I'm so glad I found you! Learned more from you in five minutes than in a week of in person class
I’m still in the two wine gradiantwash but I *had* to comment! I’ve watched SOOOO MANY TUTORIALS for beginners!! I’ve watched at least 20 different people try to teach this exact same concept but this is the first time anyone explained to dry the brush, and why. THANK YOU SO MUCH!! These are the kind of instructions a that neurodivergent folx need! We like more details and explanations for the “why”. We have to understand to make it work for us. I truly appreciate you!🎉🎉❤❤😊 Edit: the blending…OMG!!! The way yo did the flower, the explanation for that last shadow blew my mind. It finally made sense. Thank you! I’m in tears bc I’m 39 and never thought I could. I’ve been more confident recently, but still feeling discouraged. This explanation just made such. Huge difference and I can’t wait to try it out tomorrow! 🥲🥰🥰

Your comments gives me hope and the motivation to try again, so thank you so much! I just turned 39 too, and also have the need to understand how something works before I can do it, so glad I'm not alone in this 😊 Saved this video and will give it ago! 💪
Great tutorial Emma! My watercolor journey started in november 2021. I learned so much from you, you were my very first teacher I found on youtube! But this is really what I needed to know right from the start... also the names of the techniques. Every teacher talks about blending, and gradients and lifting and so on. But if you don´t know what it stands for, you just do something... with this video you will help a lot of beginning watercolorartists! ❤❤❤

A few days ago I purchased your watercolor book and expect it to arrive on Feb.10. Today I joined your Patron channel! You are a wonderful teacher. Thank you for going over these valuable techniques! So helpful!!!
Thank you so much for doing this tutorial. I am new at water coloring and feel sooooooo lucky to have found you on here.
i am starting to get back in to watercolours after removing from a coma and i forgot my skills these are easy videos to follow along with to regain my skill set i look forward to developing my skills again
Ty
My mother is making us all do a watercolor project all separately & we all show up with whatever we did. I'm determined to NOT come in last place this year. So, TY FOR THE HELP!!! I'm in my 50's so it's been since elementary school since i saw a paint brush
I am a beginner. I’ve watched a number of other artist’s videos but I find your’s really helpful. You explain how to correct basic beginner errors easily. Thank you!
I dabbled with watercolor about four years ago. Now at age of 70 I really, really want to learn and grow in skill set. I watched the Christmas tutorials of yours and the designs turned out pleasingly surprised. Attached to Christmas gifts of my sister and family. They were impressed! LOL. But of course they are a tad biased. Thank you, Emma, for reaching out to all the beginners. ❤ I subscribed to your Craftamo plan. My very first subscription box is on its way!!!
I have been painting with watercolors for awhile now but continue to struggle with blending. Your explanation was wonderful...I think I finally got it. Sounds like the key is to be gentle when blending out a color. I have always struggled with lifting the color instead of blending...now I got it...mostly dry brush with a soft touch!!! Thanks again Emma.
Good morning. I’m a senior and started my watercolor painting a couple of years ago but haven’t been painting in quite some time. I subscribed to your painting boxes and watching your videos as a beginner again since I really hadn’t moved along in experience. I look forward now to learning with your videos and my new supplies. Excited! Thank you ❤
Emma, I’ve been playing at watercolor for two years now and this ONE video helped me tremendously with getting water control improvement! All the tips you gave here along with fun demonstration has helped me hugely to really understand the way water and pigment behave! Thank you so much!

I completely agree! 🙏🏼
Your such a great teacher... im definitely going to try those out.
This may be the best blending and gradient video I have ever seen. Awesome!
FINALLY, a video with the information I need. Thank you so much.
Been painting for a while and started off with watching you but have never had these techniques properly explained. I struggle putting shadows on things I would love to see you apply these techniques in a painting explaining what you’re doing as you go. Thankyou ❤
Great lesson that was enhanced by your demonstrations. Thank you for going slowly while you are explaining the techniques. Looking forward to the next lesson.
Blending tips very helpful! I find that to be the most difficult part of painting, especially when I’m doing it in dry. I think the “gentle” part is what I need to work on 😂

