort comfort

I was having a talk with a friend on how we would handle Ben in the comics. I like his idea Better then mine. He would of had Ben and Peter get together to hunt down someone whose been stalking Ben and Jeanie. Ben who has been having a low profile after the clone conspiracy [Beyond doesn't happen in this verison] and he and Peter have been having these "Brotherly Patrols" around the city. Ben and Jeanie are going to be Parents and so after talking it with Peter and MJ. Ben moves to California to be the "Spider-Man" of the west coast. Ben has original fun adventures, his twins are born, Kaine shows up for a time and after 25 issues was his outline plan it would end rather happily for Ben. My verison would have taken place after the Spider-Man Beyond storyline. Chasm would be very different and interesting. This version of Ben having no idea and being confuse, angry, scared, he's been stalking Peter who he thinks is a figment of something. Peter tries to talk him down and with the help of Everyone Peter knows he finds a cure for Ben. Ben says he needs a fresh start and we spin off Ben Reily into him being rebuilt from the ground up into the once jovial and frankly the better hero he deserves to be. He does go back to being Scarlet Spider for a time. before transitoning into A New Spider-Man.

I would write him back as the Scarlet Spider again, but with a little bit of Chasm's powers. Same design but more red and put a more "scary" sweatshirt on him? He comes back with a new view on life, then goes on the weird "Doom Patrol" type stories. Make him different and funny! Also, some type of non-clone personal life story too

Ok, there is no way Scarlet Spider would be killed from a couple of bullets. Heck Spider-Man got shot in the head and still survive. Also Spider-Man got shot several times and still defeat Green Goblin. So it doesn't make sense for Ben to just straight up and die from bullets. Plus doesn't have a spider sense that warn him of danger.

yup, but editorials seem to hate him that much that they're willing to screw with pre-established concepts, and retcon anytging and everything if it means killing off Ben.

I kid you not, Ben appeared in Marvel Zombies for a whole 2 PANELS and died automatically, what a waist.

I have a few confessions as a Spider-Man Fan… First, I loved Life Story. Now I wouldn’t say it’s perfect, but it still introduces some interesting takes on the lore. My next confession is that I never read the entire Clone Saga. However, I’d like to point out my reason being I was a toddler when this story was published so of course I didn’t read it. I did however read The Real Clone Saga, which I thought was pretty good. One I have to fully agree on is the fact that Ben is being nothing BUT character assassinated as of late and it needs to stop. If they wanted an evil clone so badly, then why not bring back Spidercide, but without those weird shape shifting powers, and make HIM into Chasm!

I was always interested in Ben reilly but never enough to care about him but after watching your videos I realised how sensational of a character he is and how he embodies spider man just as much or even more at times than Peter.

Tbh if I wrote for Ben I'd kill him off as well😂...BUT he goes out as a HERO after doing a BUNCH of worthwhile things and forever leaving an Impact on the Marvel Universe as what would be Spider-Man's TRUE Successor if he didn't pass on Imo it makes sense since Ben is essenitally the BLESSING aspect of Peter's character that was killed off as the writers were obsessed with making his life a living hell and completely a CURSE

I agree. Although reading Peter David's run was interesting but they just cut it off with that brutally bad ending. The ending of spidergeddon bothered me same with beyond. Reading the end of beyond really upset me. Then reading dark web. Man dark web really sucked. I think dark web might be the most awful comic event I've read to date.

Ben Reilly is the greatest Spider-Man, easily my favourite Marvel character. I haven’t bought a single Marvel book since they turned him into a villain. He just absolutely didn’t deserve it.

I feel like Ben being a clone doesn't really invalidate his experiences before being cloned, cuz his DNA is still of the same kid as parker. Every 7 years human bodies in all their cells are completely replaced. Literally made of completely different matter. This means that as long as Ben has mostly got the same genetic foundation as parker, he has the same claim to those memories and experiences. Artificial doesn't mean not real. As a trans person i experience similar imposter syndrome type stuff. Ben Riley doesn't deserve this shit

I completely agree boss, Ben Reilly is my favorite spider-man and he is just an absolute badass that goes through so much altogether. His many deaths have all broken me each and every time it's done. His Scarlett Spider suit will always be my favorite suit out of all other's, right behind would be Miles Morales T.R.A.C.K suit. I have read so many comics and when the new games came out I adored every last bit of the suits and gameplay. I wanted to say it somewhere that after Mr. Stan Lee died I vowed to complete both games on the highest difficulty and get every single trophy available. I have accomplished my mission and it broke my heart when I was done, i'll make sure to do the same on the third game that comes out. I am very proud of what I've done

How do you fix Ben Reilly? Make him good again, Peter and Kaine be there to do it, and then they open a portal to the Spider Verse and tell him it will either erase him from every universe or send him somewhere where he will live a peaceful life as will all the other Ben Reilly's, and we see him jump in and the portal closes and Peter and Kaine leave and we see Ben spinning and then it ends. A simple and peaceful end for all of the Ben Reilly's.

Man, I've stopped reading the new Amazing for a while now(Cause its getting too expensive for me) and I was excited to hear that later issues featured my favorite Spidey:Ben Reilly, but knowing that they are just butchering his character, COME ON. Gee I guess the Spidey and Bat families are more similair than I thought, they have the hot heads, the young heroes and the ones that get Fucked by writers in the form of Ben and Tim

Man Ben Reilly really needs someone at marvel who likes him, to do a good modern story about him. Seriously clone conspiracy was awful. then his 2017 series was hot garbage, seriously Kaine was a better scarlet spider in that series, Ben had so many 180s on his personality during that run even Deadpool and moon knight would say he’d need therapeutic help. I didn’t hate the beyond event but it’s ending just killed the event for me. Then Darkweb hooboy Darkweb, this is one of my most hated comic events in years seriously at the end it really feels like Ben didn’t really get punished for anything he did, I was hoping he’d get redeemed at the end but nope. Seriously I hope marvel realizes this whole “chasm” crap going on with him right now was a mistake and give him a good story cause he needs it

Do one on Peter Parker from every universe. Edit: JK some of it is way too traumatizing and he’s died hundreds of times.

If you ask me, Marvel should just kill off Ben and have him operate in an alternate universe where Peter has retired for the sake of his family and have ben take over as Spider-man permantly. This will in turn help both of them as peter will have more time on his plate to focus on his career which could also lead to Parker Industries or help him become a great scientist and help Ben as he will be the only Spider-man left. Peter could be a benifactor to Ben too. This could fix the One More Day story in this universe as Ben wouldn't have to sacrifice his marrige to save anyone. He would also be the Spider-man to help Miles by mentoring him. Similar to Ben reilly from Earth 91, he could be the Spider-man who succeded wherePeter failed. This story could fix both charecters as peter could finally have a family and Ben won't have to die all the time.

You know what is crazy. I was actually looking forward to the Beyond storyline when it came out because I thought we were gonna be getting Ben back as Spidey they way he was in the 90’s. They even gave him a Sensational Spider-Man reminiscent suit. But ultimately as he said was a waste of time. My favorite Spidey ruined yet again. As to why they can’t get good writers boggles my mind but at this point idc because I stopped reading Spidey comics as a whole they kinda all suck now. Everything after Superior was kinda ass in my opinion and they don’t wanna let Pete grow up and change just as they don’t want Ben to change so I think I am done. Up yours Marvel I’ll just go and write my own head cannon. Here’s hoping the new Ultimate Spider-Man series is good but I am not getting my hopes up in any way.
