Oh lord it was this, the launch of the new Venom comics after Planet of the Symbiotes and how X-Men convoluted got which turned me off from these comics. I only read Fantastic Four stuff from Marvel before I stopped collecting in total back in '97.

The clone saga is one of my favorite Spiderman reads but you're absolutely right when you say it is a mess. It had so much potential a bunch of Peter Parker's running around acting as if they were his brothers the idea itself is amazing and it was executed pretty well in The Amazing Spider-Man comics not so much in the extended comics

AGREED! THANK YOU! finally! i both loved and loathed the clone saga. granted, i was born in '81 so i was a kid. When certain writers tackled the character, Ben Reilly was the absolute greatest....Kaine TOO! there was this dichotomy between the two. both clones of Peter, but Kaine was a failure and Ben wound up becoming Jackal's golden boy favorite son. The best was the series showing Ben's years on the road and how he didn't know who was the real Peter, (Kaine thought it was Ben) but then he did what he felt the right thing was, tried to make some kind of life for himself and; Kaine was all like "yeah......NOPE! "wanted for a fake murder that i framed you for, you don't GET a life". It was Kaine's pettiness that was the motivator. Like seriously, you have all of Peter's memories

I loved Ben Reilly, he was MY Spider-Man, as I first started reading comics in the early 90's. Literally, the first complete Spider-Man story I ever read was the Power and Responsibility story arc. I'm absolutely currently buying and reading the new "Ben Reilly: The Scarlet Spider" comic; it's written by Peter David, so you know it's good.

hm i read the 3 issues of that series and it looks like this ben riely is still nuts and and insane but i am hoping Peter david could undo the damaged caused to ben thanks to slott butchering of this character but i don't think that's going to happen i get a feeling that this new scarlet spider series is not going to last its going to get cancelled really really soon but who knows hopefully i am wrong and this series does get better near the very end but again who knows i guess we will have to wait and see what happens.

When they made Mac Gargan Venom back in the days I was literally screaming "NO, bring back Kaine and give the symbiote to him so he can survive and keep being this shattered reflection of Spider-Man," it would've made so much more sense to me.

that's the thing.... it's a shame, because both Ben Reilly and Kaine parker are some of the most interesting marvel characters of the hole spiderman mythos, kaine wasn't until 2011, when he came back and got a solo tittle in 2012, (which is my absolute favorite run of all the comics i read besides the mark waid daredevil)... Ben as the scarlet spider was so fresh, a symbol of what spidey was that parker was not anymore, and kaine as the scarlet spider was so fresh also because he was a symbol of what parker would have become if he was more brutal yet kept his core and morals plus with a deep self-hatred and desire for redemption.

I mean clones in comics have sometimes been more interesting than the original character I mean Ben Reilly and Kaine Parker were two interesting characters also with Wolverine when X 23 was created and replaced Wolverine as the new Wolverine

I loved the Ben Riley vs Venom issue and also how they has him fighting sentinels in the onslaught story line along side Cable

I love Ben Reilly!!!! He need his own Tv show!

The Sensational Spider Man basically following all of his adventures as that times current Spider but they don’t do that until Season 2 but for the Season 1 they do Scarlet Spider

Man I loved the artwork of the 90s. If feels kind of weird watching this one because I have a lot of the comics from that clone saga, and have some of the issues you're featuring.

I mean the artwork of the 90’s was pretty cool if they bring back that style of artwork they should bring it back for grittier more dark stories like Spawn,Batman,Venom,Marvel Zombies,and The Batman Who Laughs type of stories

Here's the deal, basically, the fact remains that, this is the best KZread channel ever written, and so on and so forth.

I LOVED the clone saga, one of my favorite reads as a kid.

I always liked the hoodie because it was so 1990’s but his Sensational Spider Man costume was always the coolest

I hate that they dug ben reilly up from his grave to assassinate his character by making him the jackal. Such a stupid twist that literally everybody saw coming. I remember being legit surprised when it was revealed kaine was the first clone

All of the clone saga could have worked if the marketing team didn't screw up the original plan for this story

the original plan was going to have peter parker and mary jane have there daughter alive and kicking and ben riely to be the new spider-man and in my opinion i actually would have actually loved this plan because it has peter and MJ have there happy ending and ben gets to live.

This story brought me into the comic books from the 90's cartoon...god i loved this saga! I came after Ben turned Spider-Man, couldn't get enough of it, and then back tracked. I knew he would be revealed as the clone from the first day i began reading and god i loved every moment of it!

I love this story!!! The double sided issues you had to turn upside down, the Jackyl. this story honestly cemented Spider-Man in my mind as my favorite hero. I'm probably thinking of the second time they told this story but I loved it. I believe the story I'm thinking of was called "Power and Responsibility" I remember Ben Riley punching out a window in a store front and snagging the blue hoodie and ripping the sleeves off to complete the look of his suit lol

This was my childhood. Thanks Rob for giving it back to me.

The scarlet spider costume was the most 90s thing ever, but still, ben reilly and his supporting characters was interesting.

I remember seeing a clone saga action figure pack at BJs back in 98. Wish I could have picked up all these action figures from the 90s and just have them on ice.

This is a much needed explanation. I'm following the Ben: Reilly: Scarlet Spider series and I had started, but got quickly bored with, the Scarlet Spider series before that (with a physically and mentally healed Kain). The BR:SS has gotten interesting. It starts with BR dealing with his mental split where he is haunted by the old him (in his old costume) and his time as the Jackal. There's a weird Deadpool thing happening only instead of disembodied thought bubbles, there's actual images of himself that follow him. He wants to mirror his life with Peter Parker and involuntarily adopts an old lady who he refers to as Aunt June (to stand in for PP's Aunt May). Most recently, Kain, in his Scarlet Spider costume (which is a recoloring of Spider-man's Big Show (I think it was called) suit) shows up. What's interesting about that is Kain, in his series, wanted to do the memory of Ben Reilly proud, so he was always trying to compare himself to Ben (who was thought dead at the time). It will be interesting to see the interactions of them as they sort the mess out and hopefully the series will tie up with BR being mentally and physically healed. If you could, I'd love to hear some explanations on the events that lead up to the current series. I'm not sure if this Ben Reilly is a clone of the original or not. In fact, I'm not sure of a lot of things. So yeah, that's my recommendation.

Clone saga was ok. My favorite spider-man story ark ever is maximum carnage. Doppelgänger is so underrated.

Ben Reilly is my favorite Spiderman. I think one of the issues with the Spiderman film franchises is that they keep recycling the same origin story. The franchise has to move forward not just recycle the same plot. The Spider-Verse is something that hasn't been seen on the silver screen. Are you listening Sony? Give us a standalone Scarlet Spider film.