Yes that 'gentle' part....to me a missing link revealed! LOL
Thank you so much for sharing this with us. I’am a beginner and am eager to learn. I love watching you paint, I think your work is absolutely beautiful.❤
Thank you ! I’m a very beginner so this was fascinating.
Thank you for these demonstrations. I am just starting out and after practicing these techniques, I’m proud of what I pulled off following your advent tutorials without having these beginner tips!
very informative regarding using less or more water....could see the effects clearly !
Teacher, teacher, teacher, you are the best! I’m always looking for ways to practice what I think I learned! Repeat and repeat again, helps me! Thanks for being a gentle teacher! Karen Dirmish , learner
Thank you Emma for these wonderful videos for all of us that are beginning or have been painting for a couple of years. I needed these lessons!!! Huge, Huge thank you!!!!!
Thanks Emma! I did the Christmas advent with you and ran into the problems you are describing. Some of it I realized part way through was due to cheaper watercolor paper but my water control was all over the place too.
Thank you so much for your generosity in sharing this
Great tutorial!! Thank you Emma! (Jill)
Thank you, definitely getting frustrated with the cheap paper. Awesome tips.
Thank you ! You are such a great teacher and you make it look fun to do even for beginners like me ! Happy painting !
Thank you for this great video and putting so much effort into creating such valuable content all artists can benefit from. Wishing you a wonderful day!
Thanks Emma! Well done!😍
I Really liked your video. Your examples are great. I do wish you had left one of the leaves to dry naturally with just the bloom for a comparison though without blending so much. Thanks
Thanks for the video, enjoy watching and learning new techniques from you❤
Fantastic video. I am very new at watercoloring and in this FIRST "lesson" I was able to learn quite a bit. Thanks so much! I will continue to follow you to learn more 🩷
This is great. I've been sidetracked from practicing watercolor to doing various jobs around the house. So I need to go back to basics and tap into tutorials specifically for beginners but I just did not know where to start and then you were in my feed with these marvelous lessons for beginners which you will be teaching. This lesson was great to which I will save it to a file entitled Beginner Lessons. As usual, you explain everything so wonderfully as well as hitting on important info where other lessons from various teachers neglect to explain! Thank you so much. You are a great teacher!
This is a great tutorial! I'll be watching any others you have also.
I just can’t get started painting. I have lots of supplies and it was fun collecting them. I don’t know why I can’t get started although I have tried to do a few things but…. This video series is great for the rank beginner and super helpful.
I have painted a few years and settled into how I like to paint which is line and wash; I'm going to teach a brief intro to watercolor and find I am struggling with these exact things, so now I will try again, and believe I will get it! thank you!!!
Yes! Thank you soooo much!
❤I love how u explain things. I am a beginner.
I love your videos. Can you teach me how to paint veins in the leaves? Thank you so much for teaching how to blend. I've learned so much from your 1st 3 videos! Thank you so much!
I found this really helpful. I’m not new to watercolor but I still consider myself a beginner because I continue to make the mistakes you’ve mentioned. I look forward to your next two videos.
Emma, I have been following your channel for years and have learned so much from you. Absolutely love your teaching style. I just want to say one thing, when recommending colors, can you suggest an alternative of cadmiums and cobalts. Its just because some people (even beginners) would prefer using non-toxic colors
Great teaching, thanks 😁👍
thank you for doing these videos! Very helpful!
Emma, the first video I watched of yours was early in the "heights of the pandemic" and it was a "Can I duplicate Bob Ross?" video, and I thought "I LIKE THIS GAL!!" 😂 I pop in every so often to check out your videos and it is really cool to see how you have evolved in your painting, and YT presence, so that you've moved on up to ceramic palettes and fancy paints. 😊 Thank you for all the videos and technique videos. I seem to be a perpetual beginner in that in attempting to swatch out my fancy dot card last night (A Gallo 😍), I apparently forgot how to do a proper gradient. 🙄Lo, your video appeared this morning and now I'll have to try again. It's also clear that my first (and last) cheapish watercolour book for swatches needs to be shelved once I finish it because it definitely is not as responsive, and I need to just use my Hahnemuhle journals rather than admiring it on the shelf. Happy 2024 to many, more good days of painting and other things!
This is so awesome! I came across my art supplies from years ago and now I have the time to learn how to paint and draw. This is a perfect video series.
i am not a beginner but love your videos ,i watched your video with the aregylle kitty not sur how to spell that word ,i drew my own and it did not turn out but i enjoyed it so much, wow your channel has grown alot good for you ,i hope all your dreams come true, thank you
I learned so much. Thank you
This to me was a great useful class , thx! One issue I have is that I have strokes while i bring it down
Thank you Emma for these beginner friendly videos. Can’t wait for your new brushes to come out so excited 🎉
Excellent Tutorial! I started trying to teach myself watercolour in November 2023. I have been struggling with blending and your teaching have really made blending much more simplified. Can’t wait to paint and try them. Thanks for sharing your teaching skills
Great tutorial ‼️👏🖼🎨🖌️. I like how you showed the technique then incorporated it into an actual item (leaf, flower pedal). Thx for sharing ‼️‼️‼️‼️‼️
Merci beaucoup !! Watching you from France 😊 I've been searching lessons for beginners explaining the bases and it is very difficult to find . I love how you explain. It is clear and understundable for a beginner. Thank you a lot for your help in discovering this wonderful but not so simple painting 😊
Thank you! That was a fabulous first lesson. I am looking forward to the rest of the series!
Thank you for your tutorials! I started watercolor in 2020 and found your drills videos. I still love doing them now!
Thank you for the great video .
thank you, this is perfect!
Thank you so much for this lesson, I needed those extra steps of when to wash and dry the brush. This is perfect. I can't wait for the next one.
thank you for this tutorial. I have only been doing watercolor since November and this was very helpful. I want to do every one of videos but there is only so much time in the day. Thanks for helping us newbies.
Great video and explanation, thank you!

