This reminds me of the birches in Maine. ❤❤❤ this painting and your technique. I can’t wait to try on my next painting and following your tutorial. Thank you so much for doing this because I can’t speak others but just for myself. I’m disabled and am on a very limited fixed income. I can’t afford art lessons and I love watercolor. I’m not very good at this time. There is a lot of room to improve and learn. You and artist like you who care enough to share your talent, your passion, your skill, your techniques, tips and tricks really help people like me. Thank you so much.❤❤❤❤❤

Very nice; I like the sharp stick work! But please, everyone: I know birches are popular (have painted them myself) but do keep in mid that the black patches (usually branch scars) don't just occur on the edges of the trunk, but all over it!

I think you are very talented. I’m just getting back into painting after around thirty years and I must say I’ve lost a lot of my abilities now that I’m older with arthritis. Don’t have a very steady hand anymore either. I however am determined to get it back.

I am also just getting back into painting later in life- this is great!
I really like your technique on the birch trees by leaving them white and adding the dark areas. One other lesson that I watched she painted them dark and then added the white. Yours looks much more realistic.
Thank you Karen..really love the use of alternative tools..I personally produce a better painting with cards twigs etc great to watch theMaster at work

Good stuff 😊 The one thing I tell my students, that can improve their work, because it will give them more time is better paper. Buying better paper is not a false economy and you can use the back as well. I recommend 300gsm Cold Pressed watercolour paper 100% cotton A4 or bigger.
Nice job, good video. Thanks! Personal thing, I just don't like taping my paper i like going to the edge.

I don’t stretch my paper. I use 300 g watercolour paper and I usually use watercolour blocks. Which helps with warping etc…. Hope this was helpful

This is an excellent tutorial for an absolute beginner. Simple shapes, no need for a pencil sketch. I followed along, and it's the first complete painting that I've done (twice). I'm having trouble retaining my lights, probably exacerbated by working on A5 (the only good quality paper I have), but both paintings got a "that's amazing!" from my 14-year-old son. And that's just about everything, isn't it? I am more of a craftsperson, more wood, leather, and metal. But I grew up on gorgeous watercolor illustrations that remain some of my favorite artworks ever. So I've finally decided to give it a go.
