An easy way of picking up all of the dust and small debris in cracks is to use an automotive cleaning putty($7ish or less). Good on the shellac finish as well as the brass. Just a tip.

3M (auto) paint clay, if it’s too pricey for one project, then there are alternative brands ( less refined but fine ). Medium grade does it.

We had a barometer, hygrometer, and thermometer in our home when I was growing up. It was the hygrometer that intrigued me the most.

If I'm not mistaken, you are supposed to cover the whole area with that glass cleaning foam thing and let it sit a few seconds. It is supposed to raise any dust and residue up off the glass surface so you wouldn't end up accidentally scratching glass while wiping it clean.

I just bought one of these nearly identical to this one. I put it in my shed so can know the humidity levels while melting silver and gold. Not safe in high humidity to do.

I would have cleaned the surface BEFORE I took it apart, especially for integrated circuitry. Those covered areas would likely have faired better without the extra dust.

My grandfather was an orphan but he was the hardest working man I ever knew he believed if it was day light and not a meal time you should be working Monday through Saturday he worked every minute from get to go the 7 o'clock news was quiting time I can remember being thankful for dinner at 6 we would wash go eat after sometimes we wouldn't do anything except bath then he watched the news on a black and white TV sometimes he would just listen if the antenna didn't work good we had 3 channels sometimes other times only 2 and he wouldn't watch that damn Democrat channels news he was a hard core Republican and I dont know any one that had more reason to switch