Great tutorial, Emma!
Thanks! ❤
Really helpful, ty 😊
Emma, thank you for this lesson. Have been painting for a while, but it is always good to go back to basics and practice. I always get a good tip or a reminder of some thing I should know when I watch you.
Thank you, Emma!! I'm a beginner and learn so much from you.
I bought your brushes last year... now I'll actually use them.. Great tip . Thank you❤
Thanks, Emma! So very helpful. I've been painting for some time but definitely need blending refresher. Also I know you've mentioned this before, but I'd love to know again where you got the beautiful ceramic paint palette
Thank you Emma you are doing such a great work my watercolor journey started with the first video I watched in your channel you made me love watercolors . Soooooo grateful ❤
Thanks so much Emma! This is very helpful and I know I will watch it more than once! ❤

So helpful. Can't wait for your next video!!! 💓
Thanks so much Emma. This was a great video. I really appreciate all your tips and tutorials they are so helpful to a newbie like me. 😊
Such a great explanation for beginners. I just started before Xmas. I spent last week doing overlapping circles and blending colours in them . Then I did patterns in them. Put flowers in them, made birds out of them. You’ve just explained what I have been trying to do. I live in Australia and have ordered your 12 month subscription boxes. The first one has arrived in the country and I can’t wait till it’s delivered, only a few days now hopefully. You are such a great and patient teacher, I’m really looking forward to using your brushes too, they look amazing. Thanks for this video and I’m looking forward to the next one. 💕💕💕
Wow....thank you for sharing your talent....still learning from you and looking forward to your next tutorial!!!

Thank you so much for this video Emma!!! I've learned a lot from you.
I will try❤❤❤❤
Excellent. Sending this on to my painting buddy❤️
Great review. Thank you ❤
Awesome tutorial💞
Love your videos. Thank you so much for sharing your talent. ❤️
Thank you ⚾️
amazing,❤😍👍
Love it.
Dziękuję Emma ! ❤😊
I sure appreciate your style of teaching. Problem: My brush tip is making darker lines” as I sweep back and forth, so it’s a bit striped. Can you tell me what I’m doing wrong?
Hi Emma, I always enjoy your videos. One maybe simple thing is difficult for me: how do I make a larger amount of one watercolor puddle on my palette. So that I have it standing by if I want to paint a bigger area. Gr Doreen
Thank you so much for this tutorial. I am currently waiting on you Craftmo kit to arrive, it will be my very first attempt at watercolor. I do have a technical question. Does the quality of the water make a difference? My water is extremely hard and is softened with a salt water conditioner. Would using my tap water change the colors and pigments? Should I use distilled water for perfect pigment color?
I am just starting watercolor so this is great timing for me. Your teaching method is great. I love your cermaic palette and haven't seen one like that before. Do you know where I could get one like that or was that a bespoke one?
